Sweeper Rota If any of the sweepers are unable to attend their sessions, can they please either: 1. find a replacement (swap with a colleague) or 2. contact the coaches or coaches@victoryac.org.uk You don t need to be big, fast or a 10-year vet to volunteer to be a sweeper. Please let me know at coaches@victoryac.org.uk if you would like to volunteer. Also, if you want to come off the rota - I ll assume no correspondence means you are happy Details about the regular Tuesday and Thursday training sessions are available here VAC Club Charity Relay - Hayling Island 21st August 2016 by Pete Harding This years Charity relay will take place on Sunday 1st August 2016 starting and finishing at Northeney Village Hall. The course will be anti-clockwise and this year we will have 4 runners per team. This is intended to encourage some of our new runners to take part. So most runners will only run circa 6 miles which is well within the capability of all current club runners. John Gallagher will use his magic spreadsheet to allocate team handicaps! This is a fun day "competing" against your fellow club members followed by a BBQ and /or picnic. You also get to see parts of Hayling Island you didn't know existed! Maps and further details including dates of recce'ing routes will be issuesd soon. Please give names to Dave Lown or Pete Harding. We will also require marshals and other helpers. Hayling to Le Mans (and back!) Charity Cycle Ride, 10-16 July by Marilyn Crocker Yes I've signed up again this year for the two-way ride cycling from St Malo to Le Mans (not Paris this year) then back via Ouistreham (Caen) - 400ish miles over 5 days (gulp!). Plus a few miles in England before and after, cycling between Hayling Island and the Portsmouth ferry terminal. Hoping for some better weather...! For this event, riders can choose their own charity, and I've chosen to raise money for Cancer Research UK. If you'd like to sponsor me, I can add pledges to a traditional paper form, or you can donate online at: http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/marilyncrocker For local supporters, all of the returning riders will be blocking the roads on Hayling Island sometime in the afternoon of Saturday 16 July (15:00 ish?), cycling to a reception at the Royal British Legion (in Legion Road) on Hayling. Friends and family welcome. Page! 2 of 10!
Short Handicap Race 4 by Jan MacDonald Congratulations to Brian Millo who was a convincing winner of the 4th Short Handicap knocking over 2.5 minutes from his handicap. Mandy Coles also put in a good run and another 14 people beat their handicap times. Well done to them. Welcome to Rachel Duffy, Sara Heath and Amanda Rudkin who ran the Short Handicap for the first time. Thank you to James Tolson, Yvonne, Nicola, Kevin and Hamid for all their help before, during and after the race which allowed me to run it for the first time for over 2 years. Much appreciated. Series Results After 4 Races A Q in the final column denotes those runners who have completed at least 4 races and so qualify for a final position in the series. Matt has taken an early lead amongst those who have run all the races so far but, with 3 more races to go, the field is wide open. Here s hoping for another good turnout next month. See http://www.victoryac.org.uk/documents/ Ian_Murray_Short_Handicap_2016_series_results_to_date.pdf for details. Page! 5 of 10!
