East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office USPCA REGION 10 Field Trails May 2012 Inside this issue: Congrats 2 Deputies of the Month 3 Around EBRSO 4 Birthdays 5 Upcoming Events 6 On April 9 The EBRSO K-9 Division attended the USPCA Region 10 field trails and certification at the LSU campus. This event was hosted by LSU PD and BRPD. During these dates K-9 teams competed for top score and certification in Narcotics and Patrol K-9. There were a total of 24 narcotic detection teams and a total of 38 patrol teams in attendance. These teams included agencies from USPCA Region 10 area, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. The narcotics detection competition consisted of detector teams conducting searches both indoor and outdoor, for the odor of narcotics (Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin, and Meth). The indoor search consisted of the teams searching three rooms locating narcotics with alerts in two of these rooms. The outdoor vehicle search consisted of 5 vehicles with narcotics placed on two of these vehicles. Handlers were judged on their search pattern, handling of their K-9, and alerts given by K-9 upon locating the hidden narcotics. This exercise has to be completed in a set amount of time. Cpl. Shannon Graham with K-9 Mylo finished in 3rd place in the vehicle search, 1st place in indoor search and 2nd place over all detector team. Cpl. Jesse Hale with K-9 Jumma finished in 1st place in vehicle search, 3rd place in indoor search and 1st place over all detector team. Great job guys!!!!
Page 2 EBRSO Flowers On The Lake The East Baton Rouge Sheriff s Office hosted its 2nd annual Flowers on the Lake event in recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week. During this ceremony victims and those affected by crime place flowers on the lake in remembrance and recognition of victims of crime. Criminal Justice leadership which participated include EBR Sheriff Sid Gautreaux, EBR District Attorney Hillar Moore, Constable Reginald Brown, BR City Police Chief Dewayne White and U.S. Attorney Don Cazayoux.

Abigail weighed CARTA 18 Supervisor Of The Quarter CARTA 18 held its graduation on April 5 th at the Healing Place Church on Highland Road. Guest speaker included Sheriff Willie Graves and Sheriff Sid Gautreaux 51 students graduate from CARTA, 22 of them are EBRSO Deputies. Great Job Guys Cpl.
