The Commish Corner Spring 2014 / Week 6 Fan Cam! Summary! 19+ Flying Squirrels lose! No team is undefeated anymore! This division is tight, with a number of teams with the ability to win it all but who will?! Only time will tell! The Senators are now at the top with a 7-1 record, but the Flying Squirrels and Hurricanes in hot pursuit! 30+ Surprising expansion Eagles at the top! Wow, the Eagles are for real! They are tied with the Expos, but beat them head-to-head to currently hold the #1 spot! The playoffs are around the corner! But first, this weekend, with one play-in game in 30+ then the fun begins with the quarterfinals next week! Get ready!
Legend of the Week Chris Sia (Eagles)! Chris provided the spark for a comeback over the River Bandits with a homer on Sunday. He also legged out a base hit in the 8th to keep the game winning rally going. Chris is batting.600 for the year with the homer and a double, and an OBP of.650 that makes him a constant threat for opposing pitchers.
Team Game Summaries 19+ Division The Flying Squirrels Yikes, we lost our first game! Too depressed to write anything, sorry! The Senators Solid game for the Senators, great pitching from the starter Andrew Chaconas, dealing 5 inning of shutout pitching with only two hits and 6 K's. The Nationals were held scoreless till the 6th. When they put one run on the board, and put another 4 across the plate in the 7th, But then closer Joel Himan shut them down, striking out the side, to end the game in the top of the 8th(time limit). Round two starts next week again at Leitch 3:40 start. The Hurricanes Serving notice in the 19+ Division that any of the top four teams are contenders for the Championship on "any given Sunday", the Canes show up with the pitching, gloves and bats to leave the League with one less undefeated team! On a perfect day for baseball, the Canes and Squirrels battled back-and-forth through four lead changes using three pitchers each, in one of the best Legends games this season. However it was the Hurricanes combination of new pitchers (Alan Oberheim, Nick Atwell and David Kellmel), defense and timely hitting (John Dean 3-for- 3, 3 RBI; Nick Dean, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs; Josh Hauserman, 2-for-3, 1 RBI; Alan Oberheim, 2-for- 4; 3 runs scored) that was just good enough this Sunday to get the job done and hold off more than one "Squirrel-time" rally, including a final inning nailbiter. Congrats to David Kellmel who earned his first W on the mound (4 IP, 4 strikeouts) and to Legends rookies Joe Riley-Ryan and Nick Atwell who joined our team in May! The Nationals The River Bandits The Bison The Mavericks
30+ Division The Redlegs (30+) The Redlegs extend their winning streak to 2 with a 24 run outburst! Multi-hit batters included Gorman (4), Howell, Huntley, Robison, Taveras (3), and Cortese, Lytle (2). Can they continue this weekend against their long-time rivals, the Cards? The Eagles (30+) The Skipper was away coaching her women's travel team over the Memorial Day holiday but the Eagles carried on powered by a homer by Chris Sia to squeeze by the River Bandits Sunday at Leitch Park. It looks like again it was a total team effort as has been the case this season. The top of the order started the game off with 4 runs kicked off by our consistent lead off hitter Dom Tripodi, and then a game winning rally started by Carlos Torres and Jesus Aguero in the 8th. Here is the edited game report by Dom DiFatta, a team captain: "Final score 11-8 Eagles win, Eagles win, Eagles win! Fisher House gets a few more runs home also! Chris Sia went yard that got us back in the game in the 7th inning. This game was a nail biter, but we kept our team composure and finished on top. This game could've gone either way, but hard work and hustle wins games. The River Bandits pitchers gave us trouble catching up to the speed." =================================================================== The Generals The Isotopes The Cardinals The Expos The Pirates (30+) The Padres The Rebels (30+)
