PHOENIX STARTING FIVE Game #20 vs. Oakland January 28, 2016 7 PM (CT) Resch Center Horizon League All-Time: 5-1 17-2, 7-0 HL 11-7, 3-4 HL LAST 23 IN THE LEAGUE Green Bay owns a 22-1 record in Horizon League tilts dating back to the beginning of the 2014-15 Horizon League slate. The Phoenix s only loss during that span came at home to Oakland on Feb. 4th of last season, 70-67. Following that loss, the Phoenix has reeled off 16 consecutive victories on its home floor, 10 of which have come against league foes. PHX STREAKING Green Bay s 14-game winning streak is the longest in program history since the 2012-13 team won 24 games in a row before falling to LSU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Phoenix has had a win streak of at least eight games every season since the 1999-2000 campaign. The program record for consecutive regular-season wins is 45, set between Jan. 15, 2009 and Feb. 4, 2012. RISING RECOGNITION Constructing a 14-game winning streak and boasting a 17-2 overall record, the Green Bay women s basketball team entered the USA Today Coaches Poll Top-25 on Tuesday for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The Phoenix received its highest number of votes this season to be ranked No. 22. Green Bay has tallied wins this season over Wisconsin, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. Not listed in those wins are three impressive victories over Dayton, South Dakota State and Tulane, all of which were postseason participants from a season ago. In the latest RPI rankings, the Phoenix is No. 13 and has been in or around the top 10 all season in that category. The national exposure and acclaim has been a reoccurring theme for the Green Bay women s basketball program, which has now been ranked at some point during the season in five out of the last six years. Green Bay is also the only mid-major inside the poll s top 25. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS Green Bay once again sports a defense that gives even the best offenses in the NCAA a hard time. Most recently, the Phoenix was paired up with Wright State, the highest-scoring offense in the league with an average of 78.2 PPG. Green Bay held the Raiders to just 58 points in the contest and notched its 14thconsecutive victory. In addition, the Phoenix held UIC to just 22 points in its last home contest to set a new Kress Center record for fewest points allowed in a game. Green Bay ranks 17th in the NCAA and first in the Horizon League in scoring defense with an average of 53.7. INSIDE THE SERIES Green Bay has only lost one bout with Horizon League foe, Oakland. Owning an overall record of 5-1 when taking the floor against the Golden Grizzlies. The Phoenix split victories with Oakland last season, falling to the Golden Grizzlies, 70-67, at the Kress Center on Feb. 4 in what would be Green Bay s lone conference and home loss. The Phoenix did go on the defeat Oakland 70-55 at the O rena later that season (Feb. 26). PHOENIX LINEUP PROJECTED STARTERS (2015-16 STATS) No. Name Pos. Ht. Yr. After scoring 18 points against Wright State, Lukan brought her career total to 930, needing 70 to reach the milestone. BUCK-ING UP Tesha Buck has been dominant from beyond the arc for the Phoenix this season, turning in a team-best three-point percentage of 46.0 (40-87). Buck has been one of the most consistent three-point shooters in the nation this season, ranking fourth in the NCAA in terms of three-point percentage. Buck moved into a tie for fifth place on Green Bay s all-time three-pointers made list last weekend against Wright State. The junior now has 160 in her Phoenix career and needs six more to take over fourth place with 166. ROAD WARRIORS Green Bay is a perfect 8-0 on the road this season. Most recently, the Phoenix took to Northern Kentucky (W, 81-73) and Wright State (W, 63-58) to defend its unbeaten status, emerging with single-digit victories in each contest. Green Bay s three road non-conference wins came at Drake (86-61), at Butler (55-46) and at Wisconsin (72-58). The Phoenix has won at least 10 games on the road every season since 2003-2004 and has finished better than.500 every season since 2000-2001 when it went 7-7 on the away from home. DECEMBER TO REMEMBER December was kind to the Phoenix, as Green Bay owned a perfect record of 7-0 in the final month of 2015. Green Bay enjoyed four come-from-behind victories in that span, as well as a victory over in-state rival Wisconsin. The Phoenix defeated its opponents by an average of 11.8 points in December, with three of the seven victories coming by single digits. In addition, opponents have only managed to crack the 60-point barrier on two separate occasions, as Drake scored 61 points and Belmont scored 62. Green Bay scored 60 points or more in five of its seven December games. PRESEASON ATTENTION For the eighth consecutive season, the Green Bay women s basketball team will enter the season as the Horizon League preseason favorite, as announced by the league office during its media day event on Wednesday. Receiving individual recognition for the Phoenix was junior Tesha Buck (First-Team All-Horizon League), junior Mehryn Kraker (First-Team All-Horizon League) and senior newcomer Ashley Luke (Second- Team All-Horizon League). Green Bay, who averaged 69.2 ppg last season, welcomes back 10 total players back from what was the youngest team in the Horizon League. The Phoenix ranked 23rd nationally in scoring defense at 56.1 ppg in 2014-15, before securing its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Phoenix (17-2, 7-0) offense was slow to start, but got things rolling in the second quarter of play and never looked back, working towards a 63-58 victory. Green Bay allowed nine of Wright State s (15-5, 5-2) 15 points to come off of turnovers in the opening quarter of play. However, after talking things over at the break, the Phoenix cleaned up its offensive effort and outscored Wright State 18-10 in the second quarter to lead the Raiders 30-25 at the half. Tesha Buck hit a three-pointer to close the second quarter, her third of the night and the 160th of her career, which ranks tied for fifth place on Green Bay s all-time three-point field goals made list with Sara Boyer (2000-03). Green Bay seemed to be in control after the break and held a 48-40 lead heading into the final quarter, when Wright State began to chip away at the Phoenix advantage. The Raiders opened the quarter with a 10-4 run and pulled within two of the Phoenix (52-50). Senior Kaili Lukan then hit a jumper with 4:27 remaining to stop the Raiders run and compose the Phoenix. With 25 seconds remaining and time continuing to dwindle away, Green Bay had possession and held a 59-58 lead. Wright State was forced to send Lukan to the line for a pair of free throws in hopes of a comeback. Lukan made both attempts at the line and increased the Phoenix s lead to three points (61-58). Demmings took a three-pointer in hopes of matching the Phoenix at 61, but her attempt fell off the front of the rim and Allie LeClaire pulled down the rebound for the Phoenix. LeClaire was then fouled by Wright State and made both free throws to seal the 63-58 victory. Green Bay has now won 14-straight games and continues to be undefeated on the road, at home and in league play this season.
