INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY Infinite Motion Performing Arts Academy generally closes if area schools are closed due to severe weather, including anticipated icy road conditions. We err on the side of caution in considering travel conditions for our students and staff, as the majority of our teachers travel quite a distance to get here. Class cancellations due to inclement weather will be posted on our website, Remind 101 and our social media feeds at least 1 hour prior to a class start time. IMPAA does not refund tuition due to inclement weather or other acts of severe nature that cannot be avoided. Students can make up the cancelled class in any other class of their choice at the Academy in the same age/level. If a class/day has to be cancelled more than two times due to inclement weather, we will offer make-up classes. SICKNESS: As cold and flu season approaches, let s all try to stay healthy! Please be mindful to keep your child home if he/she is not feeling well. All missed classes can be made up in an age appropriate class at your convenience. WHERE IN THE WORLD IS LOLA? ACADEMY EDUCATIONAL CORNER 'The Nutcracker'' is a Christmas tradition in many families. There are television programs, live stage performances, and ballets based on this popular story. Read on to find out about the story and the ballet. The Nutcracker Started as a Story The Story of the Nutcracker Ballet The Nutcracker ballet actually started as a story. Written by the German author, E.T.A. Hoffman, it was originally called 'The Nutcracker and the King of Mice.' It was a gruesome story about a girl named Marie who falls in love with a nutcracker and leaves her real life to live in a world of dolls. A French author named Alexandre Dumas adapted the original story, making it a Christmas tale. The story of the ballet isn't exactly the same as this story, but it is very similar. There are many different versions of the story that have been turned into ballet performances. The Nutcracker is set at the house of the Stahlbaum family on Christmas Eve. The Stahlbaum children, Fritz and Clara, and their parents are having a Christmas party. Drosselmeyer, a toymaker and clockmaker who is also the godfather of the Stahlbaum children, arrives at the party. Drosselmeyer gives gifts to Fritz and Clara, and Clara's gift is a nutcracker. While playing with it, Fritz breaks the nutcracker. Drosselmeyer magically fixes it. After the children go to bed, Clara worries about the nutcracker, so she sneaks back to the Christmas tree and falls asleep holding him. Clara wakes up at midnight. She shrinks until she's the same size as her toys, which come to life. An army of mice appear with their leader, the Mouse King. The Nutcracker wakes up, and leads an army of toy soldiers into battle against the Mouse King and his army of mice. Although they fight bravely, the Nutcracker and the toy soldiers are captured by the mice. Clara wants to help, so she throws her slipper at the Mouse King, hitting him on the head. When the Mouse King dies, he's carried away by the mice, who run away from the soldiers. The Nutcracker turns into a Prince and takes Clara on a journey to the Land of Snow. The Prince then takes Clara to the Land of Sweets, where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy. They have a celebration that includes six dances: the Spanish, Arabian, Russian, Chinese and Mirilton Dances and then the Waltz of Flowers. Finally, Clara wakes up from her dream and finds that she's at her own home, holding her nutcracker under the Christmas tree.
