Milwaukee Brewers (63-48) vs. LOS ANGELES DODGERS (60-49) RHP Jhoulys Chacin (10-3, 3.45) vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw (4-5, 2.52) Thursday, August 2, 2018 6:08 p.m. PT Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 110 Home Game 56 (29-26) Night Game 78 (43-34) TV: SNLA; SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (English)/ KTNQ 1020 AM (Spanish) NOW WE ROLL: The Dodgers last night snapped their three-game losing streak with the clubs first regular season walk-off home run since 2016 and this evening closes out a four-game set looking to draw even with Milwaukee in the series. Thus far, Los Angeles is 1-2 on its seven-game homestand and is currently tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the National League West. Following this series, the Dodgers will host the Astros this weekend in a rematch of last year s Fall Classic. Los Angeles has posted a 34-19 (.642) record since the beginning of June, which is the best winning percentage in the NL over that time. The Dodgers took two of three from the Brewers in Wisconsin July 20-22, outscoring the Brew Crew 19-10 and hitting.315 during the series. With a victory tonight, Los Angeles will win the season series with Milwaukee for the second straight year. GATORADE SHOWER: Yasmani Grandal s two-run, walk-off homer last night in the 10 th inning was the club s first regular season walk-off home run since the home finale of the 2016 campaign, when Charlie Culberson s blast clinched the division title. The walk-off win is just the second for the Dodgers this season, following an 11-inning victory over the Rangers on June 13. Los Angeles also improved to 5-6 in extra-inning games this season. STILL GOING: Dodger infielder Manny Machado went 0-for-4 last night, but drew a walk in the sixth inning to extend his streak of reaching base safely in a game to 32, which is the longest active streak in the Majors. In 13 games with the Dodgers, Machado is hitting.264 (14-for- 53) with two homers, five RBI and a.391 on-base percentage. QUITE THE COMBO: The Dodgers lead the league in both ERA (3.46) and home runs (147), something very few teams have accomplished in the last 30 seasons: Teams to Lead League in Home Runs & ERA Last 30 Seasons 1992 Atlanta Braves (NL) 138 HR, 3.14 ERA 1993 Atlanta Braves (NL) 169 HR, 3.14 ERA 1995 Cleveland Indians (AL) 207 HR, 3.83 ERA 2013 Atlanta Braves (NL) 181 HR, 3.18 ERA 2018 Los Angeles Dodgers (NL) 147 HR, 3.46 ERA *The Dodgers last accomplished this feat in 1983. SOURCE: STATS, LLC DRE DAY: Tomorrow night, the Dodgers will celebrate the retirement and career of former outfielder Andre Ethier, who spent his entire career in Los Angeles, roaming the field at Chavez Ravine from 2006-17. Ethier will hold a press conference in the Dodger Interview Room at 5:30 p.m. and the ceremony, emceed by actor Jason Bateman, will begin at 6:45 p.m. The ceremony will also include tributes from teammates, coaches and friends. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and also enjoy postgame Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny s. GOING, GOING, GONE: The Dodgers belted three home runs last night, increasing their National-League leading total to 147, nine more than the Colorado Rockies. Los Angeles is fifth in the Majors, trailing the Yankees (170), Indians (150), Angels (149) and Athletics (148). The Dodgers also lead the National League in at bats/home run (25.18), home runs per game (1.35) and extra-base hits (361). SHUT IT DOWN: The Dodger picked up the victory last night in extrainnings and are currently tied with Colorado for the most saves in the National League with 36. Since June 30, Dodger relievers have posted a 2.64 ERA (26 ER/88.2 IP) while holding the opposition to a.166 average to go along with 108 strikeouts. During that time span, the Dodgers bullpen ERA is second in the Majors to Philadelphia (2.46) and leads all of baseball in opponents average, opponents on-base percentage (.236) and opponents OPS (.561). Kenley Jansen collected his 30 th save of the season Saturday and has now reached 30 saves for the fifth consecutive year (2014-18), becoming the only Dodger and the second active reliever (Craig Kimbrel, 8) to accomplish the feat. Caleb Ferguson has gone 2-0 with two saves and a 1.29 ERA (3 ER/21.0 IP) in nine relief appearances. Ferguson has also limited the opposition to a.179 average, while striking out 27 against just two walks. MATCHUP vs. BREWERS Dodgers: T-1 st, NL West (1.0 GA) Brewers: 2 nd, NL Central (1.0 GB) All-Time: LA leads series, 78-58 (38-30 at Dodger Stadium) 2018 vs. MIL: Series tied, 3-3 (1-2 at Dodger Stadium) July 20 at MIL: W, 6-4 W: Hill L:Williams S: Jansen July 21 at MIL: L, 2-4 W: Burnes L: Kershaw S: Knebel July 22 at MIL: W, 11-2 W: Wood L: Suter S: Ferguson July 30 at LA: L, 2-5 W: Hader L: Maeda July 31 at LA: L, 0-1 W: Miley L: Buehler S: Jeffress Aug. 1 at LA: W, 6-4 (10) W: Floro L: Albers QUITE THE FIRST IMPRESSION: Last night, newly acquired second baseman Brian Dozier went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and two runs scored in his Dodger debut. Dozier, 31, who was acquired from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, cracked his 17 th homer of the season and is looking to heat up as the second half rolls on. Since the start of 2016, no one has hit more homers after the All-Star break: MLB, Most Home Runs Hit Post All-Star Break, 2016-18 Brian Dozier, MIN/LA 50 Khris Davis, OAK 50 Nelson Cruz, SEA 46 J.D. Martinez, DET/ARI/BOS 44 Justin Upton, DET/LAA 44 KEPT IT GOING: Dodger catcher Yasmani Grandal picked up right where he left off in July last night, belting his 18 th and 19 th homers of the season, including a two-run walk-off shot in the 10 th inning. The walk-off homer was the second of his career and he has now hit two or more homers in a game 11 times. Grandal has been tremendous at Dodger Stadium this season, slashing.319/.434/.594 with 10 homers, 28 RBI and a 1.028 OPS. Since July 1, Grandal is slashing a ridiculous.593 (16-for-27)/.703/1.222 at Chavez Ravine. He ranks among the National League leaders (min. 100 AB) at home in batting average (.319, 8 th ), On-base-percentage (.434, 2 nd ), slugging percentage (.594, 7 th ) and OPS (1.028, 5 th ). According to STATS, LLC, Grandal became just the second Dodger ever to hit two home runs in a game and also collect a walk-off home run. The other player to do it was Hall of Famer Roy Campanella, who did so May 27, 1953 vs. the Giants at Ebbets Field. #KERSHAWDAY: The Dodgers tonight will send left-hander Clayton Kershaw to the mound for his 16 th start of the season as he looks to record his fifth victory of the year, following last Friday night s win in Atlanta (7.2 IP, 6 H, R, 8 K). The 7.2 innings was a season high and in 2018, the Dodger ace has a 2.52 ERA (25 ER/89.1 IP), 91 strikeouts against just 17 walks and a.230 opponents batting average. Kershaw has 10 quality starts, including four of his last five. Among hurlers with 10 or more starts this season, the southpaw ranks fourth in the National League in ERA, while his 5.35 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks fifth and his 1.05 WHIP is tied for fifth best on the Senior Circuit. In 13 career starts against the Brewers, Kershaw has gone 5-5 with a 2.85 ERA (27 ER/85.1 IP). In that time, he has limited Brewers hitters to a.208 average, while striking out 93 against 22 walks and has posted a 1.01 WHIP. Strangely, Kershaw has struggled against the Brewers at Dodger Stadium, going 1-4 with a 5.03 ERA in six starts. Since coming off the disabled list on June 23, Kershaw is 3-1 with a 2.23 ERA (10 ER/40.1 IP) and 38 strikeouts against just six walks in seven starts. He has also limited the opposition to a.227 average and has posted a 0.99 WHIP. The Dodgers are 5-2 in those games. Among all-time starting pitchers with more than 100 games started following the All-Star break since 1933, when the All-Star game was born, Kershaw tops all hurlers in ERA (2.06), while ranking fourth in winning percentage (.703) and fourth in opponents batting average (.207) EASY CALL: On this date in 1981, Dodger Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson became the first baseball player depicted on a United States postal stamp. Since then, teammate Roy Campanella and more than 20 baseball legends have been featured on stamps.
