Maywood Fine Arts 2015-2016 Parent Handbook WELCOME! Thank You For Choosing Maywood Fine Arts, Stairway of the Stars & Flip Flop & Fly! We are proud to offer you top quality Dance,Tumbling, Music, Drama, Art and Karate instruction in a safe and optimal learning environment. All of the teachers are looking forward to another great year and are always happy to speak with you regarding your children s advancement. Please understand that this is a continuous school year program. If you wish to drop a class, we ask you to notify the office by phone or email two weeks prior to beginning of the next session. Parents, here are some important policies that you need to know.. General Policies Child(ren) may not miss 2 classes in a 7 week session without notification. Maywood Fine Arts reserves the right to drop students after 2 weeks of missed classes or lessons without notification. All students must arrive on time. Any student arriving late may be asked not to participate. If a music student arrives after fifteen minutes into their lesson, the instructor reserves the right to cancel lesson upon arrival. For everyone s safety, all children must be accompanied by an adult or guardian 18 years or older when coming to class as well as leaving after class. Students must be dressed properly and be equipped for all classes. Maywood Fine Arts may photograph classes, events and performances. Maywood Fine Arts retains the rights to any and all photographs or video footage. It is your responsibility to inform Maywood Fine Arts of any changes/updates in your contact information. Dance - Costume payments for the June recital must be made by Saturday, December 12, 2015. Costume payments are nonrefundable even if the student drops before the performance (studio will retain the costume). A late fee of $20.00 will be applied if this payment is not made on time. Tumbling - All tumblers are required to participate in the Flying High Competition. A small fee will be due by Saturday, March 19, 2016. If it is not paid by this date a $5.00 late fee will be applied. Music - There are no make-up lessons for music students. If you cancel a lesson it will not be made up. If the teacher must miss a lesson and Maywood Fine Arts cannot arrange for a substitute teacher the class will be prorated. Karate - There is an additional fee for any new colored karate belt earned during the year.

Stairway Dance Studio Policies Attendance is mandatory for classroom work and preparation for all recitals. Any child with poor attendance or 2 absentees in a row may be asked not to participate in finishing the year or performing in any final recitals. Uniforms are required for all classes. Leotards, tights, ballet shoes and tap shoes for all dance combination classes. Black leotards, pink tights and pink ballet shoes for all strict ballet classes. Only Pink ballet shoes purchased at Stairway or approved by Stairway will be accepted. Label your shoes! Boy dancers are required to wear sweat pants (no jeans!) and T-shirts. Boy s tap shoes must be black & white spectator taps. All Stairway dancers will participate in our annual dance show held at the end of June 2016. All ballet dancers who have completed the year will participate in our annual classical ballet performance, unless you are attending a non-performing class. If costume fees are not paid on time or tuition is not up to date Stairway will not order your costume and cannot guarantee your dancer a costume for the June recital. Final tuition, extra costume fees, past bills and ticket money must be paid before recitals or your dancer may be pulled from our shows. Stairway of the Stars reserves the right to place children in the proper (appropriate) end of the year performance. Based on size and ability as the staff has determined. Special rehearsals may be called before any/all performances. We ask all parents to stay well informed on rehearsal schedules.

Flip Flop & Fly Tumbling School Policies Attendance is mandatory, anyone with excessive absences may be asked not to complete the year or participate in the Flying High Competition. All tumblers who have completed the year will participate in our annual Flying High Competition in April 2016. An entry fee is required and is due by March 19, 2016. Uniforms are required for all classes. Girls are required to wear a Flip Flop & Fly unitard and tumbling shoes. No accessories please (jewelry, shirts), long hair MUST be tied up. Boys are required to wear a Flip Flop & Fly T-Shirt and white shorts and tumbling shoes. Label your uniforms and shoes! This uniform will be used in the tumbling competition. Make-ups depend on safety concerns, space, equipment, and teaching ratios. We view make-ups as a privilege, not a right. Special rehearsals may be called before any/all performances. We ask all parents to stay well informed on rehearsal schedules. Competition Team Program Members of the Competition Team are determined by invitation ONLY! As children progress to the competitive team, they learn to appreciate their own abilities and responsibilities preparing them for competition. The team is structured according to USTA and AAU guidelines.

Karate Policies Attendance is mandatory, anyone with excessive absentees may not be able to continue in the class and may not be ready for the next Belt Promotion. Make-ups depend on safety concerns, space, equipment, and teaching ratios. We view makeups as a privilege, not a right. Uniforms are required for all classes. Karate Gis are worn by both boys and girls. Be sure to label your uniforms! Belt Promotions will occur througout the year. There will be an additional fee for each belt test taken. Music Policies Bring your child to class early. Also, make sure they bring the necessary items: music books, pencils, and notebook. We encourage parents to wait for their children so they can meet with the teacher after the lesson. Practice, Practice, Practice If your child is to benefit from lessons once a week, he/she must practice a minimum of 30 minutes, 5 days a week. We suggest that you set a time for practice and practice at that same time every day. Holiday Recitals will be held Monday December 14th through Saturday December 19th. Students will perform on the day of their lessons. Spring Recitals will be held near the end of May Youger Student must have the ability to recognize and identify letters of the alphabet as well as be independently toilet learned.

Drama Policies Attendance is mandatory for classroom work and preparation for all performances. All students who have completed the year will participate in the annual Final Drama Show. Special rehearsals may be called before any/all performances. We ask all parents to stay well informed on rehearsal schedules. The Holiday Drama Show will be in early December 2015 and The Final Drama Show will be early May 2016. Art Policies Making art can be messy. There is no uniform requirement for Art classes but it is recommended that each student bring an old shirt to wear during class. Holiday Art Shows will be held Monday December 14th through Saturday December 19th. Students art work will be displayed on the day of their classes. Tuition Policies The first session tuition is due upon registration. The following sessions are due by: 2 nd Session October 17, 2015 3rd Session December 12, 2015 4 th Session February 13, 2016 5th Session April 9, 2016 If tuition is not paid by the due date there will be a $20 late fee added. Tumbling and Karate students are required to purchase an AAU membership for the season. If tuition is not paid by two weeks after the session s due date your child will not be able to participate in their class. MFA accepts cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard and debit card payments. Payments can be made at the MFA office or at Stairway of the Stars. Children will not be able to participate in any performances, recitals, competitions or events until all tuition and additional balances have been paid in full. Costumes, uniforms or music books/accessories may not be picked up until fees are paid in full. No refunds will given for missed classes. There is a $20.00 charge for late tuition. There is a $25.00 charge for returned checks.
