Cardiff Met Football G A T E W A Y T O E U R O P E Cardiff Metropolitan University FC are in a unique position to be able to compete in the prestigious UEFA Champions League & UEFA Europa League. This is something most student-athletes can only dream about. In 2017, Cardiff Met FC were one game away from UEFA competition against the likes of Rangers FC. To continue progressing and to compete at this level we are always looking for players who could strengthen our programme.

WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE In its 25th season, the Welsh Premier League, is the top league within Wales. It is made up of 12 Professional & Semi-Professional teams and is therefore a showcase for professional clubs in the English Football League. Cardiff Met F.C are able to compete at this level through strategic recruitment, particularly of postgraduate student-athletes to Masters & PhD study. The pathway to play in the Welsh Premier League is via the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Intercollegiate competition. Western 3B (2 Teams) Western 5B & 7B (2 Teams) Western A1 PERFORMANCE Welsh Premier League (U19 Development) DEVELOPMENT RECREATION In addition to the performance pathway, there is a development pathway for 1st year students and a Recreation pathway for walk-ons. Transitions between pathways are based on performance, commitment, rest/recovery and long term-development
SEASON & STRUCTURE League season Following the European model, weekly matches are evenly distributed over an 8 month season. This structure allows for continuous development and more manageable playing workloads that balance optimum performance and necessary recovery Pre-Season Mid-July Mid-August Season Mid-August May Off Season May Mid-July Games in a season The figures below are indicative of the minimum number of games in each competition. Progress in cup competitions and play-offs increase the number of total games.
