MARATHON RELAY CHALLENGE 2018 Each relay team will have one allocated parking space at Bond Estates, MK1 1SW. Please display the parking permit in your windscreen. There will be a 10 minute walk to the StadiumMK. When you get to the StadiumMK go to the Pre-Function Bar via Gate 7 to the stadium concourse. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE HOTEL ENTRANCE. There will be marshals to direct you. The relay team briefing will be at 09:00. Allow plenty of time as the roads around the stadium will be congested from early in the morning. You will be given your Runner Numbers, pins and Baton at the briefing. It is important that all team members attend. These are areas where there are more robust measures in place to manage the waste. We ask you to use the drop zone after each water station in order to be considerate to other runners, and local residents. If you carry your bottle/gel wrapper beyond the drop zone, please keep hold of it until you either reach the next drop zone or a marshal. Please make sure you have your Team Parking Permit with you. PARKING SAT NAV POSTCODE: MK1 1SW HEADPHONES We hold this race under British / UK Athletics road race rules and regulations. From 1 April 2016 a new rule regarding the wearing of head phones in road races was introduced into the 2016-2018 edition of the UKA Rules of Competition. UKA have agreed that the use of bone conductor type headphones is acceptable, but NO OTHER types of headphones/earphones but these will be allowed. Anyone seen wearing headphones/earphones (excluding bone conductor headphones) will be asked to remove them and may be disqualified from the race. Sorry, we know it is not fun but your safety means more to us. BARR GOLD STATUS The MK Marathon has been awarded the British Association of Road Races (BARR) Gold Status for the highest standards of race organisation and provision. In simpler terms this means that Team MK put on a great race and runner safety is their top priority. We want to make sure you have the most enjoyable day possible. TIMING MATS Timing mats will be at mile 6.2, 13.1 and 20. The changeover may be before or after the mat, so please look out for the advance warning signs. Relay runners should allow plenty of time to arrive at the changeover point. TIMING CHIP Your team timing chip will be inside the relay baton. Your team must finish with the baton in order to get a time. Mile markers will be positioned at each mile. Individual chip times will be available via a live web link on www.mkmarathon.com or on the new MK Marathon Weekend smart phone App. Please be aware of any instructions from marshals on the route and be aware of any emergency vehicles that may need to use the route. RELAY 3 START / FINISH MK1 1ST RELAY 2 RELAY 1 WATER STATIONS There will be nine water stations along the course, providing bottles of water. These will be positioned at approximately mile 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 23 & 25. Please note that water stations will not be positioned exactly by the stated mile marker, but there will be Drinks Ahead signs 200m before the water station. SPORTS DRINK Gatorade Sport will be available in cups at the water stations at mile 9, 15 & 21. ENERGY GELS High5 EnergyGels will be available at mile 12 and 18. These will be available just before a water station. These may contain caffeine. MILE MARKERS There will be a mile marker at every mile. Mile markers will be located on the nearest lamp post to the mile point. FIRST AID St John Ambulance will be providing our medical support and there will be First Aid stations at mile 7, 15, 21 & 25 as well as a Rapid Response Car, Emergency Ambulances and Cycle Response Units. Most casualties will be treated at the nearest medical station to them, more serious cases will be transported to the Static First Aid Point at the stadium. In serious cases patients will be transported by ambulance to A&E at Milton Keynes Hospital. If you feel unwell or pick up an injury then you need to get to a water station for transportation back to the start. If you have a serious medical requirement and can not reach a water station then please see one of the course marshals who will request medical assistance. EMERGENCY ACCESS In the unlikely event that an emergency vehicle needs to cross or access the course, we ask you to please stop and not to obstruct them. COURSE TIME LIMIT We have an agreed road closure plan in place, giving you up to 6:30 hours to finish the marathon. This works out at approximately 15 min mile pace. If you do slow down, you may be asked to run as a pedestrian on the pavement observing the Highway Code. We want you to finish the race and the marshals clearing the course will give you every encouragement to do so. PACERS Pace runners will be available for people who are looking to run a specific time. Every 15 minutes from 3:00 to 5:15 RELAY CHANGE POINT
CHANGEOVER POINT 1 (6 MILES) RELAY CHANGE 1 CANAL BRIDGE RELAY 1 ROAD CLOSED THE GREEN CLOSED PARKING MK6 3BS NO PARKING AT THE HOTEL Park in the Ye Olde Swan car park or elsewhere in Newport Road and walk along The Green in the direction of the runners keeping to the left side and being careful not to get in the way. LEG 1 RUNNER: The changeover point is at The Green and just after crossing the canal bridge. Look out for the warning signs 200m before the change. Pass the baton on to the next runner in your team. LEG 2 RUNNER: After you have received the baton join the race showing consideration to other runners. Continue to the next relay point at the half way point. Turn right at Netherfield roundabout onto A421, H8, Standing Way 6. Take 1st left into Newport Road 7. Park in the Ye Olde Swan car park, MK6 3BS or elsewhere in Newport Road 8. CHANGEOVER POINT 2 (13.1 MILES) PARKING MK14 5LS RELAY 1 ACCESS PARKING VIA DELAWARE DRIVE RELAY CHANGE 2 Use postcode MK14 5LS and access Yeomans Drive from the Tongwell Lake entrance to avoid the road closure off Brickhill Street. LEG 2 RUNNER: The changeover point is at Yeomans Drive. Look out for the warning signs 200m before the change. This is approx 13.1 miles. Pass the baton to the Leg 3 runner. LEG 3 RUNNER: After you have received the baton join the race showing consideration to other runners. Continue to the next relay point. Go straight over Lakeside & Newlands roundabout continuing on Brickhill St, V10 7. Go straight over Pagoda roundabout continuing on Brickhill St, V10 8. Turn right at Willen roundabout onto Dansteed Way, H4 9. Take the first left into Deleware Drive 10. 2nd on the left is Yeomans Drive. Park up and walk to the changover point 1 2 4 3
CHANGEOVER POINT 3 (20 MILES) RELAY CHANGE 3 Use postcode MK13 9HF and park in Alston Drive. DO NOT park in the Bradwell Abbey car park as this will impede the runners. LEG 3 RUNNER: The changeover point is at Bradwell Abbey. Look out for the warning signs 200m before the change. This is approx 20 miles. Pass the baton to the Leg 4 runner. LEG 3 RUNNER: After you have received the baton join the race showing consideration to other runners. THE FINISH Teams are encouraged to return to the stadium to cheer in the last runner. You may re-use your parking permit to gain access to the Bond Estates car park. All runners should collect their medals and finisher T-Shirts from the Pre-Function Bar area and NOT the finish line. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams home at 2pm.
