Attention Coaches, The Nebraska Cattlemen s Classic wants to invite you to be a part of the annual Nebraska Cattlemen s Classic Judging Contest. The contest will be held on Saturday February 24 th at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney, NE. We are in the process of putting together a superior contest with outstanding quality and great teaching opportunities for future contests. Saturday's events will run much like a regular contest. Youth contestants will judge eight (8) classes split up into two rounds (4 classes/round). Classes will consist of any combination of bulls, heifers, and feedlot steers. Classes will either be led or in loose pens. Performance data will be provided on some classes. Senior contestants will give reasons on 3 designated classes. Junior contestants will answer questions (10/class) on 2 designated classes. There will be two divisions Junior and Senior. Juniors are any contestant age 8-13 on or before January 1, 2018. Seniors are any contestant age 14-19 on or before January 1, 2018. Please enter your youth in the proper division based on AGE, not on standing in school or FFA classification. Enclosed you will find a schedule of events, contest rules, and entry forms. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, February 24 th. Buffalo Co. Fairgrounds Kearney, Nebraska SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24 TH, 2018 Youth Division Junior & Senior Youth 1. Entries Early entries are due on or before February 5 th. The entries should include all candidates that the coach expects to bring to the contest. The final team selections will be made the morning of the contest. Each team may consist of up to four members with three scores constituting the team total. Individuals may compete and will be eligible for individual awards. You may enter as many teams as you wish. 2. Age Requirements: Junior (age 8-13 as of January 1, 2018) Senior (age 14-19 as of January 1, 2018) 3. Early entry fee - $60 per team; $15 per individual. Entry fee may be brought to the contest. Late entries will be accepted up until the day of the contest at $80 per team and $20 per individual. 4. Eight (8) classes of cattle consisting of heifers, bulls and feedlot cattle will be judged. The cattle will be on halter or loose in pens. 5. Performance data and a scenario will be provided on multiple classes. The performance classes may also be selected as reasons classes. 6. Contestants will be given 12 minutes to place each class and 2 minutes to give each set of oral reasons. Reason classes will be set by the committee. Seniors will give reasons on 3 classes. Juniors will answer questions only on 2 classes. 7. Typical contest scoring and tie breaking methods will be in use. 8. There will be no official coaches' meeting. Coaches will register teams and receive final contest details at the event. 9. At the conclusion of the reasons session, official judges will give the placing and cuts. 10. A brief awards presentation is planned directly following the contest. **Dress for the contest is casual. NO JACKETS OR TIES.** **Hats discouraged. Nice jeans and shirt preferred. ** **If youth will be showing in the junior show, parents can check in cattle for them**
