Emanuel Gat Dance Israel Winter Voyage / The Rite of Spring EGD was founded in January 2004 at the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel-Aviv. The Artistic Director Emanuel Gat s first creation The Rite of Spring premiered in June 2004. This new version of Stravinsky s masterpiece has since gained international recognition for its daring and original approach. Other works like Winter Voyage, a duet for two men set to Schubert s Winterreise, or KV 626, a choreography on Mozart s Requiem have been presented and were much acclaimed in Israel and around the world. Young Israeli Choreographers Israel Happiness / Solo Siento / Room for Thoughts The Young Israeli Choreographers exist of 8 group members from the Middle East country. Among them are dancers and choreographers as well as visual artists. Maya & Tomer work together since 1991 creating more than 10 dance pieces. At SDF they are going to perform Happiness. Belarusian born Arkadi Zaides and Shira Miasnik cooperate since 2005 and in Solo Siento they combine Arkadi s solo dance with Shira s visual art exploring new ways of reactive expression. Aviv Eve-Guy, Maya Brinner and Ido Cohen-Alloro joined recently the group and developed Room for Thoughts a performance integrating video art and dance to create an extreme experience of movement and space. All group members are dedicated to merge the traditional performing art form of dance with the new artistic language of video-art. Danish Dance Theatre Denmark Kridt Established in 1981 the Danish Dance Theatre is one of the major forces in contemporary dance in Denmark. The British born Tim Rushton took over the artistic leadership in 2001. Under his direction, the company has gained an international presence and enjoyed acclaim throughout Europe, North America, Australia and the Middle East. The vision of the Danish Dance Theatre is to push the borders of the perception of dance. The gap between contemporary and classical dance is the signature playground of Tim Rushton and the company. New Waves of Shanghai Young Chinese Choreographers Male. City. Female. / Me or Us? Fragments of Memory / Switch Like in 2006 at the first edition of SDF the festival provides again a platform for young Chinese choreographers. Under the title New Waves of Shanghai six artists present their latest dance creations. The program opens with the group dance Male. City. Female. choreographed by Wang Tao. Wang Tao graduated in 1995 from JieFang Jun Art Academy and joined the Guangzhou Soldier Dance Group. Since 2000 he dances for Jin Xing Dance Theatre and choreographed Dimensions and Demarcations for last years SDF. Liu Min-Zi s solo creation is titled Me or Us?. Liu graduated 1997 from Gansu Art School and joined Ge Wu Tuan. In 1998 she moved to Shanghai and worked for Shanghai Opera Dance Company before joining Jin Xing Dance Theatre in 2000. She co-choreographed with dancers from foreign countries and in 2006 her dance piece My Beautiful World premiered at SDF. Sun Zhu-Zhen and Zhao Yuan-Hang developed for SDF 2007 the duet Fragments of Memory. In 2000 Sun Zhu-Zhen graduated from Shanghai Dance School and in 2004 from Beijing Dance Academy. She joined Jin Xing Dance Theatre in 2005. She choreographed and performed Sui and in last year she presented her work One at SDF 2006. Zhao Yuan-Hang was working for Shanghai Opera Dance Company before he started dancing for Jin Xing Dance Theatre in the year 2000. With their duet Switch Xie Xin and Liu Xian Yi present their own work for the first time to public. The creation ironically plays with the traditional roles of men and women in society. During the performance the female dancer Xie Xin will challenge, undermine and bring to fall the superior position of male Liu Xian Yi. Efva Lilja Sweden The Outmost White SDF 2007 Efva Lilja established herself as a choreographer in 1982. Since then she created many dance pieces among them commissioned works together with major art institutions such as Centre George Pompidou in Paris in 1994 or Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in 2001. Two years after she has been appointed as professor at Stockholm s University College of Dance and in 2006 she became the Vice Chancellor of the school. Efva Lilja is a powerful and singular voice in the world of contemporary dance. Her artistic creations show us the way to an entirely new experience of what is remarkable and strange about human life. Arthur Kuggeleyn & Co Switzerland Kopflos / Masters of Complications Arthur Kuggeleyn started to work as choreographer in 1986 and founded his performing group Arthur Kuggeleyn & Co in 1998 which he leads as artistic director. Since then the company developed around 20 pieces and performed them all over Europe. Continuity throughout the pulsating rhythm of ritualized movement and acoustic as well as visual loops is the main feature of all the company s choreographies. This consistent choreographic style is called trance dance.
