Warrior Wave 1. The More (yellow bricks) the Merrier! Congratulations to Davis Schmit for being the first Water Warrior to complete the yellow brick challenge this season! We are coming to a close for our in-season meets so hopefully everyone will use each and every opportunity to #BeBetter. Our team has already achieved 101 bricks out of a possible 184! It looks like the boys have sprinted their way to faster times in the shorter events but need to show some endurance in the 500 Free. While the girls have sped up in the 50 and Back but need to get stronger in the 200s. Here are the swimmers who have already achieved yellow bricks by swimming faster times in events this season: 8 bricks DAVIS SCHMIT 7 bricks Sophie Borgerding, Lily Toman, Bryce Kennedy 6 bricks Nick McCarthy, Jackson Comer, Catherine Geary, Ian Mikesell, Kate Overbey 5 bricks Celia Caeser, Katerina DeCamp, Gabe Hartnett, Kate McIntosh, Lainey Newman 4 bricks Sydney Irwin 3 bricks Cameron Cumming, Brooke Woellert, Cora Dupre 2 bricks Molly Sharp 1 brick Erin Kelly, Ellie Lewis Special note: Every single Freshman, although not eligible for yellow bricks since it is their first season as a Water Warrior, has dropped time in numerous events over the course of the season thus far (it must be all of that new training they are pushing themselves through)! Special shout out to Grace Bohl and Will Fahnestock for continuing to drop time in all events pretty much every time they jump in the water!!! Congrats to Jonah Mikesell for breaking the 1:00 barrier in the 100 Free during a time trial at practice!

This Week s Events Monday: Practice 3:45-6:00 Tuesday: Meet @ Turpin (canned food drive) Wednesday: Practice 3:45-6:00 Thursday: Practice 3:30-6:00 (yoga) Friday: Meet @ home (Senior Night) Team Dinner following the meet 3. Tuesday, January 23 rd Away meet @ Turpin High School Lower Bus Turnaround: 5:30 p.m. Warm Ups: 6:25 p.m. Meet: 7:00 p.m. A reminder to all swimmers that we travel as ONE team in our travel outfits (warm-ups, parkas, team bags) and each team member should check to make sure they have their team suit, NEW team cap, and goggles prior to departure. All swimmers stay on deck until after the tower building challenge is completed (see note below). Swimmers may go home with their own families once they are signed out on Kevin s clip board. 4. Canned Food Drive for Turpin Meet Once again, both teams will be collecting canned/nonperishable food to donate to a local food pantry in honor of The 8 Days of Gr8ness program. At the conclusion of the meet, both squads will build a creative tower using the food items that were donated. Hopefully, Mariemont has plenty of items to use and some imaginative ideas to make an impressive display and take the win this year! This is the 3 rd year our teams have participated in this wonderful cause. So look through your pantry or visit your local grocery store to donate these much needed items.
5. Friday, January 26 th Home meet vs. Bellbrook On Deck: 4:00 p.m. Meet: 5:30 p.m. Diving will follow swimming (around 7:15ish) Team dinner in the Commons following the meet This is the first ever meet between our 2 teams! We usually see Bellbrook at our Goodwill Dinner up in Canton and they have recently joined in on the fun of dressing up. Get ready for some FAST swimming because some pool records might go down in our last meet of the season in our natatorium. We will honor our 6 seniors during the break between the 50 Free and the 100 Fly. Senior parents will meet their babies at the turn end of the pool and process toward the starting end as the crowd cheers. Both teams will enjoy dinner together in the Commons following the meet. Thank you to the Juniors and their families for providing the food and party supplies! 6. Sectional Entries It has come to the part of the season when I have to make the decision as to which swimmers will be swimming which events during the tournament season. If a swimmer has not already spoken to Kevin about which events he/she would like to swim, you are strongly encouraged to do so ASAP. I will take into consideration each swimmer s wishes, but ultimately I need to do what is best for the team and will score the most points. All boys will make the Sectional line up and will either taper for Sectionals, Districts or State. Unfortunately, each school is limited to only 4 entries per event at Sectionals. This means some girls will have their final races at the CHL Championships. Kevin will inform the girls this week as to whether they are tapering for CHLs, Sectionals, Districts or State. This is not a decision that is taken lightly and several factors go into the decision but the main one is the four fastest times in each event. That is why I provide all swimmers with opportunities to swim each event and encourage putting forth your best effort every time you dive in the water.
7. Speed Suits If you are interested in purchasing a speed suit for the Championship season you might want to consider purchasing one from Swimville USA. The phone number is (859) 441-7946 and you ll want to tell them that you are with Mariemont High School. That is the swim shop that provided our team suits this season. Because of that, they are offering Mariemont High School swimmers special discount pricing! These are wonderful discounts!!! Please remember that when representing Mariemont we only wear either black or blue speed suits. I know there are other fancy, more colorful choices out there, but it is important to me that we look like a team as best we can. Here is a chart of various suits and pricing. In my opinion, the best suits have been the LZR Elites. The LZR X are good but sometimes are difficult to fit and tend to be the most expensive. Kevin has a collection of speed suits that may be borrowed if a swimmer does not wish to purchase their own suit. However, they are not new and have been worn several times. If you have any questions, please take a moment and contact Coach Kevin. 2017-18 Speedo Sponsored OH HS Champ Suit Pricing LZR X Female LZR X Open Back $288 Female LZR X Closed Back $294 Male LZR X Regular Waist $210 Male LZR X High Waist $216 LZR ELITE 2 Female LZR Elite 2 Comfort Strap (CS) Kneeskin $258 Female LZR Elite 2 Closed Back CS Kneeskin $270 Male LZR Elite 2 Jammer $180
