Swim & Dive 4/17/2015 1:01:00 PM Fifteen Women's Swimming and Diving Members Earn Academic All-MAC Honors Eagles have second-most honorees in conference CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) The Mid-American Conference announced Friday, April 17, that 15 members of Eastern Michigan University's women's swimming and diving team have been named to the Academic All-MAC team. The honor is the second academic award of the year to be bestowed upon the team, as the Green and White was also pegged as a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) 2014 Fall Scholar AllAmerica team, Feb. 24. Miami led the conference with 17 selections, followed by EMU and Bowling Green (15), Akron and Ball State (13), Toledo (10), Ohio (7), and Buffalo (3). The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. The 15 Eagles that earned the accolade included: Abby Aumiller, Audra Burtch, Clarice Daniel,Lauren Dark, Becca Detro, Monica Dorszewski, Makenzie Garringer, Sara Ghaffari, Carly Jackson,Alexis Mitcheltree, Melynee Saya, Haley Shaw, Karly Taylor, Grace Van Allen, and Sierra Wagner. Aumiller competed in seven meets for the Eagles, taking third in the 200 back against Toledo, Oct. 24, Akron, Oct. 31, and Buffalo, Jan. 24. Her fastest time came against Toledo where she clocked a 2:05.97. The sophomore also finished fourth in the 100 back against Ohio in 59.49 seconds, Nov. 1, and Buffalo in 1:00.15. Aumiller tried her hand at the 1000 free on three occasions, setting a personal record of 10:38.70 against Toledo. She maintains a 3.41 GPA in marketing. An exercise science major with a 3.75 GPA, Burtch swam in eight meets for the Eagles and competed in the 400 IM, 500 free, and 1650 free at the MAC Championships, Feb. 25-28. Burtch won the 500 free and the 1650 free at the EMU Invitational, Dec. 5-6, with season bests of 4:57.32 and 16:54.83, and also won the 1000 free in 10:29.56 against Akron, Oct. 31. The junior placed in the top-four in the 1000 free in six of her seven appearances.

Daniel was honored as the MAC Swimmer of the Week on Feb. 16 after swimming the fifth-fastest 400 IM in program laurels at the OSU Winter Invite, Feb. 14-15, taking second in 4:26.76 and notching personal records of 2:07.03 in the 200 IM and 2:04.42 in the 200 fly. Daniel claimed a top-three finish in the 200 fly three times throughout the season and won the 200 IM against Toledo in a then-personal record of 2:10.24. She boasts a 3.86 GPA in hotel and restaurant management. One of the premier divers in the MAC, Dark competed in eight meets and picked up wins in the 1-meter dive against Toledo, Cincinnati, Nov. 15, and at the EMU Invitational, while she won titles on the 3-meter dive at the EMU Invitational and against Buffalo, Jan. 24. At the MAC Championships, Dark finished runner-up in the 1-meter with 305.65 points and took fifth in the 3-meter dive with 294.50 points. She was the only diver to represent EMU in the finals of both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, March 12-13, placing 14th in the 1-meter dive with 579.75 points and 15th in the 3-meter dive with 576.70 points. Dark was a consistent strength for the Eagles, placing in the top-three in every one of her regular season appearances in the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions. Dark holds a 3.65 GPA in exercise science. Detro had a dominant season in the 200 free during the 2014-15 campaign, winning the event four times and taking second twice throughout eight meets. She also claimed titles in the 100 free against Akron and Ohio. At the MAC Championships, Detro took fourth in the 200 free in 1:50.19, and had the top time out of the prelims in 1:48.85 for the fifth-fastest time in EMU history. Additionally, she competed in the 100 free and 500 free at the conference meet and swam a leg of the runner-up and EMU record-breaking 800 free relay that touched in at 7:15.92. Detro maintains a 3.22 GPA in special eduction, and was named the MAC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 3 after her performances against Ohio in which she won the 100 free in 52.43 seconds and the 200 free in 1:52.24. Dorszewski was the top competitor for the Eagles in the 200 breast, winning in every dual meet that she swam for a total of six victories, while she also claimed four wins in the 100 breast. At the MAC Championships, Dorszewski swam a personal record of 2:14.13 in the 200 breast to finish third in the conference and rank second on EMU's alltime list, and also finished 11th in the 100 breast in 1:02.72 and 14th in the 500 free in 4:56.61. Her prelim time of 4:54.48 in the 500 free is a personal record that ranks seventh in EMU's record book, while her time in the 100 breast is just a half second off her EMU record in the event. The senior swam on the runner-up and EMU record-breaking 800 free relay team as well as the third-place 400 medley relay at the conference meet. Dorszewski holds a 3.51 GPA in speech language pathology. An occupational therapy major with a 3.91 GPA, Garringer swam in eight meets for the Eagles. She competed in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM at the MAC Championships, swimming in the consolation final of the 100 fly to take 15th in a personal record of 56.41 seconds. Garringer finished fourth in the 100 fly in dual action against Toledo, Akron, and Ohio, and won the 200 IM against Wayne State, Jan. 17, in 2:12.32. Ghaffari ended her career at EMU as a Second Team All-MAC honoree, primarily competing in the 50 free and 100 fly throughout her senior campaign. Ghaffari picked up three wins in the 50 free as well as a victory in the 100 fly against Toledo. At the MAC Championships, she took fifth in the 100 free in 50.65 seconds, which ranks sixth on EMU's all-time list, and placed seventh in the 50 free in 23.34 seconds and 11th in the 100 fly in 55.28 seconds. Her mark in the 100 fly is good for fourth on EMU's all-time list and her 50 free prelims mark of 23.16 seconds ranks fifth in the record books. She also swam legs of the third-place 200 medley and 400 free relays as well as the fourthplace 200 free and 400 medley relays. Ghaffari holds a 3.29 GPA in international business. The lone All-MAC First Team honoree, Jackson broke the EMU record in the 100 fly of the prelims of the MAC Championships in 54.47 seconds and became the first Eagle to swim two sub-55s after placing seventh in 54.88 seconds. The sophomore also took third in the 500 free in a career-best 4:51.57 to rank fourth in EMU laurels and also finished fourth in the 200 fly in 1:59.76 for the second-fastest mark in program history. Throughout the regular season, Jackson picked up wins in the 100 and 200 fly on five occasions. Jackson holds a 3.46 GPA in biology and chemistry. Mitcheltree had a breakout sophomore year, as she went from not appearing on the all-time top-10 list for the 100 back to breaking the school record in 54.59 seconds en route to a fifth-place finish at the MAC Championships. She also took eighth in the 200 back in 2:00.22 with a preliminary mark of 1:59.35 that ranks second all-time, and swam her first career 50 free to place 11th at the conference meet in 23.54 seconds, while her prelims mark of 23.47 seconds ranks seventh all-time for EMU. During the regular season, Mitcheltree won the 200 back three times and

placed second thrice, while she won the 100 back twice and finished runner-up four times. She led off for the 200 medley relay lineup in all nine of her meets, which won four times during the season and finished third at the MAC Championships along with the 400 medley relay for which she swam the lead leg. She maintains a 3.63 GPA in exercise science. Saya dove in five meets for the Eagles, placing eighth in the 3-meter dive with 267.40 ponts and 16th in the 1-meter dive with 217.85 points at the MAC Championships. Her highest finish of the season was with a victory in the 3- meter dive against eventual MAC champions Akron with 298.65 points, where she also finished third with 260.25 points. Saya is majoring in exercise science and holds a 3.36 GPA. A hotel and restaurant management major with a 3.73 GPA, Shaw swam in nine meets for the Green and White. She set a personal record of 55.73 seconds in the 100 back at the MAC Championships to finish 10th with a time that ranks fifth on EMU's all-time list, and took 13th in the 200 back in 2:04.29 and also competed in the 200 IM at the conference meet. Shaw claimed runner-up in the 100 back against Buffalo and finished in the top-four in the 100 back six times. Taylor dove in eight meets for the Eagles, finishing sixth in the 3-meter dive with 281.70 points and 10th in the 1- meter dive with 259.30 points at the MAC Championships. Throughout the season, Taylor had four top-three finishes in the 1-meter dive and three in the 3-meter dive, and set a personal record of 275.02 in the 1-meter dive against Wayne State, Jan. 17, to finish second along with a runner-up finish in the 3-meter dive with 282.91 points. Taylor capped off her career at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, competing on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards. She holds a 3.49 GPA in exercise science. Van Allen swam in seven meets for the Green and White and boasts a 3.81 GPA in occupational therapy. The sophomore won the 500 free four times and finished runner-up twice during the regular season. She also picked up two wins in the 200 free along with four second-place finishes. At the MAC Championships, Van Allen swam in the consolation finals of the 200 and 1650 free, taking 14th in the 1650 free in 17:04.59 as well as 1:51.32 in the 200 free. She also competed in the 500 free and swam on the EMU record-breaking 800 free relay. Wagner caps off the list of Eagles on the Academic All-MAC list as an exercise science major with a 3.91 GPA. Wagner won the consolation final of the 50 free at the MAC Championships in 23.29 seconds, ranking sixth on EMU's all-time list, and finished 12th in the 100 free in a personal record of 51.11 seconds for the ninth-best mark in program laurels. Wagner also competed in the 200 free and swam legs of the third-place 400 free and fourth-place 200 free relays.
