Cedarwood Preparatory 15 October 2014 Weekly Newsletter From the Headmistress Dear Parents This term is running away with us at a rapid rate can you believe it is half term already? The children will celebrate with a Civvies day tomorrow, for which they must pay R10, which will be donated to charity. School will close at 11.30am/12 noon, and we hope you enjoy this little minibreak with your family. As you will see from the sports report below, the Cedarwood children have been very busy! Staff who have been at Cedarwood for eight years or more can still remember the days when Cedarwood lost just about every single match/event, and the sports facilities were pretty much non-existent. How many of you remember when the car park used to be a bumpy field and the extra mural programme was very limited? Look at us now! Congratulations must go to Oliver Ngwenya and his team who have brought sport to life for so many children at Cedarwood. Our ethos of participation and enjoyment ensures that every child gets an opportunity to represent the school and wear the sports kit with pride. Our College matric students begin their final examinations next week. It is very exciting to be part of this first ever matric cohort and we wish them all the best of luck. On certain days, the tuckshop will operate from the prep campus as we would like the noise levels to be as quiet as possible for the students. God Bless Jayne Eurelle Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work - Aristotle ASSEMBLY NEWS Thank you to Grade 2A for their lovely assembly on Manners. Our next assembly, on the 27th October, will be presented by Grade 1W. All parents and visitors are welcome to attend. Assembly begins at 07h30. We look forward to seeing you there.

Mini-Cricket Cedarwood Preparatory Weekly Newsletter 15 October 2014 Thursday, 16 October Close for Half Term @ 11:30am/12 noon Civvies Day - R10 - Denim and blue Tuesday, 21 October Return from Half Term Wednesday, 22 October Grade R visit to the Bird Park From the Sports Desk As we approach the mid term break, there are a few reminders to share with you. After the break, we commence swimming both during school as well as an extra mural. For swimming during sports lessons, kindly note that there will be specific days in which swimming will be done and others in which the class will be doing general sports. This varies from class to class. Kindly communicate with your child's class teacher. The extra mural swimming is divided into two, there is team swimming and non team swimming. Please note that while we may like our children to participate in team swimming, selection to participate in a gala will not necessarily be guaranteed as there will be many children participating in the sport and this term we have only three meets to participate in. Kindly bear with the swimming coaches. As far as the non team swimming extra mural is concerned, please note that only water safe children will be accepted as there is not enough personnel to monitor swimmers individually. May I also take this opportunity to remind you that all children will participate in a swimming gala on the 20th of November when we have our annual inter-house swimming gala. Another reminder is that we will be having our Sports Awards Assembly on Monday the 17th of November when we will be rewarding our sports people for a good sporting year. Please find time to attend. It will be worth it. The following is a report of the sporting events from last week. On Monday, we travelled to Northsands for a softball match. Even though the match ended in a draw, our players played well and their behaviour was good. On Wednesday, the cricket team returned to Northsands for a senior boys match. We did not start the match well with our top order batsmen falling for a low score. However, our middle order batsman helped us recover and we won the match by six wickets. Thursday saw the athletics team travel to Orion College for the last meet of the year. They ran beautifully, as always, resulting in our team winning by a margin of more than 150 points. The mini cricket team played at Northsands on Friday. They all played well and won their match convincingly by 51 points against Northsands' 43. Please note that there are no matches this week as we are on a bye. We resume matches after the mid term break when we will start on swimming. Oliver Ngwenya
