BIRDS OF A FEATHER: The Orioles have had 22 All-Stars over the last seven seasons (since 2012)...According to STATS, LLC., the 22 Baltimore All-Stars since 2012 are tied for second-most in the American League and are tied for fifth in the majors...the St. Louis Cardinals lead the majors with 28 All-Stars since 2012...The Orioles are one of 10 Major League teams with at least 20 All-Stars over the last seven seasons. THE FUTURE IS NOW: LHP Alex Wells and 3B Ryan Mountcastle were selected to participate in the 2018 Sirius/XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday in Washington, DC...Wells, a native of Newcastle, Australia, represented the O s as a member of the World Roster, while Mountcastle competed as a member of the U.S. Roster Wells entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning and retired each of the two batters he faced, including a strikeout of St. Louis s fifth-best prospect Andrew Knizner...Mountcastle went 0-for-2 after entering the game as a pinch-hitter for the designated hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning...wells signed with the Orioles as a non-drafted free agent in August of 2015, and is currently with Class A-Advanced Frederick He was named the Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017, and entered the season ranked as the No. 13 prospect in the Orioles organization by Baseball America Mountcastle was selected by the Orioles with the No. 36 overall pick of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, and has spent the season with Double-A Bowie He entered 2018 as the second-best Orioles prospect by Baseball America, and ranked No. 71 on the publication s Top 100 Prospects List. MAKING HIS MARK: OF/DH Mark Trumbo homered in Game 1 of the doubleheader on July 9, his 12 th of the season...it was his ninth homer since June 17 (28 games), which is tied for second-most in the AL during that span and is tied for fifth-most in the majors...trumbo led the majors with 47 home runs in 2016...He made his season debut on May 1 at Los Angeles-AL after beginning the season on the DL with a right quad strain...trumbo is also closing in on 1,000 career hits, currently sitting at 986, he has collected 347 hits as an Oriole. SCHOOP-ING IT OUT: 2B Jonathan Schoop is hitting.368 (21-for-57) in 15 games this July...He is a career.283 hitter in the month of July, his second-highest monthly average for his career (August,.287)...Last Tuesday night, Schoop delivered his third career walk-off hit with an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning...the walk-off winner was his first since September 1, 2017 vs. Toronto. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: RHP Alex Cobb tossed the Orioles 42 nd Quality Start of the season on Saturday...The O s 42 Quality Starts this season are tied for sixth in the AL and are tied for 11 th in the majors...rhp Dylan Bundy and RHP Kevin Gausman are tied for 21 st in the AL with 10 Quality Starts each...orioles starters have received 208 runs of support this season, which is the fewest in the majors...overall, O s pitchers have received 345 runs of support this season, which is second-fewest in the majors and the AL (Kansas City, 337). ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER: Saturday night s 1-0 Orioles win was just the 26 th 1-0 game in the history of Oriole Park at Camden Yards...The Orioles are 14-12 in 1-0 contests at home since the ballpark opened in 1992...The 1-0 victory was the second such win of the season for the O s...the Orioles also won 1-0 on June 6 against the Mets at Citi Field. THE OLD COLLEGE TRY: Arkansas and Oregon State faced off in finals of the College World Series, with Oregon State winning the bestof-three series to win the National Championship...Oregon State SS Cadyn Grenier was selected by the O s on Day 1 of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft (No. 37 overall)...grenier went 4-for-11 with two RBI in the finals, including the game-tying hit in the top of the ninth with two outs in Game 2...O s third-rounder RHP Blaine Knight earned the win for Arkansas in Game 1 after allowing one run over 6.0 innings while fanning six. BROTHERS GOTTA HUG: According to STATS, LLC., on June 19, C Caleb Joseph and INF Corban Joseph became the first set of brothers as teammates since Melvin Upton, Jr. and Justin Upton appeared on the roster together for the 2015 San Diego Padres...Cal Ripken, Jr. and Billy Ripken are the only other set of brothers as teammates in Orioles history (since 1954)...Brothers Dick Brown and Larry Brown also played for the Orioles, but did not appear on the O s roster at the same time. MARYLAND, MY MARYLAND: RHP Ryan Meisinger made his Major League debut on June 29 against the Los Angeles Angels by entering the game in the sixth inning and retiring the first batter he faced, Justin Upton, on a flyout...meisinger, born in Prince Frederick, MD, became the 24 th Maryland-born player to appear in a game for the Orioles...He is the first since 2015 when C Steve Clevenger (Baltimore) and RHP Steve Johnson (Baltimore) appeared in games for the O s. DEBUT TIMES TWO: On June 29, LHP Paul Fry also made his Major League debut...fry entered in the eighth inning and struck out the first batter he faced, Kole Calhoun...Fry also fanned the following batter, Mike Trout...According to STATS, LLC., it marked the fifth time in Orioles history (since 1954) that two O s pitchers made their Major League debut in the same game...the last time two O s pitchers debuted in the same was earlier this season, when RHP Pedro Araujo and LHP Nestor Cortes, Jr. appeared on March 31 vs. Minnesota.
