CENTRAL KANSAS GUN CLUB OF RENO COUNTY, INC. PO Box 584, Hutchinson, Kansas 67501-0584 February, 2018 Newsletter Quotation of the month: Twenty-five states allow anyone to buy a gun, strap it on, and walk down the street with no permit of any kind. Some say its crazy. However, four out of five U.S. murders are committed in the other half of the country. So who s crazy? Monthly Meeting: will be held at the clubhouse Monday, March 12 at 6:30 pm. Come on out and see what s going on with your club. Membership Closed: Because we have reached the limit of 400 members set by the board some time ago, membership applications will no longer be accepted until such time as the board determines. Renewal Upcoming: because renewal forms will be coming out next month anyone still owing work hours are on notice to get them done soon. Recent new members (November & December, 2017) are extended through 2018. Newsletter: Several times in the past the Board, especially the Secretary and the newsletter editor, have asked that those of us who have a computer but receive their newsletter via snail-mail to switch over to the e-mail version. Rising printing and postal costs are becoming a real issue. The club spent more than $1,300 in such costs in 2017. Therefore the board has voted to require those with a computer (as indicated by your e-mail address on your club application) but currently receiving the newsletter by snail-mail, to switch over to e-mail. Those members should e-mail Secretary Jason Korb at secretary@centralkansasgunclub.com to add you to the e-mail list. Those few who truly have no computer will still get the newsletter by snail-mail but you must advise newsletter editor Jerry Maxfield that this is the case. He can be reached at (620) 663-8666 (home) 620) 899-1053 (cell) or by mail at 3 Wheatland Drive, Hutchinson, 67502. This new procedure will take effect with the May newsletter. We do this reluctantly, but past gentle prodding has produced no results. We re spending too much money unnecessarily. To ensure your continued newsletter delivery, please comply with the above. Anyone who has missed a snail-mail or e-mail newsletter, or knows of anyone who has,

are urged to contact Secretary Korb at (620) 200-7192 or e-mail him at the above e-mail address in case of e-mail or newsletter editor Maxfield at the above contact information in case of snail-mail. With renewal coming up this becomes critical in making sure nobody is overlooked. Also, the newsletter will now be posted to the website and archived. Steel Targets Still For Sale: Dennis Chambers says the old Cowboy Action targets will remain on sale through March to anyone who wants them. Get with Dennis to make a good deal. These are the targets behind the fence in the Cowboy Action area. Dennis s e-mail is casttackle@cox.net. Work Day: Executive Officer Dennis Chambers has set Saturday, March 10 for our next work day from 8 am to noon. If the weather is too cold we will work in the clubhouse. Several work days are planned for the year. We re asking everyone who can make it to come out and help with club maintenance. We all enjoy the club and it s only fair that those of us who can make it should come out and do our bit to keep the facility up. Hunter Education: Frank Triffet and Terry Dean will be conducting another hunter education course on March 3 and April 14 from 8 am to 5 pm. For information contact Frank at (620) 665-7851 or Terry at (620) 966-5052. Our club is one of the few in the state of Kansas that maintains an on-going hunter education program. This is another way in which CKGC serves the public through our activities, which is a part of our mission statement. Kudos to Frank and Terry. 4-H Youth Program: For information contact Bartholomew at (620) 200-8253 or raybart53@gmail.com. You may also contact Cindy Colle, Reno County 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator, at collec83@gmail.com. The youth have begun their spring shooting program 3-Gun Program: CKGC hosts 3 gun matches the 3 rd Sunday of the month. Set up starts at 8 AM, registration at 9 AM, and firing starts at 10 AM. The matches generally end around 3 PM. All shooters are expected to help during the match, pasting targets, resetting steel, policing brass and tear down after the match. Your early appearance to help with set up will be appreciated. Match fee is $15 per shooter. General rules may be found on the CKGC website. Call Manuel M-C Camacho for more information at (316) 284-1357 or manuel@mcsportingarms.com. Manuel has work available if you need hours.

Nickerson High School Trap Team: Travis Oden advises the team will begin shooting March 18 through June. They will shoot Tuesday and Thursday at 6 pm and regular shotgun Sundays at 4 pm. In addition, the NHS team will host their 3 rd Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet February 24 in cooperation with the National Wild Turkey Federation. See details on the flyer on page 7. Action Pistol Program: March 11. 1.) Falling Plate Event. 2.) Practical Event. 3.) Barricade Event. 4.) Moving Target Event For information call Greg Dick at: (620) 931-7492 or (620) 662-8141. Notice: Executive Officer Dennis Chambers advises the Action Pistol lanes will be closed beginning March 19 and continuing for a couple of weeks in order to do some earthwork and concrete work. Shotgun Program: Shooting Trap and Skeet on the first, third and fifth Sunday from 1 pm. until done. Repairs on the PAT trap are still pending, but should be complete by the time the NHS team begins to shoot. Any questions contact Mel Ralston at (620) 665-032 or jkr0601@att.net. Alternate e-mail is mwr0600@gmail.com. A little Help, Please! Mel has arranged for the next load of shotgun targets to be delivered at 1:30 pm on Thursday, March 1. Anyone needing work hours, here s your chance to get some. Anyone else with a little time can also pitch in unloading and stowing the targets. If it turns out to be a really cold or nasty day check with Mel before coming out. High Power: Resumes firing on Saturday, March 31. Registrations start at 8:30 am and are accepted until 9:15 on match day, and firing starts at 9:30 SHARP. Pre-registration is available for KSRA matches only. Sat., Mar. 31: 88-rd. 200/300/600 XTC. Approved match. John Heger will run the match. Work day to follow. Precision Rifle: Greg Krebaum continues to run the program.

Matches are the third Saturday of the month, but be sure to double-check with the club calendar and with Greg beforehand. For information contact Greg at (620) 662-7515 or e-mail him at krebaum@sbcglobal.net Precision Rimfire Shoot: Competition will resume at 8:30 am at the 200-yard sight-in range second Sunday of the month beginning in March (11th). For information contact Jeremy Hitschmann at (316) 288 9034 or e-mail Jeremy at jeremyhitschmann@gmail.com. Rimfire Fun Shoot: Shoots will be held on the Cowboy Action range and pistol bays at 8:30 am fourth Sunday of every month. For information contact Dennis Chambers at casttackle@cox.net (620) 664-7004. Next shoot is February 25. Cowboy Action: It is with much regret that we announce a temporary halt in the Cowboy program due to lack of participation. Over time this highly popular discipline has declined in numbers, and the club hopes to turn this issue around. Every club member is urged to give this fun game whatever help you can. Get with any of the cowboys and go out and shoot a practice stage or two. See what it s all about. Help run a match sometime. Talk it up among your friends. Far too much effort has gone into our present facility to see it used so little. Contact Richard Colvard at (620) 662-0603 or e-mail him at richie_reno45@yahoo.com. He needs some help to save a great program. Notes From Yesteryear: The Hutchinson Gun Club is one of the factors that is doing all in its power to boost Hutchinson. The club is composed of a number of hustling people of the town and it has arranged for a big shoot to be held here on April 24, 25 and 26. The shoot will bring the champion shots of the world here, and Hutchinson will therefore this year have more of the big shooters together than any city in the United States west of Chicago. There will be a large number of amateur shooters here also for that occasion, and it will be three days of good sport. The shoot will be held at the club s grounds in Northside park. There is a new trap ready for this shoot, and the big affair will be held in front of the grandstand. It will be free to everyone. The Salina Daily Union, Monday, April 8, 1907. P.1. ( editor s note: Northside Park is now 14th and Poplar )
