Physical & Health Education MYP Year 1 Year 6 Swimming Date task given: week beginning: 4 September 217 Task due date: week beginning: 25 September 217 Key Concepts: Time, place and space Global Concepts: Orientation in space and time Related Concepts: Environment Inquiry Questions: Factual: What does it mean to be proficient and efficient in the water? (streamline, stroke efficiency / length / technique, fitness) Conceptual: Why is it so important to be water smart? Debatable: Should every school child become a confident (not competent) swimmier for sake of their own safety? Instructions and assessment: This task assesses Criteria A, C & D Read the criteria descriptors carefully before you start your work. This will give you a clear understanding of what is required and what a quality piece of work for this task must include. This way you give yourself the best chance of achieving the highest level in this task.

The assessment requires the students to: Criterion A: Complete a written assessment on, techniques and principles of swimming. Criterion C: Student has to demonstrate and finish the distance of the 3 competitive strokes in front of a video camera (25m front crawl, 25m backstroke and 25m breast stroke, with short rest in between.) Student will also have to demonstrate a race start for each stroke. Criterion D: Students will have to describe and summarize performance in this unit.
