A healthy Noel Johnson and Allen Payne will also be in the mix. HELP ARRIVES A recruiting class ranked third in the SEC will help Coach Tony Barbee s rebuilding project immensely as top 100 recruits and incoming freshmen guards Jordan Price and Shaquille Johnson both are from metro Atlanta. Guard Brian Greene Jr., 6-foot-9 forward Jordan Granger, 7-foot center Asauhn Dixon-Tatum and 6-foot-8 forward Shareif Adamu round out the highly-touted class. They are a diffi cult mismatch for people because they shoot 3s and you have to get out on ball screens and contest their shooters. They have a great player in Ryan Anderson, who is averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds a game, and he is a diffi cult matchup. He is a four man who can step out on the fl oor, take you off the dribble and can score on you in the post. He is a real diffi cult offensive player, especially in that Princeton offense, which is a very diffi cult offense to play against." (How difficult is it to prepare for the Princeton offense when you don't see it often?) It is hard to really prepare because there are a lot of screens, slip screens and back doors. You have to be really

disciplined defensively to guard that action. It is very hard to prepare for, but you just have to be focused defensively and communicate as a team. They like to shoot a lot of 3s so you have to defend the perimeter and don't get set up for slips to the basket." (What challenge does it present by Boston College shooting so many 3s with having your big men guard outside?) It is a challenge because they have a 7-foot center in Dennis Clifford, who can step out and shoot 3s. You have to be there on them. It is difficult to get your bigs out there to defend them, but it is another challenge that I am sure our bigs will be ready to take on." (How much did it help to see Boston College play in Charleston?) It helped a lot to see it live. You pretty much got a sense of what they like to do, but it is still hard to prepare. It doesn't make it any easier to defend that Princeton offense. We have our work cut out for us, and we look forward to going up there and play well." (On Auburn after the three games in Charleston) Of course, our guys are disappointed. We wanted to win all three games. We came back 1-2 so our guys are ready to get on the drawing board, and the younger guys got a feel of what it is like to play at this level. I think they are ready to gear up for Boston College and be ready to move forward." LAST TIME OUT Dayton 73, Auburn 63 (Nov. 18, 2012, in Charleston, S.C.) Kevin Dillard scored 20 points to lead Dayton to a 73-63 victory over Auburn in the Charleston Classic third round in TD Arena. Frankie Sullivan had a gamehigh 23 points and fi ve assists while Rob Chubb scored 11 points and Noel Johnson 10 to lead the Tigers. Dayton ended the half on a 13-2 run to break open a tight game to lead 35-25 at halftime. Frankie Sullivan nailed a 3-pointer to give Auburn a 23-22 lead with 6:02 left, but the Tigers only scored on a Shaquille Johnson layup the rest of the half. Auburn scored the first four points of the second half to close to within six, but Dayton used an 11-1 run to extend its lead to 49-33 with 14:53 left. The Tigers closed it to 10 several times but couldn t get any closer. The game got off to a quick start with both teams shooting over 63 percent from the fi eld as Auburn held a 12-11 lead just over four minutes in. Dayton outshot Auburn from the foul line, 27-of-36 to 13-of-17 and outrebounded the Tigers 33-27. Auburn shot 41.8 percent from the fi eld to Dayton s 46.7 percent while both teams struggled from 3 as Auburn was 4-of-16 and Dayton 4-of-13. BABY STEPS In the second year of the Coach Tony Barbee era in 2011-12, the Tigers increased both their overall and SEC wins from year one to year two. Auburn improved to 15-16 overall and 5-11 in SEC play last year from 11-20 overall and 4-12 in league play in 2010-11. FRANKIE SULLIVAN GRADUATES Senior Frankie Sullivan graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Sociology on Dec. 12, 2011. He is the first Tiger to graduate in three and a half years since Marquis Daniels, now of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, earned his degree in 2003. AUBURN'S ALL-TIME RECORD Entering the 107th season and through 2,344 games of Auburn Basketball, the Tigers are 1246-1097-1 (.532). OVERTIME RECORD Auburn has a 46-48 (.489) record in overtime games in its history. The Tigers have not played an overtime game this season. COACH SONNY SMITH Legendary former Auburn head coach Sonny Smith is an analyst on the Auburn IMG Sports Network this year with lead announcer Rod Bramblett. Sonny coached for 11 years from 1978-1989 and led the Tigers to a school record five-straight NCAA Tournaments from 1984-88, including the 1986 Elite Eight and 1985 Sweet 16. His 1985 Tigers became the fi rst SEC school to win four games in four days en route to the SEC Tournament Championship, defeating Alabama 53-49 in overtime in the fi nal. He went 173-154 overall and coached All-Americans Chuck Person, Charles Barkley and Chris Morris. AUBURN ARENA QUICK SKETCH Entering its third season, the offi cial groundbreaking of the new $86 million Auburn basketball arena and practice facility was on Aug. 29, 2008. The Auburn Arena, with a capacity of 9,121, includes over 29,000 square feet of student-athlete space, a two-court practice facility, coaches offi ces, the Auburn University Athletic Ticket Offi ce, an AU Team Store, the relocated Lovelace Museum and two food courts along with many other amenities. 360 Architecture of Kansas City, Mo.,

Auburn-Boston College Game Notes -- page 7 worked with Davis Architects of Birmingham on the design of the arena. The fi rm of Robins & Morton of Birmingham served as construction manager. The 243,792 square foot facility features chair back seats along with bleacher seating for students. The building also provides improved facilities for the student-athletes, including men's and women's locker room suites with sports medicine facilities, lounges and team meeting rooms. Along with a strength and conditioning center, a two-court practice facility enables the team another practice areas. The arena has 12 luxury suites on the arena level that not only open inside the facility, but also opens on the outside of the arena for multiple entertaining opportunities throughout the year. Loge box seating also is available as well as on-site food preparation. The seating confi guration offers better sight lines and moves fans closer to the court. The furthest seat is just 43 feet in elevation from courtside, compared to 60 feet in elevation at Beard-Eaves, with two-thirds of the seats in Auburn Arena being less than 27 feet in elevation from courtside. The scoreboard features a highdefi nition video board with full message/ information center technology. For the student fan amenities, there is a private entrance, a private courtside commons and food court and courtside seating that permits standing with unobstructed views. The new facility serves as more than a sports complex. With over 12,000 square feet of banquet/entertainment space, its design affords ready adaptation into a site for concerts, other cultural events, convocations and other community gatherings. On-campus student housing is adjacent to the new arena creating a unique "student village" experience. ppg and Andre Malone averages 10.8 ppg. Rhode Island plays host to Loyola (Md.) on Friday prior to playing Auburn. Dan Hurley is in his fi rst year as head coach of Rhode Island and Bobby Hurley is one of his assistants. WHAT'S NEXT? Auburn returns home for the fi rst time in over two weeks as it plays host to Rhode Island (0-4) on Sunday at 4 pm CT. Former Auburn guard Andre Malone is a senior on the Rams team along with 6-foot-10, 205-pound freshman forward Jordan Hare from Saginaw, Mich. Rhode Island has lost its fi rst four games to Norfolk State 67-55, at Virginia Tech 69-50, vs. Ohio State 69-58 and Seton Hall 60-55.
