The Prez Sez: I hope everyone is having a great ski season. I was fortunate enough to be able to go on the club s Lake Tahoe trip and let me tell you, we had a blast! Devera covered all of the bases in organizing the trip and she made sure everything was run as smoothly as possible. This trip was the perfect example of why traveling with our club is such a good idea. All you need to do is make a couple payments and you get to travel with a great group of friends to a fabulous destination. I have always looked forward to my next LSC trip and I can t wait to do it again! Even though we still have several trips to go out yet this year, our trip committee will soon begin to meet to plan the trips for next year. The trip committee will review each and every trip survey form that is turned in and based upon the most requested destinations, we will request bids from tour operators. Once we have destinations, prices, and dates, we can finally pick where we will be skiing next year. We are always looking for LSC members to be involved with the trip committee. The only qualifications you really need to have are the desire to go on a ski trip and some opinions on what makes a trip good for you. If you have those two things, you are perfect for this committee. See Jon Doman or myself and we will make sure to consider you for openings on the trip committee. In addition to the trip committee members, we are always looking for leaders to run our ski trips. If you think you would enjoy organizing and running one of our trips, but you aren t sure what all is involved, we would be happy to go through the process with you. We can even have you assist another trip leader so you can get a feel for what is involved before taking the reins of your own trip. For 72 years, volunteers, like our Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and committee members, and trip leaders have been critical to the existence of our club. If you have some time, even if it s just a little, please consider getting involved in our club. The friendships you foster and experiences you live will stay with you forever. I will see you on the slopes! LSC/Ski Tunes Swap & Sale Recap Over the past 10 years the Lancaster Ski Club has teamed up with Ski Tunes Ski & Board Shop to support the annual Ski/Board Swap & Sale. It is always held on the third weekend of October. Both LSC members and the Ski Tunes Rail Riders participate helping hundreds of customers in selecting the proper new and used gear for the skiing and boarding season. It's a weekend that starts everyone thinking about the upcoming winter season. It's a meeting time and place where all the snow riders gather to sell and purchase equipment, but just as important, to reminisce about last year's winter experiences. A portion of the proceeds is always donated to local charities. Over $5,000 has been distributed over the past 10 years. The following are recipients of the donations from the LSC/Ski Tunes 2016 & 2017 swaps. 2016 Swap & Sale (10/15/16 10/16/16): $300 donation was made to the Hempfield Rec Center for less fortunate youths to take part in the rec center's activities. 2017 Swap & Sale (10/21/17 10/22/17): $300 was donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, and $200 to the "Earn A Bike" Program at the Common Wheel in Lancaster PA. Thanks go out to all Lancaster Ski Club members and the Ski Tunes Rail Riders for donating their time and effort for this worthwhile project. Mark your calendar for 2018's Swap & Sale on October 20 & 21, 2018. We can always use your GOOD used equipment and we will not turn down your help on the days of the sale!
