Colonial Carriage & Driving Society Presents The 20th Annual ORLETON FARM Super Derby, Combined Test, Cross Country Pleasure Drive and Pleasure Driving Show THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY JUNE 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2018

Dear Exhibitors and Friends, Welcome to Colonial Carriage & Driving Society s 20th Annual Pleasure Driving Show. Colonial Carriage & Driving Society and Orleton Farm are proud to play a part in promoting the history and tradition of pleasure driving here in the Berkshire Hills. The Berkshires had great history in the gilded age with the large estates and wonderful carriage houses as the place to come and be seen driving your horse and carriage. Harvey and Mary make their home at Orleton Farm, which has been in Mary s family since 1900 and has always been a horse facility. The grounds have become home to Colonial Carriage for its many events held here throughout the year: sleigh rallies, clinics, fun day, club meetings, and the pleasure show. The show started 20 years ago at famous sculptor Daniel Chester French s home, Chesterwood, in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The show continued there for three years, with the number of exhibitors and spectators increasing each year. The need for more space prompted the show to move to Eden Hill, one of Stockbridge s great estates. In 2006, with the desire to add more classes, the show expanded to a two-day show and moved to Orleton Farm. A third day was added in 2011, expanding the show with more classes and divisions for our exhibitors. The Orleton Farm Pleasure Driving Show, Combined Test and Super Derby is a unique event, in 2016 the event expanded to a four day event to further accommodate the increasing interest in this venue. We continue that format in 2018. There are classes and divisions for everyone. The first day offers the Super Derby for VSEs, ponies and horses. Friday offers the traditional Combined Test of dressage and cone classes. Friday will also offer an optional scored Cross Country Pleasure Drive and Super Drive for the exhibitor s choosing to stay over from the Derby for the pleasure show, or exhibitors arriving early in preparation for the pleasure show but not necessarily interested in the Derby. The two-day pleasure driving show 2018 schedule will continue to offer the Utility Vehicle Division, a Park Division and a Picnic Class along with a popular American Heritage class and the Ride and Drive class. We have split the multiples to offer a Tandem Division and Unicorn/Four-in- Hand Division. These classes will bring variety and excitement to the event. 2018 will continue the Maiden Horse/Pony Division and the Trade and Commercial Vehicle Classes. As our show continues to grow, we are dedicated to make your experience the best possible. On Sunday the Gathering of Vintage of Automobiles will be on display. Our stabling opens Tuesday morning, June 5, for those who want to come early. Exhibitors are invited to the Pizza Party Wednesday evening followed by the Exhibitor s Briefing for the Derby on Thursday. Burgers & Beer BBQ, hosted by Orleton Farm, on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM will include presentation of the Derby awards and be followed by the Exhibitor s Briefing for the Combined Test and the Pleasure Drive. On Friday, a wine and cheese party for exhibitors will be held along with the presentation of awards at the end of the day. Saturday night again features the popular buffet BBQ open to exhibitors, family and friends. Please purchase tickets with your entry. The show relies on the friendly volunteers from Colonial Carriage. They are committed to making your show experience the best possible without them, the show would not go on. You can identify our volunteers from their club shirts. They can help with any questions you may have about the show or Colonial Carriage. We also take this opportunity to thank all competitors for participating, sponsors, and advertisers for their support, and all spectators for coming. The multi-day show schedule comes with certain financial risk for Colonial Carriage. Entry fees and other showing fees alone do not cover the cost of the running the show. Please consider being a sponsor or program advertiser as you fill out your entry form or consider visiting the show. With your financial support, the show will continue to grow and enhance your showing experience in the future. We urge you to make your motel reservations early as there are other events in town on our show weekend dates. We hope you enjoy your weekend at Orleton Farm and wish you all a safe and successful show. Harvey and Mary Stokes Waller Colonial Carriage & Driving Society 2

COLONIAL CARRIAGE & DRIVING SOCIETY WELCOMES YOU AND INVITES YOUR SUPPORT We hope your journey to the 20th Orleton Farm Pleasure Driving Show will be a pleasant one and that you and your friends will enjoy the weekend filled with diverse driving classes and social events. You will begin to experience the history and tradition of carriage driving in the Berkshires. As you drive up Prospect Hill from the Red Lion Inn, which was a coaching inn and tavern established c. 1873, you will pass several of the former summer cottages of the late 19th century including Bonnie Brae (now the Shrine of the Divine Mercy), Naumkeag (a Choate family residence), Oronoque and you will shortly arrive at your destination: Orleton Farm. Upon passing through the entrance of the Farm, you will marvel at the beautiful grounds and pageantry of the horse show and surrounding activities. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for preserving the tradition of pleasure carriage driving by attending the show.
