Welcome to the fall. It should get cooler soon, leaves should change, and we should get ready for ghosts & goblins. Don't forget our October meeting on the 16 th. We will be announcing our slate for next year's board of directors. Now is the time to step up and get more involved in your association. We will take nominations from the floor. Think about serving on the board or on a committee. There is always work to be done. Voting is next month. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Convention Committee for another year and another GREAT JOB! I saw quite a few members at the exhibit. I hope it was worthwhile for you. And, how about the lock collections & key machines! Padlocks that I had never seen. Pretty cool. The awards banquet was a blast and there were many surprised recipients. Minutes of the September 2017 GPLA General Membership Meeting The September 2017 GPLA General Membership Meeting was held at the GPLA Headquarters on September 18, 2017 and was called to order at 7:32 PM by President Barry Wilensky. Sergeant at Arms Bob Thomas lead us off with the Pledge of Allegiance. Barry Wilensky welcomed everyone back from Summer break. Previous Meeting Minutes: Paul Kline made a motion to accept the previous minutes as printed with a second by Murray Bilker and it passed unanimously. Treasurer s Report: Treasurer Marty Arnold presented a comprehensive finance report to the Board of Directors which reviewed the finances for June 2017 through August 2017. There was a motion by Murray Bilker to accept the Treasurer's report as given, seconded by Ed Fitzgerald and carried unanimously by the Board. Correspondence In and Out: Marty Arnold received a letter from Larry McCall who mailed back his Philadelphia Award to be displayed in the GPLA common library. A letter of thanks was sent. Marty stated that Jerry Roraback of Lab gave him three pin kits to be raffled off to improve our membership. A letter was sent to Jerry to thank him. President's Report: Barry stated that over the Summer he went to the ALOA convention. Barry stated that attendance was up and for the most part ALOA filled up their classes. Barry noted that distributors are holding more free or cheap classes. Barry reported that the Board met the bylaws by electing and unanimously approving Marty Arnold to continue on as Treasurer. Membership: Paul Kline stated that John Magee IV was elected and approved as shop member 184A and James Sundstrond IV was also elected and approved as shop member 222A. Education: Cliff Shafer stated that on Wednesday we will have our first convention course taught by Joe Reustle, Basic Safe Penetration, at the GPLA headquarters. Cliff added that Joe is the SAVTA instructor of the year. Cliff then added that we also have great courses on Thursday and Friday including a New Jersey CEU approved class each day. Cliff added that he hopes to have some classes in the Spring. 5

Meeting Program: Paul Kline stated that at the next meeting he plans to have a person in on alarm locks. Paul then asked if anyone would be interested in a course on motorcycle keys. Paul added that he and John Williams are working together on putting together a class on motorcycle keys. Building: Marty Arnold called Sonny and he replaced the lights that were out. Barry Wilensky added that the headquarters was straightened up during the June clean-up meeting. Newsletter: Gabriel Kanes noted that the newsletter went out this morning and he had 3 of them returned. N.J. Legislation: Ed Fitzgerald stated that Secure Lock and Key from Staten Island were fined $1000.00 for operating in New Jersey without a license. Ed added that the state of New Jersey sent out over 30 letters to Locksmiths with fines of $100 for not having their license on their vehicle, web site or stationary. P.A. Legislation: Orvis Kline added that the State of Pennsylvania is starting to enforce the Contractors licenses. Bylaws: Orvis Kline stated that he is reviewing the bylaws and would like to make some small changes to bring them up to date by the end of the year. There was a discussion on future changes of the bylaws. Unfinished Business: Nothing to report. New Business: Orvis Kline stated that as board chairman he is responsible to get together a list of officers and board members to Barry Wilensky which will be voted on in November and installed in January. Orvis Kline added that positions are available and if interested contact him to get on the ballot. Barry Wilensky opened the floor for nomination for row officers and board members. Web Site: Barry Wilensky thanked Murray Bilker and Orvis Kline for all their tireless work getting the web site store open for the convention. Barry stated that the web page is a little behind because of the convention. Barry added that in the near future we can use the store for other courses as well as promoting our organization. Murray added that we will be able to use the web page to pay membership dues. Good of the Association: Bob Wagner mentioned that his truck is for sale. 6

Marty Arnold stated that he is trying to talk Andre Toller, an honorary member into coming to the convention. Tony Beunaflor asked if there is a way to help out Florida locksmiths hit by hurricane Irma in Florida. Cliff added that if you want to help fellow locksmiths in Houston that are hurricane Harvey victims contact Ken Foo on ClearStar. Marty Arnold added that he went and visited Bob Bostock in an assisted living facility and Marty stated that Bob said hello to everyone. Ed Fitzgerald added that Ed Goodall is bringing some safes to the convention and he is interested in working with locksmiths to give them a good deal on the safes so that he does not have to carry them back. Health and Welfare: Ed Fitzgerald mentioned that Dee Mock was in the hospital for a couple days but she is out and doing much better and looking forward to seeing everyone at the convention. Cliff Shafer added that Albert Lilley suffered a head injury and that is why he has not been to the meetings. 50/50: The amount of $50 as well as other various prizes was won. Cliff Shafer added how important it is as members to come to the convention and make sure you stop by the lock collectors room. Cliff then mentioned to support our convention sponsors: Allegion ClearStar Medeco AMSEC Lockmasters A motion by to adjourn the meeting was made by Murray Bilker and was seconded by Larry Schwalb at 8:32 PM. Member Milestone Submitted by Marty Arnold Marty Arnold and Nelly Arnold (Van Den Berg) celebrate their 60 th. wedding anniversary. They emigrated from the Netherland in 1957 and settled in Pennsauken, where he started the Arnold Safe and Lock Co. in 1963. Nelly was a full-time home maker and a great gardener. They have three children, Martin Jr, Nancy L. and Nelly A, four grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren. Holding on to this treasure for sixty years, it s quite clear that GPLA s Treasurer is eminently qualified for the job.
