Welcome to the Audi Club Golden Gate Chapter Happy New Year. Thank you for registering for the 2016 Winter Driving event at Thunderhill Raceway Park. This is the Audi Club Golden Gate Chapter's first High Precision Driving Event and Safety School of the year, which takes place January 8-10th, 2016. Please note that this is not a racing school! The purpose of the event is to improve your driving skills, while you learn more about your car s (and your) capabilities. We organize events like this with the goals that our members become safer and more skilled drivers and that they enjoy, and take advantage of being part of a group of Audi enthusiasts who celebrate the brand, and its history. Ensuring that we maintain the highest safety standards throughout the entire event is our highest priority. Please take a few moments to look through this material. We've included directions to the Thunderhill Raceway Park and the Holiday Inn Express in Willows CA. In addition, we ve included a preliminary schedule for the weekend and links for you to download documents, which are required for participation including the Technical Review and Medical Forms. Please download, print and complete these forms and bring them with you to the event. Your car must pass a technical inspection in order for you to take it on the track. We strongly recommend that, prior to the event, all students have their cars inspected by a qualified mechanic who should complete our Technical Review Form. A list of sponsors who provide FREE technical inspections at their facilities is included with this letter. We also will have staff available to perform a Technical Inspection when you arrive on Friday afternoon and early on Saturday morning as well. Please note: if it is determined during the inspection that your car is not safe to drive on track, it will have to be remedied before we can allow you to go on the track. This is why we urge you to have the inspection done prior to the event so that you have time to deal with any safety issues. It is your responsibility to assure your car is safe. Over the course of the event, we will share information with you by requiring that you attend a number of meetings, which address different domains of knowledge and skill. For safety reasons, attendance at these meetings and classroom sessions is mandatory for all students! Audi Club Of North America Driver/Safety School Preparation Tips An Audi Car Club of North America Driver/Safety School is designed to allow you to learn safe driving techniques and to experience the performance potential of your automobile in a controlled environment. Following are some simple tips for preparing yourself and your car. HELMET - All participants must wear a helmet, either full or open face. Helmets must be rated SA or M2005, SA or M2010 or SA2015 and must have a sticker on the inside that indicates the rating. If you do not own a helmet which meets these requirements you may rent one from us during registration or you should make arrangements to purchase one prior to the event. We cannot guarantee there will be sufficient helmets available to rent at registration. RESTRAINTS Wearing of seat belts by driver and passengers in each car is mandatory. Factory seat belts are fine. If you have installed aftermarket harnesses, equal restraints must be provided for both the passenger and the driver. For example, harnesses with 4-, 5-, or 6-point mounts used by the driver, must also be provided for the front seat passenger. OPEN TOP CARS - Convertibles are only allowed if they have a four-point cage installed. In addition, the "Broomstick" rule is in effect. There must be two inches (2") of clearance between the helmeted head of the driver & instructor and a "virtual broomstick" that is resting on the header across to the top of the roll hoops. If there is less than two inches of clearance, the car cannot be used at this event. MISCELLANEOUS - We suggest that you bring a weather-tight plastic tote or large storage box and a small tarpaulin (6 x6 ) or similar to keep your items safe and dry during the event. Also, it s a good idea to bring glass/window cleaner, paper towels and/or rags, a spare quart of oil and a good tire pressure gauge. WHEELS AND TIRES - Check for sufficient tread. You must have at least 3/32nds or more. No cord can be visible. Speed rating of the tire must match or exceed the maximum speed of your car. All tires must be DOT approved. Patched tires are not safe for track use. If in doubt, get new tires.
