The Buckeyes (6-11-2, 1-2-2-1 B1G) and Wolverines (13-3-4, 4-1-2-1 B1G) will meet at 5 p.m. in Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. FOLLOW ALONG Fox Sports Detroit will carry the action from Ann Arbor, with Dan Dickerson and Manny Legace on the call. SportsTime Ohio will carry the broadcast as well. COMING UP IN COLUMBUS After this weekend s home-and-home series vs. Michigan, Ohio State will host three series in a row, facing Penn State Friday-Saturday, Michigan State Jan. 29-30 (followed by a bye week) and Minnesota Feb. 12-13. The game vs. Michigan Sunday is the only road game in an eight-game stretch. The team opens a six-game homestand Friday vs. Penn State. The Buckeyes are on a season-high five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2). The team beat Boston College and Cornell in Florida Dec. 28-29, went 1-0-1 at Wisconsin last weekend and then tied Michigan Friday. It is the longest unbeaten streak since going 4-0-2 Jan. 25-Feb. 14, 2014. The Buckeyes have had 15 games decided by two or fewer goals this season, including six one-goal games. Juniors Nick Schilkey and David Gust lead the Buckeyes with 19 points each. Schilkey and senior Anthony Greco are first with 10 goals each and Gust has a teambest 14 assists. Gust enters game two vs. Michigan on an eight-game point streak (3g, 5a, 8p). Freshman Mason Jobst (2g, 9a, 11p) has a point in each of his last five games. Ohio State notched its fourth shorthanded goal of the season Friday vs. Michigan. The team had just one last season. The squad has 17 power play goals, already passing the 15 scored by last year s team. The Buckeyes are averaging 3.16 goals a game and allowing 3.05 an outing. The squad has taken 32.9 shots on goal per night and given up 32.3 a contest. Ohio State is averaging 10.9 penalty minutes a game. On the power play, Ohio State is 17-for-82 (.207) and the penalty kill is 66-for-78 (.846). Juniors Nick Schilkey and David Gust share the team point lead with 19 each. Schilkey and senior Anthony Greco are first with 10

goals each and Gust has a team-best 14 assists. Freshman Mason Jobst is second with 12 assists and third with 16 points. Greco (10g, 5a, 15p), sophomore Matthew Weis (6g, 6a, 12p) and junior defensemen Josh Healey (3g, 7a, 10p) have also hit double digits. In goal, junior Christian Frey has nine starts and 10 appearances, with a 2.34 goals-against average and.925 save percentage. Junior Matt Tomkins has started 10 games, including Friday vs. Michigan, and has a 3.36 goals-against average and.899 save percentage. FRIDAY FLASHBACK - OHIO STATE RALLIES FOR TIE, WINS SHOOTOUT In front of a crowd of nearly 9,000, Ohio State skated to a 5-5 overtime tie vs. No. 6 Michigan and then prevailed in the shootout, 3-2 in nine rounds, to clinch the extra point in the Big Ten standings. Ohio State led 3-0 on a first period goal from freshman Mason Jobst and second period goals from senior Anthony Greco shorthanded and freshman John Wiitala on the power play. The Wolverines drew within one in the second with two goals in 24 seconds and then tied the game at three 1:19 into the third on the power play. Ohio State regained the lead (4-3) when junior David Gust scored at 6:54 just after a Buckeye penalty expired. At 17:19, UM tied the game at four and the Wolverines took the lead for the first time at 18:26. Greco s goal, scored with the extra attacker, came after a Jobst faceoff deep in the Michigan zone (and after Ohio State had stopped multiple Wolverine chances at the Buckeyes empty net), with junior Nick Schilkey making the play to get the puck to Greco. Neither team was able to score in overtime, with Ohio State putting four shots on net and the Wolverines getting three through. Ohio State was outshot, 46-33, with Matt Tomkins making 41 saves. In the shootout, Michigan shot first. Sophomore Matthew Weis and Gust scored for Ohio State, tying the shootout in the third and fourth rounds, and freshman Dakota Joshua won it for the Buckeyes in the ninth round after a save by junior goalie Matt Tomkins to open the round. Tomkins had six saves in the shootout, including on the last three shots he faced. IN A ROW Junior David Gust enters the Sunday game at Michigan with a point in each of his last eight games (3g, 5a, 8p). He has a point in all but four games this season. Gust has a career-high 14 assists and 19 points this season. Freshman Mason Jobst has an assist in each of his last five games and had a career-high four points Friday vs. Michigan. He has two goals, nine assists and 11 points in his five-game point streak. Ohio State is on a five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2), marking a season high. The Buckeyes have not allowed a power play goal in the last four games combined, stopping 16 consecutive attempts against. BUCKEYE THIS AND THAT This season, 15 of the Buckeyes 19 games have been decided by two or fewer goals. The squad has played in six onegoal games (including two overtime losses) and seven two-goal contests, with the last two two-goal losses including an empty net score, along two overtime ties. Michigan scored on the power play in the third period Friday, marking the first power play goal allowed by the Buckeyes in five games. The team had stopped 19-consecutive power plays prior to the Wolverine goal. Freshman Mason Jobst had a team-high and career-best four points in the game, with three assists and a goal. It was his second three-assist game as a Buckeye and the second in the last four games. Jobst is tied for fourth among B1G rookies in scoring this year. It was the first four-point game for a Buckeye since Tanner Fritz had two goals and two assists vs. Providence Oct. 10, 2014. Freshman defenseman Sasha Larocque had his first two-assist game as a Buckeye Friday vs. Michigan. He has two goals, five assists and seven points this year, all coming in his last nine games. Junior defenseman Drew Brevig blocked five Wolverine shot attempts in the game Friday. He now has a team-best 59 blocks this season and ranks second nationally with 3.11 a game. Brevig has four or more shot blocks in each of the last five games and had a season-high eight Nov. 28 at Omaha. On the year, Brevig has nine points, including eight assists, and he has a point in eight of the last 10 games. Senior Anthony Greco scored his third shorthanded goal of the season Friday vs. Michigan. He is the 14th Buckeye to score three shorthanded goals in a year and the first since Mathieu Beaudoin in 2007. He is tied for second nationally in shorthanded scores. Greco scored the gametying goal with 6.9 seconds left Friday, marking his second two-goal game of the season and the fourth multiple-goal game of his Buckeye career. He has seven gamewinning goals and two gametying scores in his career for the Scarlet and Gray. Greco had seven shots in the game vs. Michigan. He is fourth in the NCAA averaging 4.47 shots on goal per game. Friday was his fifth game this year with seven shots on net. The Buckeye power play scored on its only opportunity Friday. The squad has a power play goal in six of the last seven games. On the year, the team is 17-for-82 (.207). Michigan had a Buckeye opponent season high 46 shots on goal, the fourth time this year Ohio State has allowed 40 or more shots on goal. Junior goalie Matt Tomkins made his first start since Nov. 28 at Omaha Friday vs. Michigan. He had a career-high 41 saves in the game vs. the Wolverines, topping the 39 he had Nov. 2, 2013 vs. Minnesota Duluth. Freshman John Wiitala had a goal and assist Friday vs. UM, his second two-point game of the year. He has eight points, with five goals and three assists, this season. The nine-round shootout Friday vs. Michigan was the second-longest in Buckeye history, behind only the 10-round shootout March 13, 2015 at Wisconsin, which the Buckeyes won 4-3. The Buckeyes are averaging 3.16 goals a night and have four or more in nine of their last 14 outings. The eight-goal game vs. Cornell was the first time the team scored eight goals since an 8-2 win over Notre Dame in the first round of the CCHA tournament March 6, 2010. The eight-goal win was the first time the team beat a team by eight or more goals since a 10-1 victory over Bentley Dec. 12, 2008. Ohio State has blocked 292 shots this year and is seventh nationally, averaging 15.26 a game. Junior defenseman Josh Healey had an assist Friday and now has a career-high 10 points this season, matching his personal best with seven assists. He has a point in seven of his last eight games. Michigan entered the series this weekend ranked No. 6. Ohio State has played six games vs. a team ranked in the Top 10 at the time of the game this season (No. 3 Providence, No. 6 Omaha, No. 4 Boston College, No. 9 Cornell), posting wins over Boston College and Cornell. WOLVERINES Ohio State and Michigan met for the first time in 1964 and after games in 1969-70, 1974-75 and 1978-79, have met at least once each season since 1981-82 when Michigan joined Ohio State in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Wolverines lead the all-time series, 78-34-13, including 34-17-6 in Columbus and 39-14-7 in Ann Arbor. Michigan won three of the four games between the teams last season, with an 8-3 victory Dec. 5, 2014 in Ann Arbor and a 10-6 win Jan. 16, 2015 in Columbus. The Buckeyes posted a 5-3 win Feb. 20, 2015 in Columbus but fell in Ann Arbor, 5-2, Feb. 22, 2015. Three Buckeyes call Michigan home - junior Nick Schilkey (Marysville), freshman Dakota Joshua (Dearborn) and freshman Brendon Kearney (Northville). Later this season, the Buckeyes and Wolverines will face off in a second home-and-home series, playing in Ann Arbor March 4 and downtown in Nationwide Arena in Columbus March 6.
