Springton News... Dear Members, We are proud to be entering our 42nd tennis season and we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your past and present support. Because of your support we have been able to establish Springton Tennis Club as a gathering place for friends, families and competitors to share their passion for tennis. This season all members will receive a new picture ID due to a problem with the bar-code last season. We will be using the existing picture we have on file. There will be a $5.00 replacement fee for the lost cards. Pickleball - A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and slightly modified tennis net. Pickleball is played with a paddle and plastic ball with holes. It can be played as doubles or singles. We will be offering Pickleball this season. See clinic page. The 9th Annual Ladies Welcome Back Luncheon will be held Friday, September 15, 2017. The last eight have been a huge success so don t wait to register. Just fill out the application on the back of the brochure and mail it in with the registration fee...first-come...first-serve. We are again hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 16 for anyone wanting to visit the club and meet our staff and tennis pros. Also take the opportunity to check out the Adult and Junior programs. Our 33-week 2017/2018 Tennis Season will begin on Saturday, September 16, 2017, with the last day of play on Friday, May 11, 2018. Memberships are due by September 1, 2017 and are not refundable. This season, contract time will not be in effect from Sunday, December 24, 2017, through January 1, 2018, inclusive. (Your contract time is 33 weeks.) During this period our courts will be available for open-time play and holiday events. This is also the perfect time to use your holiday make-up cards. Members who do not wish to play on their religious holidays must advise the office two weeks in advance in order to receive a make-up card. Enclosed, all group captains will find a statement of their balance due for contract time and memberships for the 2017/2018 season. Group captains are solely responsible for collecting and presenting all amounts due the club (INCLUDING MEMBERSHIP FEES, $90.00 per person) by September 1, 2017. Deposits are not refundable unless court time is canceled in writing prior to September 1, 2017, and resold on a seasonal basis by September 16, 2017. Once again, our ball plan is available to contract groups for $100.00 for the contract season. Our supervised nursery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm at a cost of $3.00 per day per family. A letter will be available detailing nursery regulations and holiday party dates. ALL PARTICIPATING PLAYERS IN A CONTRACT GROUP MUST BE MEMBERS OF SPRINGTON TENNIS CLUB and will be issued a picture membership card which must be scanned at the front desk upon entering the club. We appreciate your cooperation on scanning your membership card. Our rules are provided to protect and benefit our members. Contract players may not share memberships. Non-members may play for free, as a guest, three times yearly in a contract by signing in at the front desk before playing. Subsequent visits require paying a $10.00 guest fee. We would appreciate it if group captains would inform their playing partners as to the club s policies regarding memberships, membership cards, and guest fees. Just a reminder...black-soled sneakers are not permitted on the tennis courts because they leave permanent marks. In order to maintain the quality of our courts, we would ask everyone to refrain from taking coffee and beverages, other than water, onto the playing surface. Proper tennis attire is required. Adult & children lessons and clinics How Pickle-Ball Came To Be The Birth of Pickle-Ball Pickle-Ball is a game for the whole family. So it s only fitting that it was invented by a family, too. The game got its start back in 1965, in Bainbridge Island, just a short ferry ride away from Seattle, WA. When Congressman Joel Pritchard, William Bell and Barney McCallum came home from a game of golf one day to find their kids bored and restless, they set out to create a game that would engage them through the lazy days of summer. They wanted to create a game that would be challenging, but still accessible. They handed the kids table tennis paddles and a wiffle ball, and lowered the net on their badminton court. In the coming days both kids and adults alike fell in love with the game, and as they played the rules evolved (to include the non-volley zone, for instance) and solidified to their present incarnation.
