4-H Enrollment 4-H Enrollment started August 15th!!! All enrollment is done via 4-H Connect. You can access 4-H Connect by going to our 4-H website at http://agrilife.org/bell4h/ and clicking on the 4-H Connect icon. To maintain the level of programming and opportunities in the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program, an annual participant fee is implemented for each 4-H member (excluding Clover Kids). The participant fee is $20 if enrolled from August 15th to October 31st, November 1st the participant fee will increase to $25. For instructions on how to enroll, please visit: http://agrilife.org/bell4h/4-henrollment-guidelines/4-h-enrollment-information/ All volunteers who enroll will be charged $5.00 each volunteer. This covers your screening for the year. All volunteers will have to enroll each year. If you have further questions, please contact the County Extension Office at: 254-933-5305 Upcoming Events Ag Product ID Practice The next Ag Product ID practice will take place on Thursday, October 29th at the CEO. Tractor Supply Clover Campaign The TSC Clover Campaign will start on October 7 18, 2015. We are fortunate in having 2 stores in the county: Killeen and Temple. The paper clovers cost is $1 and a percentage of each clover sale goes back to Bell County 4-H. Membership Advisory Board Meeting All MAB officers will need to attend the next Membership Advisory Board Meeting on Tuesday, October 27th at the CEO. County Council & Ambassadors Nature Fest Central Texas Master Naturalist Chapter will host the Central Texas Nature Fest at Bend of the River Park in Temple on Saturday, October 10 th from 11:00am-5:00pm. They want 4-H members to help lead the nature hike! Let Sheryl know if this is something you are interested in doing! This would be a great way to get Ambassador Hours! MADD Walk Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is having a fundraiser walk on Sunday, October 18th at West Temple Park. They are wanting some 4-H members to work the Lemonade Stand that day from 12:00 6:00 p.m. Another great way to earn Ambassador Hours! Let Sheryl know if you would like to participate. Ambassador Meeting We will have a quick 4-H Ambassador meeting on Tuesday, October 27th form 5-6 p.m. (right before the MAB meeting) Please update your hours sheet before this meeting. See you then! County Council Meeting The next County Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 17th at the CEO. This meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. The program will cover the 4-H Recordbooks and the community service project will be collecting items for the local animal shelters. FCS Project News Healthy Lifestyles Advisory Board Meeting The next HLAB meeting will take place on Thursday, October 15ht at the CEO. This meeting will start at 5:30 pm FCS Leader Training Calling all 4-H FCS Volunteers or potential volunteers! There will be a FCS Leader Training on Wednesday, October 7th at the CEO. This training will cover all and any 4-H FCS Projects. We will be serving participants a salad supper for those attending starting at 5:30 p.m. Hope to see you there! Community Service Project Opportunity! The Bell County Children s Advocacy Center is in need of new fleece blankets for the children. FCS Project News ~Bell County 4-H Fashion Show~ The Bell County 4-H Fashion Show Contest will take place on Tuesday, October 20th. This contest will take place at the First Methodist Church of Belton starting at 4:00 p.m. County Fashion Show entries are due to Scarlot at the CEO by Tuesday, October 13th. Please check the Bell County 4-H Website for entry forms. Winners of this contest will advance to the District 8 contest on November 18th at the Bell County Expo! ~Bell County Storyboards Contest~ Any 4-H member wanting to participate in the Bell County Storyboard contest, must have their boards turned into the CEO by Monday, October 26th. Winners will advance to the District 8 contest and those winners will be announced on November 18th at the Bell County Expo! ~Bell County Duds to Dazzle Contest~ The Bell County Duds to Dazzle contest will be held on Wednesday, October 28th at the CEO. County Duds to Dazzle entries are due to Scarlot at the CEO by Friday, October 23rd. Winners of the county contest will advance to the District 8 contest on November 18th at the Bell County Expo! This is a team event. If you need help finding a team, contact Jackie McLaughlin or Sheryl Raley. ~Bell County Food Show/Food Challenge Contest~ The Bell County Food Show and Food Challenge contests will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd. Food Challenge is for all 4-H Grade levels, Food Show is just for Senior aged members. The location of the county contest will be announced soon! Entries will be due to the CEO by October 26th. Please check the Bell County 4-H website for county entry forms. Winners of the county contest will advance to the District 8 contest on December 2nd at the Bell County Expo! Christmas Candy & Cookie Workshop We will host a Christmas Candy & Cookie Workshop on Saturday, November 21st at the Ronald McDonald House. This workshop will take place from 9 a.m. till noon. The candy and cookies made at this workshop will then be given to the residents of the Ronald McDonald House. This is a great community service project! Livestock Project News ~~ Major Show Lamb and Goat Validation ~~ WHEN: October 20th & October 26th at Bell County EXPO! TIME: 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. COST: State Validation tags should have already been ordered through the CEO, if you have not purchased a tag and need to, you must contact Heidi Prude ASAP! County tags will be $5 per animal at validation Families that ordered Major Show tags can come by the CEO before October 20th to fill out their state validation paperwork. You will appreciate this come validation night! ~~ Major Show Heifer Validation ~~ WHEN: October 21st at Bell County EXPO! TIME: 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. COST: $12 per head, money can be submitted at validation 4-H members must come by the CEO BEFORE the validation date to fill out paperwork. We must scan and upload ORIGINAL heifer registration papers before validation as well. This will make validation run more efficient and quicker. Non-registered heifers, to be shown at Bell County Youth Fair ONLY, will be permitted to county validate those heifers for $5/head. County only tags will be purchased on-site the night of validation. ~Poultry Exhibitors~ San Antonio, Houston & Austin Broilers: we will notify those families who ordered birds when they will be available for pick up BCYF Roaster: Birds will arrive on November 18th, must be picked up between 3:30-5:30 p.m. at CEO BCYF Broiler: Due to CEO: November 2, $43.25 per set of 25 birds Birds will arrive on December 16th, must be picked up between 3:30-5:30 p.m. at CEO ~~ Spring 2015 Major Show Sign Up ~~ WHEN: November 2, 2015 and November 9, 2015 at the CEO TIME: 4-7 PM Entry forms for all 2016 Spring Major shows (Fort Worth, San Angelo. San Antonio, Houston, Austin) will be available for pick-up from Heidi and Sheryl at the extension office beginning October 19, 2015. All completed forms and payment must be turned in to Heidi or Sheryl at the extension office by 7:00 PM on November 9, 2015. Checks or exact change only will be accepted, NO CREDIT CARDS! ~~ Major Show and County Swine Validation ~~ WHEN: November 23 & 24 at Bell County EXPO! TIME: 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. COST: State Validation tags should have already been ordered through the CEO. County only validated pigs will cost $5 per head. We need all parents to be there to sign forms and to draw a map where animals are being kept. If a parent cannot be there, a parental waiver form must be signed before validation. Youth must attend Saturday clinics to participate in Sunday showmanship and prospect shows. The Holiday Classic Clinics and Prospect Shows are intended to provide an educational opportunity for new families (4-H & FFA) participating in the livestock project area. The main purpose is to teach the basic principles of livestock management as they relate to facility maintenance, selection, nutrition, animal health, handling, showmanship, and transportation. Contact our office for more information. Bell County Youth Fair You MUST attend 2 meetings to participate in the BCYF. You MUST sign in on the sign in sheets for it to count. 2 meetings will be allowed from August 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015. No meetings will be allowed in January to use for the 2 meeting rule. All 4-H members MUST be enrolled by December 1, 2015 to participate in the BCYF. However, the fee will go up after October 31 st so do it quickly.
