Revised 07/2017 Purpose: To encourage public service students to develop the skills to don firefighter protective gear. Description of Event: Competitors will simulate being awakened and prepare for a fire as quickly as possible. Before time starts, students will lay down in a simulated bed with their shoes off. When time starts, the student will put on their shoes, run from their bunk to the dressing area, and don all the required gear. When the student is done, time stops. The competition can include donning of the SCBA if available. Limit: 4 competitors per First Responder Chapter, unless otherwise allowed Dress Code: Appropriate dress to include; business attire, chapter uniform or other attire appropriate for the competition, or as directed by your chapter advisor. Rules: Prior to the race, competitors will be allowed to set up and don gear in a marked square dressing box. The competitor can set up the gear in any fashion, as long as proper donning can be completed safety and no equipment is outside the box. Once gear is set and inspected, the competitor may not touch it until after time starts. If optional SCBA is used, tank harness and mask must be also properly prepared and donned. During the event, the competitor must enter and remain inside the box. Failure to stay in the dressing box results in a penalty per infraction. Next, the competitor lies down in a simulated bed, approximately 50 feet away from the dressing box. They must remove their shoes. When time starts, the competitor puts on their shoes and runs to the dressing box. Shoes must be on the entire run and when entering the box. The competitor removes their shoes and dons the gear. Time is stopped when competitor indicates they are done and claps his or her hands together. No other adjustments may be made after clapping. If SCBA is used, they don the complete tank and mask ensemble. They will not go on air ; the regulator must be properly secured in belt harness. Penalties: 10 seconds shall be added to the final time for the following reasons: Shoes not worn or not properly worn when entering dressing box Improperly connected closure device Visor not down Helmet flaps not down Page 1 of 5

Chin strap not adjusted or in place Wristlets not in place Gloves improperly worn Suspenders not worn or exposed Hood not tucked in or not worn properly Collar not closed or not in up position Unsafe action including falling during event: disqualified Exposed skin or unsafe act: disqualified With optional SCBA: Mask not worn: disqualified Mask straps twisted: 10 seconds per infraction Hood not properly covering mask or covering vision: 10 seconds Straps not connected: 20 seconds per infraction Straps not properly adjusted: 10 seconds per infraction Straps twisted: 10 seconds per infraction Regulator not properly stowed on harness mount: 10 seconds Required Personnel: Chairperson Proctor Recorder Participants Facilities and Equipment: The equipment must be approved, in-service gear and shall include: 1. Fire bunker coat with liner, wristlets and collar 2. Fire bunker pants, liner and suspenders 3. Fire boots 4. Structural firefighting gloves 5. Fire protective hood 6. Fire helmet with protective ear flap, chin strap and visor or goggles 7. Optional SCBA and mask (this element may be omitted if no SCBA is available) Page 2 of 5
