Lawrence County 4-H Clover Chatter A look back at FAIR! September 2017 To Make the Best BETTER Fair was a great success! Congratulations to all the winners, and I hope you all had fun. Check out our Facebook page (4-H Lawrence County) to see some of the fair fun that was captured. We had great weather for the fair this year. The BBQ was a success and you all did a great job at selling tickets. We had some top clubs selling tickets to earn a pizza party for an upcoming meeting in the new 4-H year. Our Federation did a great job at providing some new activities to the fair this year, and our hope is to grow in number of members and activities that they sponsor in the 2017-2018 4-H year. Page 9 There s still time to apply.. Whether you are a first-year 4-H member or tenured member with 7 or more years under your belt, many 4-H ers are currently working on their 4-H award applications for submission. Even 8-9 year old members can submit the NEW 4-H Experience Application and be eligible for 4-H recognition. Older members can submit both 4-H Experience Application, Illinois 4-H Award Application, State 4-H Key Award Application, and/or the Illinois 4-H LCP Award Application for recognition. The Illinois 4-H Experience Award Application for Individuals focuses on all of those events and activities that you have experienced during the 4-H year in four areas: Participation, Community Service, Leadership, and Project Learning. Depending upon the type and number of experiences you can report on, members are eligible to receive recognition on the Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond or Emerald Clover Award level. Your family calendar, 4-H records, checkmarks, and a few written details are all that s needed for even our youngest members to submit this application. This application can be found @ https://4h.extension.illinois.edu/ members/awards. Also found at that link is the Illinois 4-H State Award Application, the application for statewide competitive awards. Many counties also use this application for their county 4-H awards; check with your 4-H leader or local Extension office to check on your county s requirements. This application is also used for our state 4-H Award selection process, so those members who are 15 and above by September 1 are encouraged to check out this application. Members may apply in any or all of the five award categories: Communications, Community Service, Leadership, Personal Growth, and/or Project Mastery. State winners in these categories can receive educational scholarships or trips to national events. Several other 4-H award applications are also posted on that webpage; many for older members. The State 4-H Key Award Application is for members age 16 and above who challenge themselves in community service, leadership, and mentoring other members. The Illinois 4-H LCP Award Application, sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau and Affiliates, is for members ages 17-19 by December 1 who are involved in Leadership, Citizenship, and Professionalism. Check them out and contact your local Extension office for local deadlines and information.
