A. GATEWAY GOLF PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARD NOMINATION Name of Nominee: Jeffrey B. Field Years as a PGA Professional: Seven (7) Facility Name: Fox Run Golf Club Facility Address: 1 Putt Lane, Eureka, Missouri 63025 Facility Phone Number: 636.938.4653 Nominee E-mail Address: jeffrey _field@pga.com The nomination form should be typewritten. 1. Please briefly describe your position and responsibility at the facility where you work. My position at Fox Run Golf Club is as the PGA Head Golf Professional. The membership of the Club is comprised of thirteen (13) Honorary Members, twentyeight (28) Non Resident Members and one hundred ninety-six (196) Regular, Corporate and JuniorMembers. In the year 2009, there were approximately 13,000 rounds of golf played. The Club is on pace to accommodate a similar number in 2010. As the PGA Head Golf Professional, the responsibilities of my position include, but are not limited to supervising two Assistant Golf Professionals, the Golf Services Personnel, Locker Room Manager and managing day-to-day Golf Operations. My responsibilities also include the coordination of a yearly tournament calendar for members, as well as, outside events for the Club. I am responsible for the marketing and recruitment of new members to the Club. I also serve as a liaison between the Ownership and the Membership. This is an essential role since the Club is owned by one individual.

My position also requires me to maintain a respectable proficiency in the game of golf and have a sound lesson program for the membership. To coincide with this lesson program, I am responsible for extensive club fitting and equipment analysis. There is no greater feeling than watching a student progress through a structured season long program. Their commitment to learning pushes me to improve and work on my game. My position affords me the opportunity to own the Golf Shop as an LLC and operate it on the Mill River Buy-In Plan. The buying plan under my ownership requires close attention to the budgetary process and fiscal responsibility. Attending the annual PGA Merchandising Show has led to a restructuring of the buying plan and increasing shop sales while furthering my education and networking abilities. 2. Please briefly describe your philosophy as it relates to being a PGA Professional? My philosophy as it relates to being a PGA Professional is having the ability to deal with a multitude of personalities and thought processes with the clientele and staff that a PGA Professional deals with on a daily basis. Also, a PGA Professional must multi-task at all times and have the ability to adapt to any given situation at their respective place of employment. These are traits that the younger generation of aspiring golf professionals is having a difficult time grasping and are essential to becoming a qualified PGA ProfessionaL My philosophy also incorporates the ideals that a PGA Professional must teach and play the game of golf with a high level of proficiency. We are entrusted as being the stewards of the game at our facilities and must keep our clientele learning and playing the game. This also translates into growing the game of golf with anyone interested in pursuing it as an activity. A PGA Professional should also be able serve the Section in which they are affiliated. Being involved and participating in the sponsored events of the Section speaks volumes of your dedication to the profession. Whether it is participating in every golf tournament or volunteering your time to teach the game, every effort shows your commitment to being a PGA ProfessionaL 3. Please briefly describe the qualities that separate you as a professional? The qualities that are immediately important to me and separate me as a PGA Professional are having strong verbal and written communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively with others in these two forms is vital to being successful in this profession. I pride myself on having strong interpersonal skills and the ability to actively listen to others, maintain a positive attitude, find solutions to problems in a timely manner and delegate effectively. 2

Another quality that separates me is having attention to detail at all times while at Fox Run Golf Club. Being a PGA Professional requires the ability to be aware of your surroundings and happenings at all times, while having the foresight to know when to get involved and when to abstain from situations. The final quality that separates me as a PGA Professional is my love of the game and business. I care deeply about serving the members, guests and Ownership on a daily basis. The game of golf and business is truly an addiction that caught me at an early age. 4. What is your favorite thing about being a PGA Professional? My favorite thing about being a PGA Professional is being a part of this glorious game on a daily basis and all the activities associated with it. I get to be in an environment everyday that most people wish they could be doing a minimum of one time a week. My worst days at work are usually better that someone else's best day at their work. The interaction that I am able to have with the members and guests on a daily basis adds to the value of this profession. The excitement that a student exudes after shooting their best round or a member telling me about their improvement after a lesson with an Assistant Golf Professional is very satisfying. 5. Please briefly describe the expectations you have for your staff and your operation. My expectations for my staff are very high and often tough to live up to. With that being said, part of growing as a PGA Apprentice or PGA Professional requires making mistakes along the way and learning from them. Please find below some expectations that I have for my golf professional staff; Professional Appearance - Clean, pressed clothes and shined shoes are not an exception, they are a requirement. Learn the ins and outs of ironing and find a great dry cleaner. Learn to shine your shoes and be the best at it. Professional appearance also applies to personal grooming. We should be cleanly shaven each day and maintain a quality haircut at all times. Part of the professional image is also maintaining clean and new golf equipment. Punctuality - This golf shop is a world class business. World class businesses keep scheduled hours of operation and accommodate the customer accordingly. Punctuality is important in operating the Golf Shop, scheduling golf lessons, attending meetings, and running golf tournaments. Punctuality 3

in all of our endeavors is a direct reflection on our dedication to providing exceptional service. Respect - Every staff member will be treated fairly, professionally, and intelligently. I ask that you treat each other the same way. The members and guests of the Club should be held in the highest regard. Integrity - Every staff member is expected to treat all customers fairly in business deals. The adherence to moral and ethical principles is essential in this business. Honesty - This is the single most important factor in dealing with everyone in this golf operation. There is no compromise when it comes to honesty. Pride - Every staff member is expected to take pride in everything they do while at work. It will show that you care and have a vested interest in the final outcome. Dedication - Every staff member is expected to give their best while at work. Do your best and you will know at the end of the day the rewards for working hard. Camaraderie - Let's always be cheerful and courteous to everyone who visits our golf operation. Greet members, guests, and fellow employees cheerfully as soon as they enter the Golf Shop. Come out from behind the counter to meet them, shake their hand, and find out what you can do for them. People respond positively to enthusiasm and warmth. Project yourself and the golf operation positively. Finally, but most importantly, I expect all aspiring PGA Professionals to value what the PGA of America stands for and what the forefathers within the association experienced to develop the rich history of the PGA of America. 6.
