Friend SUPPLEMENTARY STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORT Ballina Jockey Club, BALLINA RACECOURSE, Monday 6 November 2017 RACE 6: Class 1 Handicap 1000m: Brandy Balloon Apprentice Ms M. Nakao (Eagle Stryke) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, under AR137(a), in that rounding the first turn she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Brandy Balloon which was steadied and clipped her mounts heels. Ms Nakao s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 12 November 2017 and to expire on Saturday 18 November 2017, on which day she may ride. RACE 1: Benchmark 59 Handicap 1600m: Call Us Primi Overraced between the 1400m and 1300m. Desert Rush Laid out under pressure over the final 300m. The racing manners of the filly were brought to the attention of its trainer Mr D. Kelly. A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Kermandie Star Overraced rounding the first turn. Inclined to overrace in the middle stages. Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. At the entrance to the straight was obliged to ease out around heels to continue to improve. Zuccerina The mares rider, apprentice D. Jung, was struck on the right arm by a competing riders whip on a number of occasions over the final 200m. RACE 2: C,G&E Maiden Plate 1100m: Comm And Cents Slow to begin. Hidden Storm Began awkwardly. Night Manager Slow to begin. 1
Noble Thought Slow to begin and eased when tightened between runners shortly after. Inclined to lay out down the straight. Renewing Hope Bumped on the hindquarter shortly after the start. Near the 900m was steadied from the heels of Hidden Storm which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey Ms C. Schmidt (Hidden Storm) was issued a reprimand (AR137(a)). Overraced between the 900m and 500m. There s Always One Raced wide in the early and middle stages. RACE 3: F&M Maiden Plate 1100m: Belle s Command Eased when racing in restricted room near the 800m. Inclined to overrace in the middle stages. Unable to improve between the 500m and 400m when held up on heels. Bumped and unbalanced approaching the 100m. Call Her Magic Near the 900m was steadied from the heels of Green Cash which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey M. McGuren (Green Cash) was issued a reprimand (AR137(a)). Shifted out and bumped another runner approaching the 100m. Cosmic View Ran out on jumping. Eased after improving onto heels near the 600m. Just a Dame Bumped on the hindquarter and unbalanced on jumping. Bumped passing the 700m. Love Time Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Natural Image Laid out and bumped another runner passing the 700m. Laid out in the middle stages. Approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run and was unable to improve until shifting out around heels passing the 200m. Laid out over the final 150m. Poet s Edition Laid in and bumped another runner on jumping. Jockey J. Taylor will be interviewed regarding his whip use prior the 100m at a date to be fixed. Stella Thief Buffeted between runners on jumping. Laid in in the early stages. Raced wide in the middle stages. RACE 4: Class 3 Handicap 1000m: Beyond Hollywood Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. Carried wide on the track passing the 700m. Raced wide in the middle stages. Hung out rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have a tendon injury to the off fore leg. Trainer Mr D. Chujo was advised that the gelding is required to barrier trial prior to its next race start and before such trial requires a veterinary certificate of fitness, including a scan of the tendon. 2
Bierbower Commenced to pull approaching the 800m and was checked severely after pulling its way up onto heels passing the 700m. Threw its head and raced greenly from this point until passing the 600m. Barrier attendant Mr D. Fisher reported that he injured the ring finger of his right hand whilst loading the gelding into the barriers. Duty Dude Passing the 700m was steadied after improving onto heels. Go the Gantry Blundered on jumping and bumped shortly after. Carried wide on the track passing the 700m. Raced wide in the middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey Ms C. Dougherty stated that her mount was down in distance today and settled in a handy position. Ms Dougherty stated that the pace of the event slackened in the middle stages and when the leader sprinted rounding the home turn her mount was unable to sprint with it and just ground its way to the line. When questioned, trainer Mr A. Parramore stated that, at this stage of its preparation, he is of the opinion that the gelding is looking for more ground and he will step it up in distance next race start. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Super Shoes Slow to begin and steadied from heels shortly after. RACE 5: Maiden Handicap 1700m: Clearfield (NZ) Eased when tightened for room passing the 600m. Faith in Beers Slow to begin. Inclined to overrace in the early stages. King of Monaco Bumped shortly after the start. Approaching the 1100m was checked after improving into insufficient racing room. Inclined to overrace in the middle stages. Unable to be fully tested over the final 100m when held up on heels. Mister Maker Declared a late scratching by order of stewards, acting on veterinary advice, at 4.27pm after the gelding was found to be lame in the near fore leg. Stewards ordered that all wagers on the gelding be refunded and that all successful wagers placed with bookmakers prior to 4.27pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket, 4 cents the win and 4 cents the place for 1st (Penny Fling), 7 cents the place for 2nd (Cadeyrn) and 5 cents the place for 3 rd (Saint Element). Trainer Mrs C. Inwood was advised that the gelding requires a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to its next race start. My Cousin Shirley Slow to begin. Shifted out abruptly near the 200m. Oakland Actress Laid in between the entrance to the straight and 200m. Option Trader (NZ) Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Hung in severely over the final 800m. Trainer Mr D. Edwards was advised that the gelding is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. Penny Fling Laid in down the straight. 3
Saint Element Slow to begin. Inclined to pull in the early stages. Sunsout Shirtsoff Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Tough One Began awkwardly. RACE 6: Benchmark 58 Handicap 1200m: Against the Clock Slow to begin. Jillies Jet Bounded on jumping. Unable to be tested over the final 50m when held up on heels. Magic Beneteau Passing the 1000m was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of Bluemoon Dream after laying in away from Onemoretwoless which shifted in abruptly. Ministry of Fear Laid in down the straight and proved difficult to ride with full vigour. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Murdaress Hampered on jumping. Apprentice Ms M. Nakao (Onemoretwoless) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, under AR137(a), in that approaching the 1000m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Murdaress which was checked to avoid her mounts heels. Ms Nakao s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday 18 November 2017 and to expire on Saturday 25 November 2017, on which day she may ride. Onemoretwoless Laid in between the 1100m and 1000m. Overraced passing the 1000m. Silver Skates - Inclined to overrace in the early stages. RACE 7: Open Handicap 1100m: Always Sacred Slow to begin. Blackboard Special Bumped shortly after the start. Laid in approaching the 100m. Devils Pinch Slow to begin. Bumped shortly after the start. Inclined to overrace in the middle stages. Emperor of Oz Rounding the home turn was steadied after improving onto the heels. Media Maid Began awkwardly. Eased when tightened for room near the 800m. At the entrance to the straight commenced to weakened and approaching the 200m commenced to stumble, at which time its rider Ms C. Graham was dislodged, and fell. A post race veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to 4
have bled severely. Apprentice Ms C. Graham suffered an injury to her left wrist and was taken to Grafton Base Hospital for further assessment. Media Maid was treated by the race club veterinarian and recovered. Trainer Mr B. Hill was advised that as this is the second time Media Maid has bled from both nostrils she is ineligible to race again (AR53A). Mishani Honcho Jockey D. Edmonds was fined $300 for returning to scale at 56.5kg, in excess of 1/2kg over his mounts declared weight of 55.5kg (AR145). Upstart At the entrance to the straight was checked and shifted in abruptly to avoid heels. RACE 8: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1400m: Jemily As apprentice Ms C. Graham was injured stewards permitted Ms M. Nakao to replace her as the rider of the mare. Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. My Boy Louie Eased when momentarily tightened for room near the 800m. WHIP OFFENCES: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii)). Race Rider (Horse) 2 Ms C.
