Page 2 Car Shows & Upcoming Events President s Message By Andy Toth July 2018 Our last VTCIn monthly event was the car show at the Old Settlers Day festival in Wanamaker held on Sunday, June 24. This was a bit unusual because we normally hold our events on the third Saturday of the month. This has been based on tradition and not formally called out in our By-Laws. So this was something new to try. I don t know the official count, but there were probably 200 or so cars displayed lining the main street of Wanamaker. We did not have a large turnout of members or their Thunderbirds. Mike Sercer was the lone entrant from our club as far as I could tell with his 61 Pace car on display. I attended as a spectator as did Jim Maple and Mary Tucker. Richard Morris also was there in the afternoon. From what I saw there were two other Thunderbirds on display, a 62 white hardtop and a silver 84 Turbo Coupe that was identical to Webmaster Jeff Alden's car. The owner of the white car came and talked with Mike and I as did another owner of a 62 I believe. Both of them took membership fliers and should be joining our club. Though a bit disappointing in member turn out, the day was a nice, sunny one a bit on the hot side, but not too bad. We are always looking for ideas on events to attend for our monthly events. They could be cars related, Thunderbirds if possible, a social type event, or even a lunch at a local restaurant. If you have any ideas, please share them with your club leaders. We have a couple of months coming up with no events planned at this time. On a sad note we learned of Jeff Alden s father passing in June. Our condolences to you Jeff. Our next meeting is scheduled on a non-standard day again. It will be on a Saturday, but will be on July 28. So please make note and mark your calendars accordingly. This will be the Mustang and All Ford Car Show. Another last minute change is the location. It will be held at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds at 1900 E. Main St., Danville, IN. This should be a large event, so I hope many of you will be able to come out with your Thunderbirds or just to get together and spectate. One more reminder. We will be following this event, the following Saturday, August 4 with our annual club picnic at Capital City Ford to view Bob Thomas great collection. This is a food pitch-in picnic style event. Please make special note of this one as there will not be another newsletter coming out before that event. This should be a good event for all as Bob has a great collection of all car models and he only selects the best. You don t want to miss seeing them. I hope to see you all at the car show and then the following picnic. Andy
Page 3 Wanamaker Show There were over 150 cars, bikes and even tractors on display. Yes, those are Gull Wing doors, and yes, that s a Tesla SUV! You never know what you ll see! Nice 80 s Bird, but not one of our members. So, Who made Twin H Power? Thanks to Mike Sercer for having the only club car there - He did take one of the top 40 awards.
