Our club is run by volunteers and the responsibility of setting up the beach on Sunday mornings should not fall to the same people each week. Furthermore, BBQ helpers are also required. Even if it s not your child s age group week we would still appreciate your assistance!! Please check the roster regularly as it may change. The roster can be found on the club website, www.shellharboursurfclub.com December 1: U/14 December 8: U/13 December 15:U/12 January 5: U/11 January 12: U/10 January 26: U/9 DON T FORGET YOUR FLUORO VEST FOR ALL SURF TRAINING Patrol Exchange This season, Shellharbour SLSC patrolling members have the opportunity to participate in a patrol exchange with Sussex Inlet SLSC. As a much smaller club, they struggle to have enough people to fill a patrol each weekend. Part of the spirit of Surf Lifesaving is to help out fellow lifesavers. If you are interested in helping them out on any Sunday in January, contact Cavo at waynecavo@gmail.com.

Shellharbour SLSC Page 3 Amart All Sports Deal Our club has signed up to be a part of the Amart All Sport Community Kickback program. It involves 5% of the cost of your purchases being donated to the club. This deal has the potential to bring a significant amount of revenue for the club, so please help the club out by shopping at Amart. All you need to do is join team Amart (loyalty program) and say you re a member of Shellharbour SLSC. New Bronze and SRC Holders Congratulations to the newest patrolling recruits who have been awarded their Bronze Medallion: Ashleigh Balmer Chantelle Balmer Drew Crofts Kira Freeman Meg Graham John Miller Aaron Schloeffel Tori Colbron, Sam Glazier Chloe Hass Katie James Peter Kofod Roshen May Maddison Noakes Troy Tonkin Country Championships If you are interested in competing in the SLS NSW Country Championships, to be held at Mollymook SLSC, on January 17-19th 2014, nippers will need to register with their age manager as soon as possible. Seniors should contact Michael Flood at michaelflood@exemail.com.au to register. As the carnival usually attracts a large number of competitors, booking accommodation in advance is advised for those who wish to stay down at/near Mollymook. On the Sunday evening after the carnival is completed, a club party will be held, with all families invited to attend. It is traditionally a great night, and we encourage all involved in the carnival to attend. Venue and time to be confirmed closer to the date.

Coolangatta Gold On the 19/20th October, 6 Shellharbour competitors travelled to Queensland to compete in the Coolangatta Gold, the Hawaii Ironman of Surf Lifesaving. It involves a ski paddle, run, swim, run, board paddle, then finish with a run. On the Saturday, life member Jo Helson, Meg Helson and Karri Ryan teamed up as At least we look good to compete in the 32km short course in the Open Women s teams division. Karri led the team out with a strong ski paddle, Meg pulled up a few places in the run leg, before handing the baton to Jo for the 2.2km swim. Karri then backed up for a difficult board leg straight into the wind, before Meg ran the team home to finish in 3 hours, 57minutes. They came 5th in their division. On Sunday, Paul Schloff Schloeffel and Ray Hobson lined up to compete in the Masters Men long course (41km), whilst Zoe Elkerton lined up for the Open Women's. This was an incredible and historic achievement, as this year was the first year the women have competed in the long course. She finished in 5 hours 21 minutes. Schloff finished in 5 hours 51 minutes, an hour faster than his previous attempt. Ray Hobson gave his all in testing conditions but was unable to complete the race. Congratulations to all competitors for taking part in such a challenging event. Appreciation must also be given to all the handlers and board paddlers, for their valued efforts throughout the race: Aaron and Gill Schloeffel, Darryl Glover, Richard King, Zoe, Laura and Caroline Elkerton, Karri Ryan, Meg, Jacob and Jo Helson. Special Thanks to Blue Helson for his efforts in moving skis and boards over the weekend. We hope more competitors will be able to compete next year!

Page 5 Appeals Day Missing!! Our major fundraiser, Appeals Day, is coming up on Saturday 7th December 2013. Please help out collecting for the club, the money raised is used to purchase new rescue equipment and keep our club going. Contact Tracey Freeman at freemanhr@ozemail.com.au to get a spot on the roster. The brand new Woodside Petroleum red tent is missing. It was last seen in its box in the patrol area during September. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the tent, can they please speak to Cavo, or return it. Social Committee Members Required Do you like to party? Then we want you to join our social committee. The role involves organising social events, such as sippers and Christmas Parties, Start/End of Season parties. This role would be ideal for parents of nippers, or cadet aged members, who are interested in building the community of Shellharbour SLSC through social events.
