Autumn Term Issue 437 Fairfield Preparatory School, Leicester Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire. LE11 2AE. Tel: 01509 215172 Email admin@lesfairfield.org Friday 11 th December, 2015 From the Headmaster The Pre Prep Christmas productions have certainly finished off our penultimate week in splendid style. The children performed wonderfully and provided the perfect opportunity for us all to reflect on why this is such a magical time of year. Two of our Reception boys had an extra commitment on Monday and Tuesday evening at Loughborough High School s Carol Service and fulfilled their role as Baby Jesus with great aplomb, as did our Year 5 and 6 girls who sang beautifully as valued members of the Chesterton Cantamus. As this is the last @Fairfield of the term (and 2015), I do hope that parents of Upper Prep children will be able to join us for the Year 3 & 4 Carol Service on Tuesday, 15 th December and the Year 5 & 6 Carol Service on Wednesday 16 th December. Both events will be held at 2.00pm at All Saints Parish Church, Loughborough and you may collect your children after the Carol Service directly from the church. On Thursday 10 th December, Year 5 travelled to Birmingham to watch a musical show, Treasure Island. The show started well, with the cast coming over to talk with some of the children. This was a thoroughly entertaining, interactive show which the children really loved. The cast even stopped the show midway through the second act to sing Happy Birthday to Rebecca and Grace Doolan. A fabulous time was had by all, and with an ice cream at the interval, what was there not to love?
SPORTS Netball v King Henry Prep School Team Results Blue Herons L: 3 0 Red Herons L: 5 2 Yellow Herons W: 4 1 Green Herons L: 6-4 On Wednesday 9 th December, Fairfield hosted a Year 5 netball fixture against King Henry VIII. This was the girls first netball fixture of the year and they were keen to play in their first 7-a-side match. King Henry started well and took a few of our girls by surprise, but it didn t take long for Fairfield to respond. The games were end-to-end and the Fairfield teams demonstrated some fluent attacking moves. All of the teams responded well to team talks at half time and took on board the advice given to them. The girls should be pleased with their performances and we look forward to testing our skills against King Henry again in the Spring term. Thank you to Mrs Leah, Mrs Love, Miss Greasley and Mrs Sutcliffe for umpiring the matches and supporting the girls throughout. SPORTS U11 Rugby v Leicester Grammar Junior School This was a good way for the U10 team to finish the term. The squad had a few new faces and it was good to see all players trying to move the ball and support from a little deeper. From the outset Fairfield looked eager to close down the opposition and when running the ball, they looked good when the ball was moved on before the tackle. Fairfield led 3 1 at half time and in the second half LGJS came back strongly, threading together some good passing moves of their own. Ultimately Fairfield s greater urgency in support of the ball carrier and assertiveness in breakdown situations led them to an 8 2 win. The game was played in a good spirit with the boys being very supportive of each other. We must thank our excellent supporters again. They have been terrific all term. The U11 B team took to the field for the final time this season facing the daunting prospect of Leicester Grammar's A team! We adapted well to the different class of opposition and soon amassed a 2-0 lead before letting our advantage slip to tie at 4-4 at the break. We dominated possession and territory in the second half and despite having plenty of chances couldn't pull clear. The visitors scored 2 interception tries to move a try ahead before some good passing resulted in an equalising try with minutes to spare. We squandered another try-scoring opportunity just before the final whistle and had to settle for a hard-fought 6-6 draw. A fantastic, unbeaten season nonetheless and the boys can look forward to the future with confidence! Mr Bancroft. On Wednesday 9 th December, the U11 C team played Leicester Grammar at home. The opposition made a bright start and quickly built up a strong lead. Fairfield scored a couple of tries before the break to make the half time score 7-3 to LGJS. The second half saw a much improved performance with Fairfield playing with greater determination and spirit. As a result, the final score was 8-6 to LGJS. A super second half made the score respectable and a fair reflection of the teams abilities. Well played everyone. Despite the score line the last 20 minutes meant the boys could finish the season with a smile. Mr Pitts.
