Nippers on Sunday Mornings in 2016/2017 1. OBJECTIVE At Coolum Beach Nippers we aim to cater for all kids, whether they want to race, become lifesavers or just learn how to be safe in and enjoy the surf. Sunday activities are about building skills in a fun environment. Nippers will practice essential skills for each area in an engaging and fun way not always just running through a sprint race or board race. This will be easier to do on the beach then in the water BUT when in the water Age Managers and Coaches will break down the different sections to the skill eg: starts, popping, catching waves, paddling, and team relays etc. Nippers that want to learn to race or develop their skills further can also attend the various board, swim and beach training sessions that will be held through the week during the season. Check the Nippers calendar on the website and watch for emails and texts from the club for training times. Remember: If our Nippers eyes are shining we are doing it right. 2. ALWAYS ON The weather would have to be pretty awful for us to cancel completely. If it is too dangerous to get in the water we will run beach activities and if the numbers are small we will combine groups. It is a good opportunity for the older Nippers to pass on some skills to the younger Nippers. This year we are going to experiment with running Nippers on Sunday even if there is a carnival on the Saturday. This is for those Nippers who do not want to go to carnivals. It is an experiment because many of the volunteers that go to the carnival on the Saturday will need to back up on Sunday morning. That is a lot of a weekend to give up to Nippers so we are definitely going to need parents/ carers help on those Sundays.
We will not run Nippers if there is a Carnival on the Sunday, we just do not have the personnel to do both. 3. RUNNING SHEET For the 2016/17 season we are making some subtle changes to help Sundays run smoothly. Our commitment to you is to run to time. 4. ACTIVITIES ROSTER This year Jarrod Sweetman will be helping us with the education program as a separate rotation. In education Nippers will learn about the club and the beach, about how to stay safe and where to go if there is an issue. Older Nippers will learn a little first aid. Our focus on all activities is for our Nippers to learn and have fun. Sunday Activities will run on a 4 week rotation: Week 1 Roster U12 & 13/14 U8 & U9 U10 Green & U11 Week 2 Roster Green & U11 U12 & 13/14 U8 & U9 U10 Week 3 Roster U10 Green & U11 U12 & 13/14 U8 & U9

WEEKLY ROSTER & VOLUNTEERS Nippers does not work without Volunteers. The Committee, Age Managers, Coaches and Water Safety are all volunteers. Things run more smoothly, and the Nippers have more fun, when the Parents get involved in some way. Each week we need help to set up, pack up and feed the masses at the BBQ. To ensure that everyone gets a go this year we have created a rotation system. Parents, please, please, please introduce yourself to your age manager and volunteer to help when it is your groups turn. Things that need to be done are: Set Up Under the instruction of the Age Manager: Place age group flags on beach (including gear crates and sign on sheets)
Set out Run, Swim & Board areas location as directed by water safety co-ordinator Set up the Marquee on the beach Help kids safely remove boards from the gear shed Note: Age flags, sign on sheets and Nipper towels and water bottles should move with the Nippers as they move from activity to activity (to help parents/carers know where their child s group is). BBQ Under the instruction of Chrissie, our BBQ guru: Cook Take money Pack Up Help the kids wash boards and put them back in the gear shed without damaging them. Help pack and tidy the gear shed. CARNIVALS Carnivals are a great opportunity to practice some of the skills we learn on the beach and compete against Nippers from other clubs in the region (from Redcliffe in the South to Rainbow Beach in the North). We will start collecting nominations 4 weeks out. The nomination sheets for each carnival will be with Age Managers on Sunday mornings. Remember Coolum Nippers covers the entry fee for each Nipper at carnivals and we provide a Coolum SLSC skull cap. Nippers will be required to compete in Coolum Nippers swimwear, which can be purchased from the club.
