Section 3 Newsletter Issue No. II February 2007 ~Chapter Chatter~ AlWood Six members of the AlWood FFA Chapter toured Indianapolis, IN for the 79 th National FFA Convention including Cody Curry, Ben Gelaude, Jerrico Lessard, Katie Nimrick, Sondra Munson, and Andrea Wallerstedt. Andrea Wallerstedt received an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go backstage and meet with the country band Heartland, which is famous for singing, I Loved Her First. Drew DeSutter and Brad Horn were honored at the National Convention for earning their American FFA Degrees. They are the 6 th and 7 th recipients of this degree in AlWood history, and the last American Degree earned from AlWood was in 1978. Each year, several AlWood Greenhand members compete in the crops contest at BHE. This year, Haley Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Sondra Munson, Tyler Eidet, Danyelle English, and Amy Henry all competed. Haley Anderson was one point from placing 10 th high individual at the contest, and ended up taking 11 th. Overall, AlWood received 6 th place as a team. Orion Section Parliamentary procedure Nick Seys, Megan Seys, Tyler Patton, Hannah Williams, James Saner, and Alex Samuelson got 2nd place as a team. We all liked it and thought it was sweet. Section Livestock- Tyler Patton got third in sheep, and Noah Mays got 1st in sheep for the junior division. Section Proficiencies were fun, we had 7 people work very hard and get first place, we thought this night was very successful and we all learned good skills and how to interview good. For FFA week we have many things planned, we are having a tractor day, a truck day, petting zoo, dress up like a farmer day, and teacher appreciation day. 1

Crops Contest Every Section 3 Chapter competed at the Crops Contest held on November 7 at BHE. FFA members identified twenty weeds and judged corn, oats, soybeans, and silage. Congratulations to the top winners for their outstanding work!! Thanks!! -Kristin DeSutter Section 3 Reporter- Parliamentary Procedure Results The 2006 Parli-Pro contest was hosted by the Orion FFA Chapter on December 11. Results from the contest are listed below. Thanks to Orion for hosting this CDE, and great job to all who participated!! Dodge, Dip, Dive, Duck, AND~~Dodge!! Annawan, Bureau Valley, Galva, and Geneseo participated in the Section 3 Tournament on January 13. Annawan conquered the other teams, but the Section 3 Officer Team triumphed in the last game. Thanks to the Geneseo FFA Chapter for hosting the tournament and causing everyone to have a great afternoon. (Pictured left is the dominating dodge ball team from Annawan.) ~Farm Bureau Acquaintance Day~ FFA members represented their Section 3 FFA Chapter by attending Farm Bureau Acquaintance Day on Monday, January 15. Participants listened to a Black Hawk East representative discuss the importance of agriculture in the future work force, and were provided free Pizza Hut pizza from local Farm Bureau Agencies. The rest of the day was spent bowling and meeting FFA members from across Section 3.
