GP Wheelers XC all-ages club race 3:00 pm Location: Wapiti Nordic Ski Centre, Township Road 704 south of Grande Prairie Race Contact: Tyler Stadnek Tylers16@telus.net 780-228-0452 Cancellation & Updates: For race updates see www. and the club s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/1411656285747163/. In the event of extreme weather the race will be postponed until later in the day, or re-scheduled for June 16, 2018. Visit the registration table for the latest news on race day. Parking: Please do not park directly in front of the lodge, as this is reserved for paramedical access and race organizers who are moving equipment. There is a parking lot outside the lodge gates, and another just north of the lodge across the road near the biathlon tower. Facilities: Outhouses are available just to the side of the lodge, and more across the road at the biathlon stadium. There will be no access to the inside of the lodge. There is 1

no running water or food at the facility. Bring all your own supplies. The registration and sign-on table will be on the lodge deck. Leave no trace. Medical: The nearest hospital is the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie, 14 km (17 min drive) away. For emergency services dial 911. First aiders and a first aid kit will be onsite. There will not be an ambulance or paramedical team onsite. We need more volunteers, so if you or someone you know can help out please contact us. 2

Trailblazers Trailblazers are riders of all abilities under the age of 17. The Trailblazers event will follow the general format detailed at http://www.albertabicycle.ab.ca/trailblazers. Start Time: 12:00 pm. Be at the start line ready to race by 11:55 am. On-site registration: 10:45 am 12:15 pm at the lodge. We recommend filling out an Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA) waiver and race registration sheet prior to arriving on race day. This will save time. Copies of those forms are at the end of this Tech Package. Waivers can also be found at http:///pdf/youthwaiver2017.pdf. You must register with a parent or legal guardian to receive your race plate at the registration table. If a parent/guardian is not able to attend that racer may present a current ABA waiver dated and signed by the parent/guardian. Race Fees: $2 for all riders on the short loop. $10 for racers on the big loop course. Cash only. Exact change. Warm-up & Pre-riding: Both short loop and big loop courses will be marked by 12 pm the day before the race. On race day, the short loop course, which includes the grassy field below the lodge will be closed for racing from 11:55-12:40. The big loop course will be closed for racing from 12:40-2:30pm, and from 3:00-5:00pm. The north trails across the road will be open for warming up all day. When training or pre-riding at the facility we recommend you carry a cell phone and bear spray. Course: A 420-meter short loop will be used for Trailblazers around ages 10 and under. It will be located on the grassy field and surrounding trails below the lodge. The short loop is the flattest track of the day. It will have non-technical terrain and no single-track sections. It is designed for young riders who have not yet established basic mountain biking skills. It enables easy viewing of the race by spectators. There is opportunity to choose how many laps you wish to race. We will help to categorize kids appropriately at the registration and sign-on table. 3

Only advanced Trailblazers with trail riding experience will be permitted to race on the big loop course. Organizers expect to move these more advanced racers to the 12:45 start time on a case-by-case basis. The big loop has technical terrain, sharp turns, fast descents, steep climbs and longer distances typical of XCO racing. The Feed/Tech Zone will be near the start/finish lines. Laps/Estimated Win Time on the short loop, subject to change by organizers: 1. 1 lap / 10 minutes Striders and tricycles, 3-6 year olds 2. 2 laps / 10-15 minutes Little Rippers, recommended ages 8 and under 3. 4 laps / < 25 minutes Knarly, recommended ages 9-12 and experienced 6-8 year olds Rules: Striders, tricycles and pedal bikes are permitted in the Trailblazers event. Crosscountry mountain bike helmets are mandatory. Eye protection is highly recommended. Gloves are also recommended. Bring your own mosquito repellent, water, food and sunscreen. Be careful not to crash into other riders. Listen to the race officials. Stay on the marked course while racing. Trailblazers who have not started their last lap 25 minutes into racing may finish off their current lap but will not be permitted to start their next one. All riders, including those that Do Not Start (DNS), Did Not Finish (DNF), or those Disqualified (DQ) must present to finish line officials to be accounted for. Do not abandon the race without letting the finish line officials know, as it causes us to send out a search party looking for you. Littering or unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. Leave no trace. Treat the volunteers kindly and respect the facility. Please do not bring your pet to the race. No off-leash pets are permitted on the grounds. Parents are welcome to assist their children at the start line. A few parent volunteers will be allowed to lead or follow the children on course. Please let the organizers know if you would like to do that. 4
