Dear Liberty Hill ISD Family: This summer is sure to be packed with great books, exciting programs, and the chance to win some great prizes at Liberty Hill Public Library! This year s summer reading program theme is Reading Gives You Superpowers and we have three programs for everyone: children (birth to grade 6); teens (grades 7-12) and adults of all ages. Summer activities will include book based fun, storytimes, arts and crafts, science, games, movies, and special visitors. We guarantee a summer of messy, entertaining, creative, and educational fun for the whole family that is free, open to everyone, and located right here in our Liberty Hill community. Why do we provide a summer reading program that encourages children to read? Because 30+ years of studies have shown that students who read during the summer maintain the critical reading skills that are crucial to success in every classroom subject. We take our role in helping to prevent the "summer slide" of 3-4 months of lost academic progress that occurs in nonreaders very seriously. If you have never visited or have not visited very recently, I would like to personally invite you to come by and see us at the library, which is located in Lion s Foundation Park just past the ball fields. We have books (many new!) to check out, DVDs, audiobooks, downloadable ebooks, computers, 24x7 WiFi, databases, notary, and many more services for patrons of all ages. SIGN-UP AT THE LIBRARY from Saturday, June 6 until Friday, July 10; pick-up a READING LOG. 2. WRITE DOWN THE MINUTES YOU READ on your READING LOG. All the minutes you read, are read to, read to someone, or listen to books COUNT! It all counts because we want children of all ages to participate. READ anything you want to-we encourage you to pick your own books and READ FOR FUN! 3. TURN IN READING LOGS as you complete them; the last day to turn them in is July 22. When you have read 300 MINUTES you have reached the first prize level! BUT keep reading as the more minutes that you read the more prizes you will win (see below) Turn in your first 300 minutes by July 6 to earn an extra prize. If you are out of town, email minutes to librarian@lhpl.org or call us at 512.778.6400. 4. PICTURE OF YOU & YOUR FAVORITE BOOK. We take your picture when you have turned in 300 minutes. We make it into a poster and hang it up in the library; you also get a copy as one of your prizes. 5. THREE PRIZE WINNING LEVELS-the more you read the more prizes you win! PRIZES can be picked up from Saturday, July 25 (closing ceremony), until Sunday, August 30. 1200 MINUTES if you read at least 1200 minutes you have a chance to win special prizes. 6. EVERYTHING IS FREE the events, activities, crafts, performers, movies-everything IS FREE! 7. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Children from birth to 6 th grade are welcome to participate and you DO NOT have to be a member of the library (although we would love it if you were!). Liberty Hill Public Library 2015 Summer Reading Program Wish List Do you have any of the items this list that you would be willing to donate to our summer reading program? We are looking for these items for our various craft projects and science activities during our summer reading program. We would be very, very grateful if you have anything to donate. You can drop off items at the library or even call us to arrange pick-up. All donations are tax deductible! Used Legos (or Lego Type) Bricks, Lincoln Logs, or Tinker Toys Plastic bottles (Empty-2 liter and 16-20 oz. water and soda) Glass jars (e.g. Empty pickle, jelly/jam, mayonnaise) Food coloring Wine corks Cereal, cracker, or similar types of boxes (Empty) Toilet paper and paper towel rolls (Empty) Camera Film Canisters (the old plastic ones with lids) Clay/Terra Cotta pots (smaller ones) Ice cube trays Bars of Ivory soap Plastic spoons Balloons Magnets Shaving cream (12 oz. cans) Alka Seltzer tablets Plastic Straws Sandwich-sized plastic bags (the kind that zip shut) Pine cones White vinegar Baking soda Vegetable oil Nuts (as in nuts & bolts) Flashlights, alarm clocks, or other small appliances that no longer work Any craft items that you no longer need (e.g. craft pom poms, Sharpies, Sharpies, water based paints, or anything else!)
