August 2017 FROM THE PRESIDENT By: Tom Daniels, President Smell it..ooh ya that s the smell of football, cool fall evenings and yup hunting season. Who s ready to go and get it done? Well before we head off into the woods, just a couple of things. BOWNANZA was another huge success. People from around the great Northwest and Canada arrived that last weekend in July, not only to enjoy the great weather but to enjoy the great venue and people here at CRB. We had 323 participants take part in the event this year. There was plenty of new and different scenes out in the courses for all the participants to view and shoot this year. Shad Hulse and his crew designed and installed B course and was voted best course at Bownanza this year, congrats. FLAT RANGE: Please be aware that there are NO CENTER DOTS on the targets at the Flat Range, NOR DO WE WANT ANY! We have done this purposely, as for years the centers have been shot and the target bales are getting tired. Shooting the perimeter will help promote the longevity of the bale. Please do not bring your own stickers and attach them to Club targets. Planning an Event at the Club? If you are planning any type of event at the Club such as Birthday Party, Family Reunion, Anniversary, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Holiday Weekend Event, Family Camp Over/Out, etc. with nonmembers involved please contact the Board for approval prior to the event. Thank you. BLOCK TARGETS Used At the Broad head Pits If you are going to use a "Block" type target, please put it in front of the sand pits or off to the side. Several times in the past, Members have dug the sand out of the pit to be able to set up their target, this forced the sand to run out of the front of the pit onto the ground, and it was left that way. Losing the sand from the pit will eventually lead to the loss of usage for your fellow member trying to sight in their broad heads. No Hunting on Club Property By The Board Just a reminder; there is no hunting allowed on Club property.

Broadhead Tuning By Jim Walker (From Easton's Tuning Guide) In general terms, broadhead tuning is done by first shooting a group of arrows with field points into the target, and then by shooting a group of arrows with broadheads. The two groups are compared and the appropriate adjustments are made. CAUTION: Never shoot unfletched shafts with broadheads flight is extremely erratic and dangerous! The field points should be as close in weight as possible to the weight of the broadheads. Because it is necessary to first establish a good group with field points, broadhead tuning can be done only after acceptable tuning has been established with field points. Shoot a Group with Field Points (If Shooting At CRB; Carpet Bales On The Flat Range May Be Used. Field Tips Only): Using a set of field-tipped arrows that have been tuned with your bow, shoot a group of 3 or 4 arrows into the target at 30 yards. Take care to shoot as good a group as you are capable. Shoot a group with Broadheads: (If Shooting At CRB; Broadhead Sand Pits Are The Only Area Broadheads Are Allowed) Using identical arrows tipped with broadheads, shoot a group of 3 or 4 arrows into your 30 yard target (Broadhead Sand Pits Only). Use the same aiming spot that was used for the field points. The shot group is the key. If you are content you have shot a respectable group based on your ability, and then compare the position of the two groups. Make the adjustments listed below to your setup and shoot both groups again. Keep adjusting and shooting until both groups (field points and broadheads) group in the same area. Adjustments: Adjustments sometimes affect more than is expected. It is best to always make the up/down adjustments first. Once the two groups are on the same horizontal plane, and then make the left/right adjustments. 1. If the broadheads grouped above the field points, move the nocking point up. 2. If the broadheads group below the field points, move the nocking point down. 3. If the broadheads group to the left, they are behaving as if the shaft is too stiff (for a right handed archer). Any, or several, of the following can be done to correct the point of impact. Increase the poundage on the bow. Change to heavier broadheads. If you are using a cushion plunger, decrease the spring tension.

Enumclaw archer shatters record at national meet Kevin Hanson Tue Aug 15th, 2017 11:30am Courier Herold Enumclaw Jenelle Delfino has come a long way in the sport of archery, eventually breaking a long-standing record. Contributed photo Jenelle Delfino has taken the world of archery by storm. The Enumclaw 14-year-old shattered a record that stood for more than three decades while competing at a National Field Archery Association gathering in Yankton, South Dakota. The July 28-30 Outdoor Field Nationals saw competitors of all ages, both male and female, square off in three disciplines field, hunter and animal. In the three, the targets are different and distances vary. Delfino, who took up archery about seven years ago, took top honors in the animal category and broke the long-standing record. An incoming freshman at Enumclaw High School, Delfino has been an avid archer for almost half her life. The sport has taken her not only to nationals in South Dakota, but also to a major competition in Las Vegas, where she placed fifth in a field of 50.

Membership News August 2017 Summer League: We ended the summer league shooting season on Tuesday, August 15 on C course. It has been a pretty good summer of shooting. Usually had the same small group, newbies tagged along periodically too. Over all I think everyone had an enjoyable experience, I know I sure did. Like Winter League, Summer League shooting gives an opportunity to keep honing your shooting skills and work out any problems you might have. Additionally, it helps set the stage for being ready for hunting season. Muscles are in good shape and the shot routine is well developed. Hopefully, when the moment to harvest an animal arrives all the training and practice will be there for you and it all happens effortlessly. Since we break for hunting season, I will be around sporadically over the next few months; board members have membership packets as does Denton at Rock Creek Archery in Enumclaw and the CRB website is always open for new memberships. I will get paper work and keys processed as I am in and out from hunting and fishing adventures. Thanks, and hope you have a great time hunting. Mike Stefanick Memberships: Just a note about the membership year and what to expect in a few months. The membership year runs on a calendar basis, but the key schedule is different. We will change out this year s key the day before the Superbowl on February 3, 2018. There will be information about the procedure in Dec and Jan, so nothing to worry about now. If you have friends or family that wish to get started shooting in the next few months, remember that memberships are on a pro-rated basis by quarter. We will be at the last shortened quarter beginning Oct 1 st. Around the 1 st of Dec 2018 memberships will become available if you would like to give them as Christmas presents.
