Delmas Long Community Celebrates 25 Years of Service to the Goodlettsville Community The City of Goodlettsville invites its community members to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Delmas Long Community on April 10, 2008. A reception will be held at the facility, located at 200 Memorial Drive, on April 10th from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. Directly following the reception, the City Commission meeting will take place in the community center instead of its regular meeting place in Massey Auditorium at City Hall. Goodlettsville Parks and Recreation has expanded its summer offerings for youth and teens with recreation and sports camps guaranteed to keep them active. Check them out on pages 3 and 4 of this newsletter. Camp space is limited so make sure to register as soon as possible. General Information Program Listings Goodlettsville Parks and Recreation offers programs for people of all ages and for a wide range of interests. Some programs are ongoing, while others vary each quarter. This newsletter covers programs, league registrations, and special events between the months of April - August. Registering for Programs We accept program registration in the following ways: Online We offer online egistration at ww.goodlettsvilleparks.com. ith this option, pay with a credit ard from the convenience of your wn home. Online registration is unavailable for ome programs due to special nstructor requirements. Super Sand Day Running out of things to do with your active preschooler? We will provide Preschool Programs & Youth Camps 3 the sand and the toys - you provide the preschooler! Fee: $2.00 Date: Tuesday, June 3 Time: 10:00am Location: Moss-Wright Park Sand Volleyball Court Registration Deadline: Tuesday, May 27 Piggy Party This little piggy went to the market, this little piggy stayed home bring those little piggys out to the Park for a picnic, games, and a fun art project. Parents, those piggys are going to get messy so please bring a towel and be prepared! Ages: 3-5 Fee: $5 and bring your picnic lunch Date: Wednesday, July 2 Time: 10:30am Location: Moss Wright Park Shelter 3 Registration Deadline: June 25 Wacky Water Fun Splish, splash, it's better than a bath. Put on your swimsuits or swimming diapers and come play in the kiddie pools in our backyard with lots of fun and wacky water toys. Play with other kids and enjoy the summer sun! Ages: 2-5 yrs. Fee: $2.00 Date: Thursday, August 7 Time: 10:00am Location: Community Registration Deadline: Friday, August 1 Youth & Teen Recreation and Sports Camps Camp Summer Escape A half-day camp will be offered this summer with exciting themes each week. Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, camp will meet at the Delmas Long Community where games will be played, crafts will be made, and lots of fun is sure to be had! On Tuesday and Thursday, camp will meet at Moss- Wright Park for crazy outdoor adventures and summer play. Camp is limited to the first 20 to register. The weekly schedules are listed below. Week 1 -- June 9-13 Go For The Gold We re going to kick the summer off with great competitions, games and fun that highlight the Summer Olympics. Week 2 -- June 16-20 Holidaze You ve heard about Christmas in July, we ll be celebrating not only Christmas, but Halloween, Easter and more during this zany week of mixed up holidays. It s everybody s birthday this week! Week 3 -- June 23-27 All American Heroes With Independence Day fast approaching, we ll celebrate not only our country but the everyday people that make up our All American Heroes. Week 4 -- July 7-11 Rewind The Time Let s go back in time and experience what it was like in the 18th Century. Then we ll turn the clocks and visit the 50 s, 60 s, 70 s, and 80 s. Week 5 -- July 14-18 Spin The Wheel Of Themes You won t know what to expect this week as each day we ll spin the wheel to see what theme the next day will bring! Week 6 -- July 21-25 Splashdown! We re going to cool down during our last week at camp with lots of water, water games, and water toys. Prepare to get wet! Ages: 5-10 (must have turned 5 by January 1) Fee: $35 per week plus a one time $20 registration fee Date: M-F Time: 9:00am to 1:00pm Registration Begins: April 28 Colonial Camp Historic Mansker s Station is the ideal setting for a unique adventure in history. Reconstructed Mansker s Fort allows campers the opportunity to experience history first hand, and the original Bowen House lets them step back in time to life on a plantation. Campers will see history come alive with fun and exciting activities that emphasize learning and creativity. Activities include fireside cooking, candle dipping, soap making, and much more! Camp is limited to the first 20 to register. Ages: 8-12 Fee: $75, includes all activity supplies, mid-morning snacks, and a young ladies cap for girls or a tri-corn hat for boys Dates: June 16-20 Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm Registration Begins: March 16 Call Ashley Staley at 851-3210 to register. Bella Bee Enrichment Camp for Girls The Bella Bee Enrichment Camp will show young girls how to act, feel and look like a lady. Knowledge will be gained through leadership, Bella Bee character building and etiquette training. Focal points of discussion for life lessons will include: self-confidence, positive body image, poise, making a great first impression, greeting others, making eye contact, finding empowering role models, resisting peer pressure, and setting and achieving goals. Team building games and physical fitness will ensure that each girl feels empowered and enriched throughout camp and in their every day lives. Some activities like an exciting photo scavenger hunt, making human sculptures and a glamour makeover will ensure that each girl is a true Bella Bee that shines on the inside and out! Grade 4-6 Class Min: 10 Class Max: 20 Class Fee: $70 Supply Fee: $25 (Bring day of class) Date: Session I May 27-30

4 Youth/Teen Camps, & Adults Date: Session II June 30-July 3 Time: 9-1 (Bring a sack lunch and an old magazine) Instructor: Lisa Haynes - Bella Bee Camp Instructor for more information visit www.noahparty.com X-Treme Teen Adventure Trips We have turned up the heat this summer to offer some exciting day trips for teens ages 11-15. All trips are limited to the first 14 people who register. Fees include all admissions, rental equipment, and transportation. The trips are on Wednesdays. June 11 Paintball at Nashville Paintball 9:00am-2:00pm, $35.00 June 18 Rock Climbing at Climb Nashville 12:00pm-4:00pm, $20.00 June 25 Mammoth Cave 8:00am-4:00pm, $20.00 July 9 Ice Skating and Swimming 9:00am-4:00pm, $15.00 July 16 GoKarts, Golf, and Games 12:00-4:00pm, $20.00 July 23 Canoeing on the Harpeth River 9:00am-4:00pm, $20.00 Youth Tennis Camp Want to learn how to play tennis? Or if you already know how, here s a chance to tune up your skills to be a better player. Come to this 5-day beginner to intermediate camp and learn the mechanics of your stroke, rules of the game, and further understanding of the game of tennis. Mark Foster will instruct this very fun and informative camp. Ages and Times: 8 11 years, 9:00am 10:30 am 12 16 years, 11:00am - 12:30pm Fee: $65 Registration: Ends June 27 Date: July 7th July 11th Location: Peay Park Tennis Courts Softball Camp Receive instruction with every aspect of the game of softball. Hitting, pitching, throwing, and catching skills will be introduced to the younger campers and fine-tuned for the older players. This 3-day camp will be a great chance to learn more about the game and how to get better as a player. Instructed by Alicia Lee. Ages and Times: 7-10 years, 8:00am - 11:00am 11-14 years, 12:00pm 3:00pm Fee: $60 Registration: Ends May 23 Date: June 2 June 4 Location: Moss-Wright Park Lacrosse Camp Due to printing deadlines, information on our Lacrosse camp was unavailable. Adults Self Defense and Fitness Seminar Been scared or intimidated of trying a Martial Arts class or think Karate is just for kids? Well, now is your chance to try something exciting, fun, and safe in an adult atmosphere. Wado Karate will be hosting a FREE seminar that will be informative, educational, low impact, and most of all FUN! Don t be intimidated by something you haven t tried before. Everyone who attends this is in the same boat as you. Class will be informal so just wear comfortable, loose clothing. Fee: FREE Date: April 15 Time: 6:00 Location: Community Registration Deadline: April 11 Conversational Spanish II This class will meet twice a week for three weeks and is a continuation of Spanish for Beginners. All participants must have taken the first class or have had a decent amount of Spanish classes before to enroll. Meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00-7:30pm starting April 22. Cost of class includes all materials that will be needed. Fee: $90 Registration: Ends April 11 Time: 6:00 7:30 pm Spanish for Beginners This is a six-session beginning level Spanish course that will teach basic conversational Spanish. This is a great chance to learn from a highly qualified teacher. Cost of class will include all materials that will be needed. Meets each Tuesday and Thursday night from 6:00-7:30pm starting July 8. Fee: $90 Registration: Ends June 27 Time: 6:00 7:30 pm Early Tennessee Lecture Series Learn about our State s past in this unique series featuring a different, knowledgeable speaker each month. The lecture series is free to the public and will be held at Historic Mansker s Station at 6:00pm on each of the dates listed below. April 24 -- Speaker: Ann Toplovich, Tennessee Historical Society May 29 -- Speaker: Walter Durham, State Historian June 26 -- Speaker: Myers Brown, Tennessee State Museum July 31 -- Speaker: TBA Beginner s Ballroom Dance WOW! Have you ever seen Dancing with the Stars? Well just step onto the floor and let instructor Gary Grove teach you how to dance like the stars. His classes consist of learning to dance the Fox Trot, Waltz, Swing, Tango, and many more. You will learn variations, style, leading, following, timing, rhythm and much more. Come on in, let your hair down and join in on some fun, while you learn. Starts May 15 and goes for 8 weeks. Fee: $50 Time: 7:15 8:45 pm Location: Pleasant Green Park Clubhouse Registration: Ends May 9 Intermediate Ballroom Dance This is a follow up class to the Beginner s Ballroom Dance Class. Taught by Gary Grove, you must have taken his beginner class or have experience in ballroom dancing before being allowed to participate in the Intermediate Class. Class starts May 12 and runs for 8 weeks. An extremely passionate teacher Marion Moe Moeller will be instructing this seminar. She will teach a variety of basic first aid methods and skills,

Senior Adults & Athletics 5 from proper animal restraint and muzzling to dressing wounds and treating shock. Participants also complete training in pet CPR and rescue breathing. Working mostly with oils, acrylics, and watercolors, students usually walk out of class with a complete work. Summer Recreation T-ball A new t-ball league will be forming this summer for boys and girls ages 4 and 5. This is a recreation league that will be based on learning fundamentals and having fun. Register now through May 30 at the Delmas Long Community. Practices will begin the week of June 16 and games will be played in July. Registration fee includes jersey, hat, and trophy. Coaches will be needed. Ages: 4 and 5 (by July 1) Fee: $25 Registration April 1 May 30 Fall Girls Volleyball This league will provide every girl a chance to learn and play the game of volleyball. All matches are played at the Delmas Long Community. Register online at. Skills evaluation night will be Tuesday, August 5 at 6:00pm. These 5 days of instruction are what you are looking for. These lessons are for beginners to intermediate players. Instructor Mark Foster will work with you to help develop your stoke, fundamentals, and further your understand of the game. Ages: 17+ Fee: $65 Registration: Ends June 27 Date: July 7th July 11th Time: 6:00 pm 7:30 pm Location: Peay Park Tennis Courts Fitness Stroller Strides Stroller Strides is a total fitness program for new moms that they can do with their babies. It includes Power Walking and intervals of body toning using exercise tubing and the stroller. Taught by specially trained instructors, it's a great workout for any level of exerciser. Please get doctor's permission before starting this or any other exercise. There will also be a free Luna Mom s Club that will provide activities such as playdates, Mom s Nights Out and Mommy Missions focusing on health and the environment. Attendance for the extra events is not required. Classes meet 9:15-10:15 Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during each session. Classes will meet indoors when it rains and when there is excessive heat. There is a onetime $35 registration fee that will include a Stroller Strides Member T- shirt, water bottle and gift bag. Quest for Gold - July 11 Delmas Long Community This is the year of the Summer Olympics and we will be geting into the fun by hosting our own version of the Olympics. Great Rubber Duck Race July 18 Moss-Wright Park Select what you think is the winning duck, then name it and register it with a race official. Final Fling July 25 Delmas Long Community The summer is winding down by this point and there is no better way to spend it than in the water. We ll have water inflatables, games, and tons of fun. Independence Day Celebration The City of Goodlettsville s Annual Fourth of July Celebration will take place on Friday, July 4, 2008 at Moss-Wright Park from 4:00pm to 10:00pm. This is a great family and community event that you will not want to miss. There will be music, food, games, Fireman s Foam, inflatables, and will conclude with fireworks. Dog Day Out Pet owners and their best friends are invited out for a fun event on June 7 from 9:00am-11:00am at Fenway s Park, the dog park within Moss-Wright Park.
