4-H Enrollment 4-H Enrollment started August 15th!!! All enrollment is done via 4-H Connect. You can access 4-H Connect by going to our 4-H website at http://agrilife.org/bell4h/ and clicking on the 4-H Connect icon. To maintain the level of programming and opportunities in the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program, an annual participant fee is implemented for each 4-H member (excluding Clover Kids). The participant fee is now $25 as of November 1st. For instructions on how to enroll, please visit: http://agrilife.org/bell4h/4-henrollment-guidelines/4-h-enrollment-information/ All volunteers who enroll will be charged $5.00 each volunteer. This covers your screening for the year. All volunteers will have to enroll each year. If you have further questions, please contact the County Extension Office at: 254-933-5305 County Council & Ambassadors County Council Meeting The next County Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 17th at the CEO. This meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. The program will cover the 4-H Recordbooks and the community service project will be collecting items for the local animal shelters. All council delegates from the 4-H Clubs are strongly encouraged to attend all council meetings! You can start picking up food containers on January 4th at the CEO for your participants competing in the 2016 BCYF Food Division. FCS Project News ~Bell County Food Show/Food Challenge Contest~ The Bell County Food Show and Food Challenge contests will be held on Thursday, November 5th at the CEO. This contest will start at 6:00 p.m. Winners of the county contest will advance to the District 8 contest on December 2nd at the Bell County Expo! Christmas Candy & Cookie Workshop November 21, 9:00-12:00, at the Ronald McDonald House in Temple Baked, no-bake, and stove-top holiday treats will be taught. Enough goodies to take home as well as leave behind for the residents at the RMH! Cost is $5.00 and a pantry item (either single serving cereal boxes OR single serving snack chips, items the morning of the workshop). RSVP by November 9th to the County Extension Office. Interested in the Consumer Decision Making Contest or the Nutrition Quiz Bowl Contest? If the answer is YES, then email Sheryl Raley at siraley@ag.tamu.edu to sign up! If you are an adult volunteer and want to coach the team or assist in coaching, then contact Sheryl Raley. You must notify us by November 30th if you wish to participate. Clothing Board Meeting The next Clothing Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 1st at the CEO starting at 5:30 p.m. Interested in the Clothing & Textiles project? Come join us this tonight to find out more information. BCYF Photography Entry Q&A Night We will host Bell County Youth Fair questions and answer night to cover the uploading of pictures for the photography division. This info night is scheduled for December 15th at the CEO. This will take place starting at 6:00 p.m. and should last about 1 hour. Community Service Project Opportunity! The Bell County Children s Advocacy Center is in need of new fleece blankets for the children. Please drop the blankets off at the CEO to Jackie McLaughlin if you would like to make a donation. Upcoming Events Hunter s Spectacular Recap Meeting If you volunteered at the 2015 Hunter s Spectacular, we want your opinions! Join us at the County Extension Office on Tuesday, November 10th starting at 6:00 p.m. If you want your opinions to be anonymous, then email your suggestions to siraley@ag.tamu.edu. I strongly encourage all committee chairs to be in attendance with their ideas as well. District 4-H Scholarship Training Bell County is hosting a District wide Texas 4-H Scholarship Training on Monday, December 7th at the Bell County Extension Office. The training will be taught by District 8 4-H Specialist Laura Huebinger. Please RSVP to Scarlot at the CEO by Friday, December 4th if you plan on attending. Graduating Seniors Scholarship applications are becoming available. Make sure and watch the newsletter and the Bell County 4-H Website for scholarship application deadlines. The weboste is always being updated with new scholarships and deadlines. Sheryl R. will be e-mailing applications to family e-mails listed on 4-H Connect for 4-H members listed in Grade 12. Don t hesitate on asking for help or if you have any questions regarding scholarships. Interested in the Entomology ID, Range Evaluation, Plant ID Contests? If the answer is YES, then email Heidi Prude at Heidi.Prude@ag.tamu.edu to sign up! If you are an adult volunteer and want to coach the team or assist in coaching, then contact Heidi Prude. You must notify us by November 30th if you wish to participate. All these contests will take place in the Spring so we will have time to practice fore those that are interested. Chisolm Trail Christmas Ball The Chisolm Trail Christmas Ball (formerly known as the Cowboy Christmas Ball) will be held on Saturday, December 12th at the Bell County Expo Center. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, contact Pam Reavis. All proceeds from the Ball will benefit the Bell County Youth Fair & Livestock Show and PRCA Rodeo Scholarship Fund. This is given out every year to high achieving Bell County youth as they attend and maintain the high standards of education at their college/university of choice. Heavy appetizers will be served and guests are encouraged to dress in formal western wear to keep in tradition and keep with the atmosphere. A live auction will also be held during the evening. Livestock Project News ~~ Spring 2015 Major Show Sign Up ~~ WHEN: November 2, 2015 and November 9, 2015 at the CEO TIME: 4-7 PM Entry forms for all 2016 Spring Major shows (Fort Worth, San Angelo. San Antonio, Houston, Austin) will be available for pick-up from Heidi and Sheryl at the CEO. All completed forms and payment must be turned in to Heidi or Sheryl at the extension office by 7:00 PM on November 9, 2015. Checks or exact change only will be accepted, NO CREDIT CARDS! ~Poultry Exhibitors~ San Antonio, Houston & Austin Broilers: pick up on January 27, 2016. Check with Heidi for a specific time frame. BCYF Broiler: Due to CEO: November 2, $43.25 per set of 25 birds Birds will arrive on December 16th, must be picked up between 3:30-5:30 p.m. at CEO BCYF & Major Show Turkeys: Birds will arrive on November 10th and must be picked up this day at CEO. Look for more information from Heidi if you ordered birds on a time frame for pick up. BCYF Roaster: Birds will arrive on November 18th, must be picked up between 3:30-5:30 p.m. at CEO ~~ Major Show and County Swine Validation ~~ WHEN: November 23 & 24 at Bell County EXPO! TIME: 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. COST: State Validation tags should have already been ordered through the CEO. County only validated pigs will cost $5 per head. All breeding gilts must be validated We need all parents to be there to sign forms and to draw a map where animals are being kept. If a parent cannot be there, a parental waiver form must be signed before validation. The 24th Annual Holiday Classic Beef, Lamp, Goat & Swine Clinic and Prospect Show November 7-8, 2015 @ Bell County Expo Center, Belton, TX NO ENTRY FEES Open to all interested youth in 4-H and FFA. Youth must attend Saturday clinics to participate in Sunday showmanship and prospect shows. The Holiday Classic Clinics and Prospect Shows are intended to provide an educational opportunity for new families (4-H & FFA) participating in the livestock project area. The main purpose is to teach the basic principles of livestock management as they relate to facility maintenance, selection, nutrition, animal health, handling, showmanship, and transportation. Contact our office for more information. 4-H Livestock Coalition Meeting There will be a short 4-H Livestock Coalition Meeting on Tuesday, November 10th starting at 5:00 p.m. This meeting will take place at the Extension Office before the Hunter s Spectacular Recap meeting that starts at 6:00 p.m. We hope to see you there! Want to participate in a Calf Scramble at a Major Livestock Show? If you want to participate in any Calf Scramble at a Major Livestock Show, contact Heidi Prude at the CEO. Application deadline is November 15th. There are a few requirements that must be met to participate such as, you must be a minimum of 13 years of age and not a graduating senior. Rules and applications are posted on the Bell County 4-H Webpage. Bell County Youth Fair You MUST attend 2 meetings to participate in the BCYF. You MUST sign in on the sign in sheets for it to count. 2 meetings will be allowed from August 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. No meetings will be allowed in January to use for the 2 meeting rule. All 4-H members MUST be enrolled by December 1, 2015 to participate in the BCYF. However, the fee will go up after October 31 st so do it quickly.
