Sunday, May 21, 2017 2:05 p.m. CT Werner Park Papillion, Neb. Games #41/42 Home Games #21/22 Reno Aces (26-16) RHP Braden Shipley (4-1, 3.35) RHP Keyvius Sampson (3-2, 6.83) SERIES AT A GLANCE Omaha & Reno face off for the 1st & only time in the regular season at Werner Park between 5/19-22. The Chasers are coming off a 2-2 series split with Tacoma, while the Aces won 3 of 4 matchups with Round Rock to complete their 8-game homestand. Omaha won 3 of 4 contests at Reno in 2016, though the Aces own a 13-11 advantage in the series coming into this 4-game set, dating back to 2011. The Chasers do have a 5-3 advantage at Werner Park in that span coming into Friday s series opener, compared to a 6-10 deficit at Reno in that same period. C Parker Morin is the only current active Omaha position player to have faced the Aces last year with the Chasers, while RHP Christian Binford, Malcom Culver & Mark Peterson also appearing in that series in 2016. STORM STORIES The Chasers enter play today with a perfect 5-0 record in games played on Sundays in 2017. The Omaha bullpen has not recorded a save since Al Alburquerque on 4/25 at New Orleans. The team has not even had an official save opportunity since 4/27, when RHP Malcom Culver suffered a blown save versus Oklahoma City. Chasers batters have recorded at least 1 hit in each of their last 1,244 regular season games. The last time the franchise failed to record a hit was a 2-0 loss to the then-oklahoma RedHawks on June 29, 2008. Omaha pitchers have also allowed at least 1 hit in every game since April 17, 1997, when Oklahoma was no-hit. I GIVE IT A TEN OF Bubba Starling last night extended his hit streak to 10 consecutive contests. In that time frame since 5/9 he owns a.382 average (13-38), along with 7 runs, 1 double & 3 RBI. He has raised his 2017 batting average 72 points from.133 to its current peak of.205 during that streak. Starling has also recorded hits in 13 of his last 15 games. Prior to that point he had tallied a hit in just 2 of his previous 40 at-bats (14 games) between 4/15-5/2. The 10 game hit streak is also Starling s longest since a 12-game stretch between 6/26-7/11/15 with Double-A NW Arkansas. LET S GET IT STARTED Omaha starting pitchers this month have combined for a 6-6 record & 3.10 ERA (37 ER/107.1 IP) in 19 outings. The rotation has recorded 10 quality starts this month with 6 of those outings coming over the Chasers last 8 contests. Today s game 1 starter RHP Luke Farrell has tallied quality outings in each of his last 2 starts. Opposing hitters have managed just a.221 batting average (86-389) against those hurlers. Overall this season, the Omaha rotation has compiled a 15-12 record & 3.16 ERA (75 ER/213.2 IP) with 210 strikeouts,.225 batting average against & 1.22 WHIP. TOUPS THERE IT IS INF Corey Toups continues to excel early in games, having combined for a.394 average (13-33) when batting in the 1st 3 innings. That s in comparison to a.219 clip (16-73) in any other frame this season. Last night s longball was Toups 3rd of the year & 1st at Werner Park. In 18 home games this year he owns a.300 average (18-60), along with 11 runs, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 1 HR & 3 RBI, compared to a.239 mark (11-46) in 14 road matchups. CHASERS BATTING LEADERS AVG R. TALE OF THE TAPE The Chasers enter play today ranked 1st in the PCL in earned-run average (3.43), in addition to allowing the 2ndlowest hits total (319) in the league. Omaha s offense, meanwhile, ranks last in the circuit in runs scored (161), doubles (58) & walks drawn (108), in addition to the 3rd-lowest OBP (.320) & SLG (.391) totals. Reno, meanwhile, ranks 1st in the league in batting average (.307), runs (294), hits (464), doubles (94) & SLG (.486), in addition to 2nd in triples (21) & OBP (.366). The Aces also rank 1st among all MiLB clubs in batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles & SLG. LET S PLAY TWO! Today marks the Chasers 3rd doubleheader they will have played in a span of 5 days. It is also the 4th twinbill of the year for Omaha. That includes a day/night split doubleheader on May 17 versus Tacoma. The Chasers have split each of those 2 twinbills during the current homestand, in addition to a twinbill sweep of Oklahoma City on 5/1 at Werner Park. Omaha last season posted a 1-6 record in games played during a twinbill, the worst record in the PCL.
