Pre-meeting: Laurie Bates discussed a Take Two Futurity. Laurie brought along information and passed it out to be reviewed and discussed at a later date. Stallion Breeder s Futurity information: Stallion books have an error that carries intermittently throughout the catalog. This error is concerning the APHA/AQHA stallions. Some that are not double registered are printed as double registered. The way to differentiate the misprinted stallions is to note stallions listed with both APHA/AQHA and are not double registered will only have one ID# listed in the ad. This issue will be addressed at the beginning of the auction and right before auctioning off the stallions with the errors. Minutes from the November 30, 2005 board meeting in Ames, IA read. Motion to approve by Lyle Hanson 2nd by Jerry Truemper MC Treasure s Report was passed out and all the members went over the report. Motion made by Carrie Gulling to approve treasurer s report 2nd by Kim Kass MC Jeannie Stolee reported the Futurity is to pay the club $10 per foal shown at each year s futurity. UPCOMING IPHC EVENTS HORSE FAIR: F The Iowa Horse Fair is coming up April 7, 8 and 9 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. IPHC will have a booth again this year at the trade show. We are looking for volunteers to take two-hour shifts sitting at the booth. We have reserved 10 wristbands. The first 10 people to volunteer will get a wristband, which is free admission to Horse Fair events all weekend. If you would like to volunteer, please call either Jerry Cable (515-231-2095) or Jeannie Stolee (515-290-8744). MEMORIAL DAY CLASSIC: The 10-judge Memorial Day show will be upon us soon. Last year s show was a huge success with big entry numbers, and we are looking for an even better showing this year. We are asking for volunteers to help run the gates during the performance classes each day. For a show of this size we need to let the classes enter in one gate and leave out another gate. We NEED volunteer help to sign up for gate shifts. Please call either Jeannie Stolee (515-290-8744) or Jerry Cable (515-231-2095) and let them know when you are available to help. There will also be a sign-up sheet at the entry table at the show. This is a great, easy way to really help your Club! THANK YOU to every who attended the banquet and awards in January. We had the largest reservations we have had for many years. The banquet room was full and, unfortunately, we had to turn away some people who hadn t sent in reservations. We sincerely regret that, but there was just no more room to fit in another table or two. Huge thanks to Cindy Niebuhr for planning this wonderful event and for the great job she did with all of the Youth awards. Thanks, too, to Donna Lubahn and JoAnn Brandau for all of their work with the Club awards. CLASSIFIEDS: FOR SALE Breeders Futurity Weanlings, Yearlings, & 2yr olds fillies & colts. REMINDER Yearling Sustaining Fees and 2 Year Old Maintenance Fees are due without penalty postmarked on or before April 1st. The forms for these two fees are included in this edition of the Iowa Paint Horse Club Newsletter. I have loved horses all of my life. I was the little girl that had every Horse Illustrated pull-out poster ever made glued to her wall, but couldn't have one. It wasn't until I was practically out of high school that I really got into horses, and finally owned one of my own. I entered into college for Graphic Design. And now that graduation is quickly approaching in May of this year, it's time to decide my career path. I want to combine both of my life-loves: horses and design. I've always wanted to be the one making those advertisements in all the horse magazines, or the logos for the farms and businesses, the banners and posters at the horse fairs; everything and anything that says HORSE. Finding design work like this has really been a challenge since I don't know where to start. So here I am! Hoping to find that career-gone-"dream-come-true!" ~Sarah Barfels sbarfels@hotmail.com P.O. Box 692, Dysart, IA 52224 319-269-2961 10 Iowa Paint Horse Club MEMBERSHIP RENWAL REMINDER If you have not paid your 2006 membership this will be your last newsletter. 2006 Iowa Paint Breeders Stallion Service Auction The place to be on January 28, 2006 was the West Des Moines Marriott in West Des Moines, Iowa. Paint Horse Breeders from across the Midwest filled the large meeting room to witness the 31st Annual Iowa Paint Breeders Stallion Service Auction. Within a few minutes following the introductions, and some announcements, the room came alive with ringmen yelling Yep, Yep, Yep. Auctioneer, Bill Bird kept the auction moving right along, as the room of three hundred people waited for the chance to bid on the services of their choice. The enthusiasm and excitement towards the stallion services offered continued throughout the day as the sale proceeds continued to mount over and above previous years auctions. When the gavel came down for the final time, the auction was successful in selling all but 35 services of the 231 offered. The highest fee sold brought $3000, with many more services going above $2000 mark. The Auction receipts are now in excess of $117,000, promising some worthy futurity payouts in 2007 and beyond. There are still some opportunities to get in on this prize money by purchasing a fee from the unsold services list, which will be available until June 1, 2006. Check the list printed in this newsletter or on the web site of the Iowa Paint Horse Club. They sell on a first come, first serve basis, so contact a futurity committee member for the one of your choice. At this time, the futurity committee would like to extend a special thank you to the stallion service donors. Without them, we would not be able to hold our auction. Hats off to the purchasers of these fees. We felt strongly that everyone would appreciate the opportunity to bid on the quality services being offered, which was evident from the auction results. We must not forget those that have helped along the way. The contributions of your time and energies, help to support the largest Paint Futurity in the Nation. What an honor for the Iowa Paint Horse Club to be known as such. Simply said, Thank you ALL. HORSE TRAIL RIDE Pat Meade is putting together a trail ride for our club.
