MAY 2013 3D PRACTICE RANGE NEW LOCATION The practice range is back up. Jake and I set it up on the top of the hill in the woods. If you drive past the pavilion and around the corner you can enter the range by walking up the hill. The animals are on both sides of the road. Please shoot no more than 2 arrows per person at each target. You can walk thru as many times as you would like but please limit it to 2 shots per trip thru.

CALLING ALL COWTOWN BOWMEN VOLUNTEERS!!! Mayfest is upon us once again and Cowtown Bowmen has been called upon to partner with Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept to man their archery booth at Mayfest. Last year we helped introduce over 2000 children to archery thru this program. If you can spare some time, please contact Joe [contact info below, email and phone] and sign up for one of the shifts available. Thank you in advance for all of those that step up to promote archery and Cowtown Bowmen. Without our continued efforts in educating young people about archery and the outdoor our sport lives on. Thank you, Chuck Hubbard From: Joe Crawford [mailto:jbarchunts@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 16, 2013 11:45 AM To: Hubbard, Chuck Subject: May Fest Volunteers It s that time again. TPWD is looking for some help at May Fest. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community if you have never done anything like this. Over the 4 days we will give about 2,ooo kids and adults the chance to shoot a bow. This is a very simple activity that anyone can help with. I challenge you to take just a few hours and introduce a kid to the sport we love. Times are: Thurs. May 2: 3:00-7:00 Fri. May 3: 3:00-7:00 Sat. May 4: 10:00-2:30...2:30-7:00 Sun. May 5: 11:00-3:00...3:00-7:00 Please let me know when you can attend. We will have free passes to May Fest. Any questions please call or email me. 817-781-1806 God Bless, Joe Crawford

COWTOWN CLUB SHOOT #2 We had a total of 78 shooters at this shoot, and have heard good response from the archers that we had a good course set up. Much thanks to all that came out and to our work party volunteers that stayed behind to pick up the targets: Bob Combest, Joe & Jake Crawford, Donnie & Jack Bowman, Geoff Klein & Kolton Mooney.

BELOW IS AN EMAIL FROM COWTOWN MEMBER DICK TITTERINGTON, CONCERNING COWTOWN S HELP AT THE POPE & YOUNG BANQUET ON APRIL 9 TH -13 TH, 2013. ANOTHER GREAT JOB COWTOWN VOLUNTEERS!!! Chuck, Just got back from the Pope & Young Biennium Convention, what a great event, as many members may know it was here in Dallas and we "Cowtown Bowmen" volunteered to man the NASP, National Archery in Schools Program shoot they had Friday afternoon. I was working security in the display area through out the week, and didn't happen to meet any fellow members? But do not know many. Bottom line is during the Saturday night awards banquet Roger Atwood, President, made a special point to acknowledge The "Cowtown Bowmen, again don't know if any others attended, and thank them for their participation in the NASP event. I also wanted to have the opportunity to pass along a membership application and brochure I scanned for the members not knowing the "Clubs" current relationship, ties etc. I also did not know if we as a local club are involved and to what degree in NASP as I had not seen anything on the site and am a new member. Regardless I am passing this along and would be happy to help any Cowtown members become a member of Pope & Young, I wish the copy turned out better I would like them to utilize me as a "reference" in joining as we have a membership drive ongoing, if they care to go to www.popeyoung.org and download a membership application, such as one in the attachment and list my name and membership #L0015. Thank You! Dick Titterington

COWTOWN BOWMEN CLUB Q & A Email Questions to cowtowncowpatty@live.com This is a new section of our newsletter that we will use to answer frequent questions regarding the club, meeting, funding for projects, volunteer opportunities, and range and facility rules. Please email all questions that you would like published to the above newsletter email account and we will do our best to get them in our next monthly newsletter. Question: During a 3D shoot, how many arrows do I shoot at each target? Answer: Typically, 3D shoots are 30 targets and the shooter fires one arrow at each target. There are exceptions like some of the traditional shoots we host, they are allowed a certain number of mulligans [do overs] in which the archer is allowed to shoot another arrow and take the second score, better or worse.
