Check out the District 9 4-H Website to get information about participation in District Events. Just remember that the County deadlines may be sooner than those that are listed for district to accommodate review and processing time. Usually participation is required at the County level before advancing to District events. All registration on 4-H Connect must be certified by the County Extension Office to be valid. The website for District 9 is http://d94-h.tamu.edu. Register for events early to avoid possible glitches that could cause delays. Kay Hardin recently competed in Denver, CO at the National Western Livestock Show and placed 8th & 12th with her goats! Way to go! Brandon Powell, ToeBen Kindt, and Harrison Novak competed in the D9 Archery Competition! Harrison Novak placed 2nd in compound limited junior division.

Page 3 IT S THE BIG TIME IN D9 4-H ROUNDUP 2015, MAY 1-2, 2015 4-H contests will be held in one 2-day weekend! It will be like a 4-H-a-palooza-fun for the whole family! 4-H members can participate in one or more contests; everyone can watch most contests and events to learn more; and there will be family activities, including a BBQ cook-off and big award presentations each day! You can come for one day or both. You can stay for a few hours or the whole time. Advantages are: 1) There is only one weekend you will have to schedule around other activities; 2) Only one weekend to travel for almost all district contests; and 3) There will be a good balance between competition and fun! You will have to plan and prepare carefully if you want to participate in several contests (so that it is a possible drawback to those of us who wait to the last minute)! Reasonable accommodations will be made to allow 4-H members to participate in as many contests as they would like. 4-H Pit Master Food Challenge- BBQ Cook off Date: May 1-2, 2015 Location: Alvin Community College Entry/Reg. Deadline: April 2,2015 Entry: $20.00 per Brisket, Spare Ribs, and Chicken entry per, $5.00 per burger entry per team. For more information go to http://d94-h.tamu.edu/eventsandcontest/bigtime/bbq-cook-off/ Food Show February 8: Food Workshop at Snook ISD Cafeteria-The workshop will include a practice for Food Challenge and participant presentations March 29: County 4-H Food Show at Snook ISD Cafeteria *Awards presentation will be held immediately following Food Challenge April 10: Food Show entries/paperwork due to district office April 12: Deadline for district entries on 4-H Connect May 1-2: District 9 4-H Food Show Food Challenge Call the Extension office (567-2308) to sign up to participate in the Food Challenge. Teams will be 3 to 5 members who must all be in the same age category (Juniors, Intermediates, Seniors). If you have a team in mind, please let us know. But if you don t have a team yet, that s ok too. We will make final team assignments after the workshop depending on how many we have entered in each age group and how many coaches we have. Adult leaders, if you would like to coach a team, please call and sign up too! We would like each team to have their own coach. Feb 8: Food Workshop at Snook ISD Cafeteria The workshop will include a practice for Food Challenge and participant presentations March 29: County Food Challenge at Snook ISD Cafeteria. This will serve as the county qualifying event for the District Food Challenge. April 12: Deadline for district entries on 4-H Connect May 1-2: District 9 4-H Food Challenge Educational Presentation Training Have you considered participating in Roundup with an Educational Presentation (sometimes called a method demonstration or illustration or illustrated talk)? Is there a topic you are interested in sharing with others but need help putting it together? There are close to 20 categories you can enter an Educational Presentation in for 4-H Roundup. Share the Fun and Public Speaking are also major parts of Roundup. If interested, please contact Tina for training dates and times. OTHER CONTESTS Of course there are many other District 4-H contests that you can compete in, both as an individual and as teams. All of these contests, and their related projects, provide valuable learning experiences for youth. However, currently in Burleson County there are not large groups participating, and often there is not a county qualifying event required. This does not make these projects any less important or worthy of participation. Any registered 4-H member can participate in any project or contest, all that is needed is a desire to learn and a little bit of patience and persistence in learning the requirements. And, certainly a dedicated adult leader willing to assist is really helpful too! Remember there are loads of information on the Texas 4-H and District 9 4-H websites! If you can t find what you are looking for online, or any time you have questions about ANY 4-H project or area of interest and you just want to talk to someone about it, please do not hesitate to call us at the Extension Office! 567-2308 2015 State Roundup The 2015 Texas 4-H Roundup will be held in College Station, TX on the campus of Texas A&M University from June 8th to the 12th, 2015.
