Laws of the Small Sided Game - (5v5) U7 & U8

Transcription:

GAME PROCEDURES Games start at 10:30am, Saturday mornings. OFFICIATING 8U games will be officiated by a certified referee. TEAM CHECK-IN 8U teams will be formed and told of their field location 10 minutes prior to game time. The coach should ensure the player is wearing their shin guards, shoes are tied, and no jewelry. Have each team line up before the game and ask them if they have their shin guards on. Normally the players pat their shins to show they have them. Look for jewelry because for safety reasons, it should not be worn or taped unless it is for medical reasons. Now instruct the players to step forward one step or raise their hand as you call their name off from the Team list that is provided to all teams. Player cards will not be used in in-house 8U. At least one coach should be on the sidelines with players who are not on the field. GAME TIMES - Games will consist of 4 equal periods of 8 minute quarters and a 5 minute half time, with a 2 minute break between quarters 1 and 2, and 3 and 4. 5 minute half time (break) DETERMINE BALL POSSESSION at the start of the game. Flip a coin to decide which team kicks off and switch sides after half-time -OR- Rock, paper, scissors to determine which team kicks off. Teams switch sides at half time. Be sure each team understands which goal is theirs. TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP - At the end of the game, the players should learn how to line up facing each other on the center line in front of the team sideline and walk past each other and touch hands (or fist pumps if trying to prevent germs) and say Good Game. Coaches are usually last in line and coaches shake each other s hands. If there is an official referee, then it is also good sportsmanship for the players and coaches to run to the referee(s) and thank him or her too. SPECTATOR SPORTSMANSHIP ( The Tunnel ) - At this younger age, the families and spectators usually like to show their positive support by forming a tunnel and having the players run through and giving them good jobs. Since these are Pella vs. Pella teams and scores should not be kept or teams separated by who won or who lost, it is encouraged that all parents and spectators form one tunnel on the center line and that the players from both teams run through the lines. If you have never been part of the tunnel, you form two lines of parents/spectators, raising one arm and then high-fiving or fist-pumping the player with your other hand. Please move the team off the sideline as quickly as possible for the next team(s) to prepare for their game. It is always good to get players used to cooling down and then have a team huddle and provide your comments in a positive manner to your team about their game. End of game talks should last no longer than five minutes. Last Updated 8/21/2017 Page 1

GAME RULES TREATS - Normally at this younger age, a parent on the team coordinates snack sign-up and parents take turns bringing a snack that is handed out to the players after they have run through their tunnel and talked to their coaches. CLEAN-UP Please keep your fields clean by picking up any trash as you leave Thank You. 1. Match is played 4v4 - with 4 players from each team on the field at one time. 2. Referees and coaches should emphasize safety, fairness, learning, and fun. Score should not be kept and emphasis should not be made on whether they won or lost, but if they used what is taught in training, in addition to having fun! 3. KICK-OFF - Games start with a kick off in the center of the field, with the defending team at least 5 yards from the ball, on their side of the field. A kick off puts a stationary ball into play from the center line of the field at the start of quarter or after a goal has been scored. After the volunteer official blows the whistle (once), the first touch of the ball for the team in possession initiates the ball is now in fair play. After the first touch another player must touch the ball; a violation of this is a teaching moment restart the kick-off. A goal may not be scored directly from the kick-off. If the ball goes into the goal without touching another player on a kick-off, the team will be allowed to re-do the kick-off. The reason for the re-kick should be explained. 4. THROW-IN - Ball goes out of play over touchline (sideline). The ball must cross the sideline entirely to be called out. A throw-in should be made in the general area where the ball left the field. A proper throw-in includes two hands motioning the ball directly behind the head and during the forward throwing motion keeping both feet planted on the ground. A goal may not be scored directly from a throw-in. Another player must touch the ball first before it goes into the goal. If the ball goes into the goal from a throw-in without another player touching, re-do the throw-in; the referee will explain why. The player doing the throw-in cannot touch the ball again until another player touches it. If the player throwing the ball in touches it first, then stop the play, explain why, and have the player redo the throw-in. Last Updated 8/21/2017 Page 2

5. GOAL KICK - Ball out of play over the goal line (end line). Goal kicks are taken by any defending player to restart the game when the ball goes past the goal line and is last touched by an attacking player. The ball is placed on the ground within 5 yards of the goal. Opposing players must return to their half of the field on the other side of the center line until the ball is kicked. A goal may not be scored directly from a goal kick, if it does, re-do the goal kick and explain why. The defending team may be on their side of the field with the player taking the goal kick and they may kick the ball once the goal kick is taken, but the player doing the goal kick cannot be the player to touch it next. The defending players may go after the ball as soon as the goal kick is taken. 6. CORNER KICK Corner kicks are taken by any attacking player to restart the game when the ball goes past the goal line and is last touched by a defensive player. The ball is placed on the ground on the playing field within ½ yard of the corner nearest where the ball went out. The opposing players must stand at least 5 yards from the kicker. The player taking the goal kick cannot touch the ball again until another player does. A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick. 7. On a kick-off, throw-in, goal kick and corner kick, the player that first kicks the ball cannot touch the ball again until another player touches it. 8. GOAL A goal is scored when the whole ball crosses the whole width of the line between the goals posts. 9. NO GOALKEEPER - There is no goalkeeper in 8U! This rule not only means no player can use his or her hands, it also means that no player should stay directly in the goal area. That is, offensive players should not position themselves in front of the goal unless they are dribbling the ball or are moving to receive a pass. Defensive players should not position themselves within five yards of the goal unless they are actively defending a dribbling offensive player or an offensive player is moving to receive a pass. The only time players should be by the goal is when the ball is heading there also. This allows all of the players to be directly involved in the game and have fun instead of just standing there, waiting for something to happen. Last Updated 8/21/2017 Page 3

10. RESTART WITH A DROPPED BALL - If the game had to be stopped due to an injury or for any reason that is not the fault of either team, then the official restarts the game with a dropped ball. The ball is dropped from waist height, between two players from opposing teams, at the point where the game was stopped. The ball is in play when it hits the ground. The players should not touch the ball until the ball hits the ground. 11. FOULS - Fouls should result in an indirect kick at the point of the foul. If the foul occurred in front of the goal, then move the ball back at least 5 yards. Indirect means that the ball cannot go in the net directly following the kick. It must be passed to another player before going in the goal. The player taking the indirect kick cannot touch the ball again until another player does. The opposing team must be at least 5 yards from the ball before the indirect kick is taken. Fouls are defined as: a. Intentionally striking another player, hitting or kicking them, (when the offensive contact could have been avoided) b. Intentionally handling the ball (when contact between the ball and a player s hand is made that could have been avoided) c. Tripping d. Holding e. Spitting f. Taunting g. Slide tackles 12. SUBSTITUTION a. Substitution of players should be made at the center line so they get used to the process. This applies to players both coming off and taking the field. b. Substitution of multiple players can be made by either team during kick offs, goal kicks, and kick-ins. If coaches prefer, you may agree ahead of time when to sub together. c. No substitutions are allowed on corner kicks or fouls. 13. Parents and spectators must sit on the opposite side of the field as the team(s) and coach(s). Spectators must also be off the sideline by at least two yards to allow room for the players to kickin. 14. Shin guards are required for the players and should be worn underneath the player s socks. If layers are needed to keep warm, wear the team jersey (t-shirt) as the outer layer. 15. There are no direct kicks or penalty kicks. 16. There are no off sides. 17. Equal playing time for all players should be at least 50%. 18. Call quarters on a natural break in play if possible. 19. Thank you for reminding players not to hang on the goals or jump in the nets of the goals. These rules are a guideline and meant to help everyone to instruct 8U to play the same, and better prepare them for 10U. They are not an exact science in 8U, so do not stress about getting every part perfect, just try your best and everyone learns together! Do not over-officiate. We want the kids to have FUN! Let the game of soccer be the teacher, and gradually providing exposure to the nuance of the rules. Last Updated 8/21/2017 Page 4
