"We've been waiting our whole lives for this opportunity to represent the black & gold in this league. Our off season workouts needed to start paying dividends and I think we showed that tonite" said Cali Quinlan while enjoying her postgame Muscle Milk. The Lady Tigers, who were recently blanked in their last CAA game, came out of the gates quickly with smothering defense and the mindset to push the tempo. Taking on a DaVinci Academy White squad, the Tigers got off to a fast start and headed to the halftime up 10-4. It was then that an emotional Coach Scott Johnson delivered a speech that would resonate with the girls "you were born to be basketball players and you were meant to be here today. This is your time" Coach Johnson would tell them. And the Lady Tigers were not to be denied their first win of the year. The Tigers kept up the pressure and closed out a 14-6 victory. Offensively the girls showed a balanced attack and it was a true team win. "Things are starting to come together, starting to click a little " said Abby Moris "we need to keep the focus as we head to Gethsemane" Dateline: Hornets Nest Pavilion at Gethsemane Lutheran: Monday, Jan 4th: The "Run/Gun/ Have Some Fun" 5th grade Lady Tigers headed West for the ESPN4 Primetime "Game of the Week" matchup with a tough Gethsemane Hornets squad. "Big, physical, tempo driven team. Tough match-up for us but we'll throw the ball up and see what happens" said Kara Sheeser while getting her ankle taped before the game. And the Tigers came out quickly getting the lead at 6-2. But a few missed lay-ups and a breakdown on defense caused the game to get tied at 12 late in the 2nd half. "We took a step back there a little in the 2nd half, we didn't call out our switches and failed to put the biscuit in the basket" said Emily Rippentrop " and you can't do that with this type of team as they will make you pay for it". The game ended as a loss 18-12 but you can tell this team continues to make strides. "Coach says we just need to turn up the intensity at practice, get the focus back on consistency, and things will work out" remarked Addie Teeters "and we'll get back to practice on Thursday to work on these correctable mistakes". Up next: The Lady Tigers take their talents back to White Castle Coliseum at ICS for a Saturday battle vs. Columbia Heights White at 4:25pm. Monday's game is in reschedule stage but the Lady Tigers will face St Anne's of Hastings in a classic old school CAA matchup next week. Stay tuned.

Tigers Girls Basketball Tigers Boys Basketball Our Tournament is 01/08 & 09 for 6th grade T I G E R S BOYS BASKETBA L L NEWS 8th Grade Ted the Tiger back once again to bring you the weekly news for the 8 th grade basketball team. I gotta tell you, that Christmas break was great but this tiger put on about 10 extra pounds. All I did was eat, drink milk and play on the Xbox 1 I got for Christmas. It feels good to get back onto the court with the boys. On Wednesday, we hosted Presentation at Mount Tabor Hall. The anticipation of this game was high. Presentation has always been a tough team to play and you just don t know what to expect after a two week hiatus. The boys came out focused but the score did not reflect the play with a 0-0 score after about five minutes into the game. But the boys then turned it up on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. Two of our starters found themselves in a little foul trouble about midway through the half so our bench had to step in and pick up where they left off and boy did they. Luke McCarthy to shouts of Luke, Luke, Luke from the crowd - rattled off three offensive rebounds with three put backs for scores and Sam Hernandez and Drew Eberlein stepped up their defensive intensity to help the Tigers go into halftime with a 19-15 lead. I decided to go work off some of those Christmas break calories and perform my best breakdancing moves at halftime for the crowd Breakin is still one of my favorite movies. I busted a move all over the court doing the headspin, windmill, jackhammer and the worm. The second half found the boys continuing their solid team play that they displayed in the first half. However, Coach S must have said something about the ref s mother because he ended up getting a technical foul called against him. Now, I didn t see or hear what Coach S said, but I think it had something to do with the ref not calling one of their players out of bounds who was so far out that he could have ordered a kiddie cocktail from the bartender at the Bierstube. But the team was not fazed by the distraction and continued their strong play with Luke McCarthy showcasing his Shaquille O neal-like blocking ability. The boys came away with a 41-33 victory with a very balanced scoring attack by the team. Volunteer Hours?? In need of Volunteer hours?? We are in need of many volunteers!! The basketball season has begun. Watch Sign Up Genius for dates and times for scoreboard and score book. 7th Grade Its been a tough start for the 7th Grade squad although only 3 games into the season. "We just haven't been able to get in a flow" said Max Yanz during the All Star Break "but we've reported to the gym and worked out some things. Correctable mistakes is what Coach Votel calls them and we all agree". After losing their first 3 games of the year all by close margins, the Tiger squad set a goal of "Refocus, ReCommit, Rebirth". And the turning of the page into 2016 might just be the ticket for this squad. After some rescheduling, the 7th Grade Tigers will play 5 games in the next 6 days starting with the St Pats of Hudson "Tip Off Classic" in Hudson, WI this weekend. Game times: Saturday: 10:15am vs. St Pats of Hudson, 5:45pm vs. St Croix Catholic, and Sunday 2:45pm vs. New Life Academy. The Tigers will then host CPA at Mt Tabor on Tuesday, Jan 12th at 4pm. "Crowd should be rockin, its Andy Jacobson Bobblehead night and they are giving out a $8 Hyvee Gift Card for anyone making a half court shot at halftime, so the fans will be there" said Joey Manor "we just need to provide them a reason to cheer". On Thursday Jan 14th, the squad will head down I494 to New Life Academy to take on the Fighting Salamanders in a hostile road game kicking off at 4pm.

The Tigers worked consistently on defense which led to a win and a final score of 11-8. Great work, boys! At Monday nights regular season game, the boys faced St. John's the Baptist in New Brighton. Out of the gates, St. John's set the pace for a challenging game situation by their impressive shooting and out rebounding the Tigers. The Tigers gained momentum in the second half by a better mind set and showing more grit on the court. Several great shots were made including some break away lay-ups. The Tigers fought hard, but ended up losing the game 55-32. Coach Manor continues to encourage the team to apply strategies their learning during practices in game situations. As they gain more game experience, this team will no doubt be successful! Next up: the 5th graders will participate in the 6th grade tournament this weekend at Transfiguration. The first game will be played Friday night at 7:00pm followed by two games Saturday at 11:00am and 3:00pm. Good Luck, boys! They play Sunday in the IC league at 3:20pm. Volunteer Hours?? In need of Volunteer hours?? We are in need of many volunteers!! TIGERS HOCKEY NEWS The Tiger hockey team has teamed up with Frassati this season. They faced the always strong Nativity team in their first game of the season. It took the team over a period to get familiarized with each other. Despite playing well in the last half of the game, the team couldn't overcome the slow start and ended up loosing 1-10 with the only goal coming from Max Hiestand. The next game for the hockey team is 5:00 pm on January 13th at the Groveland ice rink against St John Baptist. The basketball season has begun.
