Last weekend, Bowling Green took on Norfolk State, and earned a 92-77 victory over the Spartans. On Saturday (Dec. 9), Bowling Green will battle a perennial mid-major power in Old Dominion. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Falcons will have familiarity on their side, as the itinerary for the trip is almost identical as it was last weekend. BGSU will be staying in the same hotel as it did a week ago, which is actually closer to the ODU campus than it is the Norfolk State campus. LAST TIME OUT: BGSU VS. EVANSVILLE Bowling Green fell to 7-3 on the season with a 9-76 defeat at the hands of Evansville at the Stroh Center on Dec. 5. The Falcons trailed by six at the half, before pulling within a single point in the second half. However, Bowling Green was unable to overcome a historic shooting night from the Purple Aces. Evansville went an unbelievable 2-for-5 from three-point range. If Evansville made one more of its three-point attempts, the Purple Aces would have broken the NCAA record for three-point percentage in a single game (minimum 5 attempts). Four Falcons scored in double figures, led by redshirt-freshman Justin Turner s 2 points. The Falcons shot 47.2 percent from the field for the game. BEST ROAD START SINCE 200-02 With the program s most-recent win at Norfolk State on Dec. 2, Bowling Green improved to 3-0 on the season in true road games. Prior to this season, the 200-02 Falcons were than last BG team to win its first three true road games. BGSU has already matched its road win total from a season ago. In 206-7, the Falcons went 3-2 on the road. Bowling Green has also picked up road wins over Drexel (Nov. 0) and Campbell (Nov. 25). With the win over Drexel, Bowling Green started a season -0 with a true road win for just the fourth time since 982-83. Additionally, Bowling Green is 4- on the year in games away from the Stroh Center. That record includes a - mark in neutral site contests. Last season, Bowling Green did not finish inside the top 30 in any of the above categories. In fact, outside of scoring offense (67th), the Falcons did not rank in the top 200 in any of the above statistics. THE ASSISTS ARE ADDING UP On the season, Bowling Green is averaging 5.8 assists per game. That number ranks BG 88th in the country in the statistic. Cummings scored 2 points against Lake Erie, while hitting the first two triples of his career en route to a 0-point performance at Campbell. Cummings playmaking ability has also been on full display, as he s had at least one assist in every game this season. The freshman is averaging 6.7 minutes, 6. points,.6 assists, and is shooting 57. percent on twopoint field goal attempts. A WELL-ROUNDED LILLARD Although Antwon Lillard s 206-7 scoring numbers were down from his freshman season, the junior guard increased his outputs in virtually every other statistic, as he clearly became a more versatile and well-rounded player. Lillard pulled down more rebounds in 206-7. His offensive rebounds were essentially the same (38 as a freshman, and 36 as a sophomore), but Lillard posted 3 more defensive rebounds, and increased his per game rebounding totals from 3.4 to 4.2. Last season, Lillard s playmaking increased tremendously. After posting 2 assists as a freshman, he racked up 45 assists as a sophomore, bumping his season average from 0.6 to.5. Lillard got to the free throw line more last season, and improved his free throw percentage from 62.9 to 67.7. Additionally, Lillard committed 0 less fouls as a sophomore, while pushing his season block totals into the double digits, as he blocked 2 shots in 206-7 after picking up nine as a freshman. Lillard made his season debut versus Evansville, scoring six points in minutes. DOING GOOD WORK Sophomore guard Ethan Good, who made his first appearance of the 207-8 season in BGSU s most-recent game versus Evansville, continues to be a tremendous representative of BGSU, both on and away from the court. Good has one of the highest GPA s in the conference. The chemistry major currently owns a 3.600 GPA. In July, Good was placed on the 207-8 Council of Student-Athletes Executive Committee. Only two other MAC student-athletes are on the committee. Good is also a representative on BGSU s We Are One Team (WAT) group. The group uses sport as a forum to create a dialogue between stereotyped groups on campus, including (but not limited to), BGSU Athletics, minority groups, faculty, administration and the general student body. FAMILIAR NON-CONFERENCE COMPETITION In 207-8, Bowling Green faces five non-conference opponents that it competed against during the 206-7 non-conference schedule. Heading into the year, the Falcons were scheduled to complete home-and-home series with South Dakota, Green Bay, Evansville, San Jose State and Norfolk State. Bowling Green went -4 last season against the five opponents, defeating Norfolk State, while losing to Green Bay in the Bill Frack Tournament, and also falling to South Dakota, Evansville and San Jose State by single digits. This season, in games at the Stroh Center, Bowling Green has beaten San Jose State, and lost to South Dakota and Evansville. The Falcons also beat Norfolk State on the road. (SR) Zack Denny 30 2/4/7
