TEAM HIGHLIGHTS HIP SUBMITTED BY NIKKI SMITH The HIP skaters are getting to play a little 3 on 3 game and working through the obstacles. The group is having fun learning how to play hockey. MITES SUBMITTED BY HILARY O BRIEN The Mites have continued to improve over the last month. December brought many exciting things for the Mites. We had our 1st home jamboree, we travelled to Manitowoc for a jamboree, and we ended the month playing pond hockey over break! The kids are really starting to come together as a team both on and off the ice...we call it our hockey family! Many of the kids are also enjoying getting some skating in at the outdoor rinks in the area! The Whites are looking forward to a half ice scrimmage in Manitowoc this month and the Reds are looking forward to playing in another tournament at Fox Valley. The Blues continue to get better and can't wait for our 2nd home jamboree this month. We also have some fun events coming up like Skate with the Voyageurs and the SNC skate where the Blues and Whites will skate during intermission of the St. Norbert game! Go Mites!
SQUIRT C SUBMITTED BY LISA BARTELT We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday break. It s hard to believe we have approached mid-season already! The Squirt C s continue to work hard at practice and have fun playing games. They are really starting to come together as a team. Individually, their skills are improving and they are gaining confidence. During the month of December the team earned three wins, one tie and had one loss. This is great momentum as they prepare for their first tournament of the season in Shawano the weekend of January 13 15 th. We wish them the best of luck!! SQUIRT B- SUBMITTED BY ADAM BURDSALL It was a quiet stretch for the De Pere Squirt Bs as the team played just three games, finishing 1-2 to place fourth at the Tomah Tournament on Dec. 10-11, 2016 In the opener, the Voyageurs fell behind 5-1 after two periods before seeing a late comeback fall short in a 5-3 loss to the Dubuque Jr. Saints. Ian Johnson scored the first goal of the game for De Pere, evening the score at 1-1 midway through the first. The Saints rattled off the next four goals, all on breakaways against Voyageur keeper Ben Van Enkenvoort (22 saves), to stretch the lead to 5-1 after two periods. The Voyageurs controlled the action in the third period, battling back behind a goal from Owen Zunker to make it 5-2. Zunker then assisted on a goal by Connor Hutjens to cut the deficit to two, but the Saints escaped with a 5-3 victory as time ran out on the Voyageur surge. Game 2 saw Altoona score twice in the first and three times in each of the next two periods en route to an 8-0 victory. Van Enkenvoort stopped 14 shots as De Pere was outshot 22-9 in defeat. De Pere bounced back on Day 2 of the tournament, getting hat tricks from Josh Porod and Jackson Chandler to beat Clark County 8-1 and wrap up the trip on a positive note. Porod scored just 12 seconds into the game, added a second goal 2 minutes later and then assisted on a Hutjens goal to make it 3-0 early. After Clark County got on the board, Chandler scored an unassisted goal late in the first period and used a Johnson assist to tally his second goal of the game early in the second period and it was 5-1. The Voyageurs pulled away from there. Nolan Burdsall converted a Zunker pass on a 2-on-1 into a goal to mae it 6-1. Porod pushed the lead to 7-1 with an unassisted goal to complete his hat trick. Chandler soon followed suit, capping his hat trick off an assist from Zunker to close out the scoring. Van Enkenvoort stopped 12 shots in the victory. The Voyageurs improved to 5-7 overall heading into 2017. De Pere's Owen Zunker (2) looks to score against the Dubuque Jr. Saints as part of the Tomah Tournament on Dec. 10, 2016. SQUIRT A SUBMITTED BY ERIC WIDAS The Squirt A team had a roller coaster December. We entered the month with a two game series facing Milwaukee Winter Club. The team battled furiously in the two games executing defense play well but struggled with offense. Both games ended in 3-0 losses with Anton stopping 32 of 35 shots and Garrett turning away 23 shots. Next up was Squirt A's first overnight road trip and tournament of the season in Tomah. Undaunted after dropping a loss the first night to a very good WI Rapids team, De Pere battled back in the next game against Washington County with a 4-3 win. This win positioned De Pere into the Consolation Championship game on Sunday against our rival Fox Valley. Net minder, Anton Widas, posted a shutout blanking Fox Valley for the trophy. Unfortunately, we didn't retain any of the score sheets from the weekend and I don't have the stats for the G's and A's. It was a solid overall team performance. We ended our December with a double header match up facing a solid Stevens Point team. Blue liner, Ted Matheson, scored a goal from the point in our first game and forward, Parker Harril, sniped one past their goalie in the second game. Both tenders played well but the Point team had a few snipes as well, putting De Pere on the short side of the score board. Squirt A capped off the month with some team bonding at the mall. The boys sung Christmas songs, rang some bells, and brought smiles to many store patrons. There was even a special guest appearance by a man wearing a red suit and sporting a white beard! PEE WEE B Christmas Cup Champions! The Pee Wee s held a 3 on 3 tournament during their practice on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2017. It was known as the Christmas Cup. A great time was had by all. Pictured on the left, with their trophy, is the Pee Wee B winning team. Proud smiles were provided by Jake Weckwerth, Eli Olson and Brenna Jensen. Congratulations! Pee Wee A Christmas Cup champs. Gabe Foth, Stacey Cloute and Preston Winkler.
PEE WEE A SUBMITTED BY MARVIN WINKLER HELLO HOCKEY FANS, Well the PEE WEE A squad continued their winning ways notching 2 more victories with a 3-2 victory over Waupaca and a 7-6 victory over Fox Valley. Yes, that's right a 7-6 victory over Fox Valley. WAY TO GO TEAM!!! With those victories and all the hard work the kids have been putting in Coach Silverio decide to do something fun for the last practice before the Christmas break. He decided to have a 3 on 3 tournament called the Christmas Cup with the team of Gabe Foth, Stacey Cloute and Preston Winkler staging a come from behind victory with 2 seconds left. After that practice the team did their civic duties and rang the RED KETTLE BELL at the mall and they even got a picture with Santa without the long line. The new year brings new opportunities to grow and excel. With 3 weekends of rest we go to Waupaca for our first tournament of the year and we also have a make-up game against Sheboygan. Join us here next month to hear the exciting results. Until then, keep cheering for your DE PERE VOYAGEURS!!!! BANTAM - SUBMITTED BY WILLIE BIRKHOLZ Happy New Year Hockey Fanatics! The Bantam skaters have continued to defeat teams less skilled and poised than they, as well as compete against superior competition. The level of play is increasingly fast-paced, aggressive and exciting to watch as they move through the season. The Bantam overall record is 13-7-1. On Dec. 30, 2016, the Bantam skaters were invited to participate in an awesome event; the Second Annual Pinewood Park Outdoor Hockey Classic in Howard where they faced the Green Bay Bobcats. The event built in team camaraderie and player interviews. In late January, the Bantam skaters will participate in back-to-back tournaments, The Cardinal Cup in Sun Prairie January 20th-22nd and the Badger State Games in Wausau January 27th-29th in preparation for Playdowns. The final 8 games of our season are away; Beaver Dam, Sheboygan, Marshfield & Shawano. If interested in catching the Bantams in action, come out and show your support February 5th @ 1:00pm at the DePere Ice Arena as we play for a state tournament berth! Go Voyageurs!
