V O L U M E 6, I S S U E 2 P A G E 3 In student council, we are trying to find more fundraisers to participate in. Secret Santa candy cane sales went on from December 10th December 13th. They have been delivered out on December 19th. Student council has elected a president. The president election came into a tie. The tie is between Sarah Franz and Sam Stebnitz. The vice president is Caden Reece. The secretary is Addy Gahart. Congratulations! We had a holiday spirit week from December 16th December 20th. On Monday we had a red and green day. Tuesday it was ugly sweater day. Wednesday was elf day and Thursday was wear your favorite Christmas t-shirt. Friday was wear Santa hats and red and green socks. That s all we have for updates. Thanks and read the updates next month. By Alexis Schliepp Sarah Franz Sam Stebnitz Caden Reece Addy Gahart

V O L U M E 6, I S S U E 2 P A G E 7 On November 20th, 16 year old Malala Yousafzai earned the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. Yousafzai earned the award in Strausburg, France and plans to spend her 67,000 dollars for helping educate children in her native country of Pakistan. She earned the award for being a survivor of the Taliban assassination attempt. Nelson Mandela, age 95 died on December 5th of a lung infection. Mandela, a civil rights leader and later the president of South Africa, fought for equality for blacks in South Africa. In 1964, Mandela got sent to jail for 27 long years for encouraging blacks to go on strike and for leaving South Africa without a passport. Cyril Ramaphosa said, He was one of the greatest leaders of the world. It was true. Thousands attended Mandela s funeral and they had to use the soccer stadium to hold all of the people.

P A G E 8 By Ben Brauer Ho, ho, ho! Go Prancer, and Dixon, and-- oh, umm you re already here. Yay. Okay, today I am going to interview two friends in 6th grade, one from purple team and one from gold team about this years sledding trip. Oh, and that stuff you heard me say earlier- about the reindeer- let s just keep that between you and me. Nothing personal. But anyway, back to the sledding trip. I will be interviewing myself, a purple team student, and Colton Meuret, a gold team student. During the sledding trip, we will be timing students rushing down the hill in inner tubes. The event will be at Sunburst Ski Resort on January 17, 2014. Alright, lets interview Colton. Colton: I think this field trip is going to be really fun (you know, once I learn what tubing is). Sledding is something I love to do in the winter. The bigger the hill the better, and I hear this hill is so big that you have to take a lift to get to the top.the best part about this trip is I get to go with my friends, especially my friends on the purple team because I don't get to see them much during the school day. P.S. Ben Brauer is awesome!!!! I did not write the P.S. or ANYTHING. That was all Colton. Okay, time to hear what I have to say. I think that this trip is going to be be awesome! I especially am excited about seeing my friends from gold AND purple team. I think that everyone will ride on rainbow ponies and eat gumdrops and- sorry got carried away. So anyway this is Colton s and my opinion about the trip. Alrighty then, go Dixon and Prancer and every other reindeer. WAHOO!!!!! E L K E X P R E S S
