Prairie Bowmen February 2017 It is hard to believe that we are already looking forward to the warmer weather of spring. The winter leagues are approaching the halfway mark and we are beginning to plan for our spring shooting outdoors, and not to mention the Turkey season coming up next month. We hope you are enjoying archery to the fullest. We solicited opinions about where to hold our annual awards banquet. The overwhelming votes were to do a pot luck dinner so that members can just exchange ideas and share hunting stories. The date is Feb. 23 rd, at the indoor range starting at 6pm. A major focus is to recognize accomplishments from the previous year. There have already been a few game harvest nominations turned in but we would love to hear about more! A major highlight will be a raffle of some quality archery equipment donated by Tom Nauman with lots of help from Greg Gill and Rob Thompson. Only 200 tickets will be issued at $5 or 5 for $20, so the winning odds are good. Board members have tickets and only club members may participate. This is a chance to support our organization and a chance to win great prizes! Next week we host our first indoor 3D event and then the following week on Feb 18 th will be the first ever Best of the Best NASP tournament for local school archery teams. This should be lots of fun thanks to coordinator John F. Feb 16th and 17th will be a target invitational 300 round. As you review the 2018 calendar, please take note of all the variety in our various shooting events. It should be a great and fun year with something for each of you. We want to welcome our new members, and there have been several in recent weeks! If you have joined us and find there are questions about using our facilities, be sure to give one of us a call. Also please consider coming out to any of the organized events. You don t need to be competitive to shoot on a league night, and you may find that to be just the ticket to improving your skills. Besides that, it is fun. I just did it last week at the 3-D league even though I may not get back on a Thursday night again this year.

2018 Schedule February 16 th -17 th Target invitational 300 round March 10 th -11 th April 7 th - 8 th June 23 rd 24th 3-D indoor invitational 3-D outdoor invitational 3-D outdoor Invitational July 15th State NFAA Outdoor 900 August 11 th -12 th November 10 th -11 th December 14 th -16 th Annual Hunters Jamboree 3-D s etc. Target Invitational indoor 450 round Target Invitational indoor 450 round (**Note that our invitational events are qualifying events for the Shooter of the Year Awards in combination with Ahamo and Golden Arrow Archery Clubs.) **New Shooter Classes will occur quarterly on Tuesday evenings at the indoor range for 10 week sessions beginning April 2 nd, July 10 th and October 9 th. This includes JOAD, AAA NASP and any other beginners. 2018 is off to a good start! Thanks everyone who has been attending 3D league on Thursdays nights. This league will run 11 weeks in total so still plenty of time to attend. Pay attention to the emails for the list of other indoor tournaments!

This month is going to be a very busy one! The JOAD/beginner classes are back in full swing. On Feb 18 th we hosted the NASP tournament. It's great to see all the new faces, young and old on Tuesdays nights. If you know a youngster or an adult who might be interested in giving archery a try, feel free to bring them down! As of February 1 st we still have 6 weeks left of classes! These classes run from 6-7pm and 7-8pm on Tuesday nights. Cost is only $25, which covers the remaining classes and equipment if needed. Happy shooting and if you have any questions feel free to contact me at 402-992-0251. I m looking forward to starting off the New Year as the new Priaire Bowmen Range Master. I have selected 2 assistants which are Ryan Hajek and Justin Adams. There is lots of work that still needs done at the outdoor range! We are looking for volunteers to help with replacing shingles on the garage roof, updating the plywood sheets with a tin roof on both shelters. We are also looking to replace a bunch of fiberboard in the target backers. There are many improvements to be made but with the help of our members it can be done! Target league is off to a great start! Come on down if you are free on Mondays at 7pm!

1/3/2018 Board meeting was called to order at 7:05. Board members present were: Wes Sheets, Brian Krogman, John Filsinger, Sarah Ludwick, Adam Jirovsky, Joel Burham and Chris Benson. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved followed by the treasurer s report. Bowhunter: Joel reported that the indoor 3-D league started (1/4/18) @ 7pm. Target: Adam reported that the indoor Target league started Monday the 8 th at 7pm. Youth: John has a group of 30 Boy Scouts coming to the range next Tuesday (1/9/18) for an evening of pizza and shooting. Classes will start the following Tuesday (1/16/18) Range Master: Brian is continuing looking into some type of banner for the windows on the overhead door. Something to identify our club and possibly announce shoots. Old Business: Discussion was held regarding problems recently with members receiving correspondence from the club. Efforts are underway to alleviate the problem. We have a number of members who haven t provided their email addresses. If anyone changes their address or hasn t provided one, please let us know. New Business: It as decided to hold the Banquet on Friday, February 23 rd. The plan is to have it similar to last year, with pot luck. Last year that seemed to work out well. Emails were sent out about the banquet and to remind members to submit their archery game harvests for the awards! Bill Lewis has asked for a list of members emails to inform them of the Shooter of the Year program. Due to scheduling difficulties it was moved and seconded to drop the scheduled May shoot and change the 300 to 3-D the second weekend in March. Motion carried. Application for membership from Kevin Ulrich and family was received and approved.
