Patriot Times Red, White, & News! VOLUME 8, ISSUE 13 NOVEMBER 30, 2017 Christmas Spirit Fills the School! Christmas break is just around the corner, with only three weeks of school to go! Teachers and students are getting into the Christmas spirit. Around the school many people are putting up Christmas decorations. In the library, many decorations have been put up. The library is full of Christmas spirit, from a Christmas tree to stocking stuffers, the library has it all! Come and see the magnificent beauty of Christmas spirit as it fills the library. Mrs. Turner has decorated her tree to suit the Christmas joy that fills the air. The tree is decorated with many sparkling ornaments. In the cafeteria, a white Christmas tree has been put up and decorated. This tree will hopefully get all of the students and staff into the Christmas spirit! P ATRIOT TIMES P AGE 2 Around the School by Zach Woody and Jared Fisher New Question: Where is the South Pole? Come on, folks! Again, no one correctly answered last week s question. The bulletin board is beside Mrs. Loudin s room. This is an easy one! If you know the answer, then write it and your name on a piece of paper and put it in the Around the School box at the library circulation desk. One correct answer will be chosen. We may print that student s picture in the next issue, and the student will win a prize. Book Review: The Fighting Ground by Avi A thirteen-year-old boy named Jonathan is eager to join the Revolutionary War. His family is at first very enthused about it. His father used to help him train, but now after his father returned from a battle with a wound in his leg, he is fearful and doesn t want his son to leave. However, when the war bell rings Jonathan leaves anyway. He borrows a tavern owner s gun and begins a morning-long march to battle some German Hessians. He ends up being taken prisoner. The Hessians take him to an old house where he finds a young boy in a shed and a dead mother and father in a field. It distresses him. All the while he isn t sure if he trusts or mistrusts the Hessians, but he comes to appreciate them, at least. A Hessian soldier helps him bury the two parents. Then Jonathan escapes in the night back to the army camp. Since a Revolutionary soldier murdered the boy's parents, he knew where the house was. As the militia arrives at the house, they force Jonathan to see if the Hessians were awake or asleep. He runs into the house, wakes them and tells them to run. Warm over medium-low heat, and then stir in the chocolate chips. Stir until melted (though there will still be lovely particles of chocolate throughout). If it's too chocolaty for you, splash in a little more milk. Add a splash of vanilla extract. If it's not quite sweet enough for you, add 1 teaspoon or so of sugar. Serve in mugs with whipped cream. 2 cups milk 2 cups half-and-half 1 cup good semisweet chocolate chips Splash vanilla extract 1 teaspoon sugar, optional Whipped cream, to serve foodnetwork.com
